Top Fantasy Football Stories for Week 4: Tyler Huntley, Andy Dalton, Justin Herbert and More
These are the top storylines to watch during the Week 4 games.
Injured Quarterbacks Returning
As of Sunday morning, it sounds like both Jordan Love and Justin Herbert will be suiting up and starting in Week 4.
Love returns to the Green Bay Packers for the first time since going down with a knee injury late in their Week 1 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. The Packers have somehow won every game that Love missed and lost his only start. This week, he returns in what looks to be a brutal matchup against the Minnesota Vikings. If the Pack loses today, could a quarterback controversy between Love and the undefeated Malik Willis be brewing in Green Bay?
Of course not, that's ridiculous. However, it will be interesting to see how good this team can be with their starting quarterback and exactly how healthy he is. We have to remember that Love is returning ahead of schedule and a lack of mobility against that Vikings' defense could greatly hinder him or even lead to re-injury. Vikings at Packers could be a game-of-the-week candidate.
Herbert, in an effort that feels more dumb than valiant, will attempt to play through a high-ankle sprain for a second week in a row. How did it go last week you ask? About exactly how you'd expect it to go. He was immobile in the pocket and massively ineffective, which led to his team losing and him being forced from the game after re-injuring himself.
Things went so well last week that he's planning to do the exact same thing this week. The good news for Herbert is that this week he'll only have Chris Jones chasing him down and not T.J. Watt. We all know that the Chargers aren't winning this game but it will be interesting to see if Herbert survives this one.
Can Andy Dalton Keep it Going in Carolina?
Through the first two weeks of the season, the Carolina Panthers offense couldn't get going at all with former first-overall pick Bryce Young under center. Then, the Panther turned to The Red Rifle Andy Dalton for Week 3. Not only were they better, the offense was dominant and he had statistically the best game that any quarterback has had all season. Chuba Hubbard and Diontae Johnson finally exploded as the Panthers embarrassed the Las Vegas Raiders in a route.
This week we will be watching to see if Dalton is for real or if it was just a one-week fluke. Obviously, we don't expect a repeat of last week every week. That's just not realistic. However, if he can be a competent starter and the Panthers' offense can run how it's supposed to, then it can mean big things for fantasy owners.
All of a sudden, Johnson and Hubbard could have real value, and the soon-to-be-returning Jonathon Brooks will become a hot commodity around leagues.
Tyler Huntley Takes Over on Monday Night Football
Last week was an unmitigated disaster for the Miami Dolphins offense. They, for some reason, thought it was okay to go into the season with Skylar Thompson as the primary backup to Tua Tagovailoa. When Tua went down with another concussion, Thompson was thrust into the starting lineup. Needless to say, it didn't go great.
Mercifully, he was destroyed in the pocket and forced from the game with a rib injury. Once they spatulad his body off the field, things only got slightly better with Tim Boyle. Boyle entered the game with four career TDs and 12 interceptions. Another gem found by the Miami front office.
The Dolphins made the only choice they could make this week and will turn to former Pro Bowler Snoop Huntley. He's not great and may not even be good, but he is far more competent than the slack-jawed mouth breathers they sacrificed on the field last week. Huntley does give some hope to both the Miami faithful and fantasy owners of Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, who have all but lost hope by Sunday night last week. We will be watching closely to see how this offense looks with Huntley under center and try to determine how much value out Dolphins have while Tua is sidelined.
Lamar Jackson vs. Josh Allen
We have a mammoth matchup on Sunday Night Football this week. The reigning MVP will attempt to figure out this Buffalo Bills' defense. The Bills' defense has far exceeded expectations after losing a ton of pieces to both free agency in the offseason and injury early in the season. Buffalo has looked awesome the past few weeks and now we get to see how they look against what should be a really good team, even if the Baltimore Ravens are currently sitting at just 1-2.
The Bills will be tested on the other side of the ball as well. Josh Allen has run through bad defense this season, destroying the Cardinals, Dolphins and Jaguars. Baltimore has a significantly better defense and we will get to see if Allen can continue to succeed with subpar weapons when he's playing a decent defense. If he can win this game and put up points like he has been so far this season, Josh Allen could come out of this game as the MVP frontrunner.
