Top Fantasy Pitchers
There's a few Reds' pitchers on the FantasySP ADP list so far.
Leading the way is Hunter Greene, who is going at pick 83.28 on average.
Reliever Alexis Diaz is next up at pick 123.11. Nick Lodolo, Nick Martinez and Brady Singer are all options in the final few rounds.
Greene is the team's workhorse, and is coming off his best season in his three-year MLB career. In 26 starts, Greene went 9-5 with a 2.75 earned run average. He struck out 169 batters over 150 1/3 innings.
That was the most amount of starts he's gotten in a season so far, so there's some durability concerns with him. He really would be going much earlier in drafts if he didn't have those concerns.
I have no issue taking Greene around his ADP. I think his fantasy floor is pretty safe and solid, while his ceiling is much higher than that ADP.
Diaz is coming off his worst season in his three-year MLB career, but looks to be in line to be the team's closer again in 2025.
In 60 games last season, Diaz went 2-5 with a 3.99 ERA. He earned 28 saves and struck out 55 batters over 56 1/3 innings.
Diaz is a big bounceback candidate for 2025, and his current ADP makes him a great value pick. If he puts up numbers similar to last season, it really shouldn't hurt your fantasy team all that much. If he bounces back, then he'll be a pretty big draft steal.
I like him best as a No. 2 fantasy closer on my team, but following a really good fantasy closer (not a high-upside, comeback guy).
Lodolo had an OK fantasy showing in 2024.
In 21 starts, he went 9-6, but with a 4.76 ERA. Lodolo struck out 122 batters over 115 1/3 innings.
He's had much better strikeout numbers in the past, so that, mixed with more starts and innings, could make Lodolo a pretty good fantasy option in 2025. If he doesn't lower his ERA though, he'll be a better deep-league option.
I'm fine taking a chance on Lodolo late in a standard league draft. He might not be a keeper all season, but he also isn't a huge risk with one of your last picks.
Martinez was really good for the Reds in 2024 across his 16 starts and 42 appearances. He's projected to land a rotation spot for 2025.
Martinez went 10-7 with a 3.10 ERA last season. He struck out 116 batters across 142 1/3 innings.
Looking at those numbers, Martinez is worth taking a chance on with one of your final standard league picks. There's not a ton of risk involved with taking him, but I think he's a better option in deeper leagues.
Singer was traded from the Royals to the Reds this offseason.
He had a bounceback season in 2024, going 9-13 but with a 3.71 ERA across 32 starts. Singer struck out 170 batters over 179 2/3 innings.
Singer should slot near the top of the Reds' rotation in 2025, and I think he'll be a pretty solid option all season. He might not be rostered in all leagues, but he's at least an above-average streaming option in standard leagues for each start.
Other Starting Options
According to FanGraphs, Andrew Abbott is the team's fifth projected starting pitcher, slotting into the No. 3 slot.
Abbott is a bit underrated in my eyes. In 25 starts last season, he had a 10-10 record and 3.72 ERA. Abbott struck out 114 batters over 138 innings.
I think he's another fantasy option late in standard league drafts. He'll likely be a streaming option, but could turn into a full-time keeper if he can bump his strikeout numbers back up to the ones he posted in his rookie season in 2023.
Julian Aguiar is another starting pitcher the Reds have, but he's likely going to miss all of 2025. Brandon Williamson is in the same boat, so the Reds' starting pitching depth is already a bit weak coming into the season.
Taylor Rogers and Emilio Pagan are the projected setup men for Diaz. Sam Moll, Tony Santillan, Brent Suter and Scott Barlow are other bullpen arms, while Graham Ashcraft is the projected long reliever and could crack the rotation if another starter goes down with an injury.
I don't see many of those pitchers being big fantasy assets unless there's an injury to Diaz or a starting pitcher.
Top Prospects
Chase Burns is the Reds' top prospect on MLB.com, coming in No. 26 overall. Despite just being drafted last summer, he's projected to make his MLB debut in 2025.
Burns has not pitched in the minor leagues yet, but after a great career at Tennessee and Wake Forest, the 22-year-old could quickly work his way to the big leagues. Keep him in mind after the trade deadline or for September call ups.
Rhett Lowder is ranked 35th on the top-100 list. He was a first-round pick in 2023 and already made his MLB debut.
In six starts, Lowder went 2-2 with a 1.17 ERA. He struck out 22 batters over 30 2/3 innings and had a .219 average against him. He'll push for a rotation spot this spring training, and likely be the first call up if a starter gets injured.
Connor Phillips, Luis Mey, Chase Petty and Zach Maxwell are some other members of the team's top-30 prospects from the end of last season who could maybe factor into things in 2025. Aguiar is also a top-30 prospect.
Phillips started five MLB games in 2024, going 1-1, but with a 6.97 ERA. He struck out 26 batters over 20 2/3 innings. He has a 4.87 ERA in the minor leagues across 369 1/3 innings, along with 492 strikeouts, 229 walks and a .244 average against him.
Mey had a 5.57 ERA in the minor leagues, but had a 3.44 mark in 2024. Across 163 1/3 innings, Mey has a .270 average against him, 177 strikeouts and 128 walks.
Petty has a 3.44 ERA across 308 1/3 minor league innings. He has a .241 average against him, along with 298 strikeouts and 106 walks.
Maxwell has a 3.74 ERA across 122 2/3 minor league innings so far. He also has 191 strikeouts, 84 walks and just a .208 average against him.
Lyon Richardson, Jose Acuna and Lenny Torres Jr. are three more pitchers age 25 or below who are in big league camp with the Reds.
