Francisco Alvarez | Fantasy Outlook

Francisco Alvarez returns early from knee surgery, flashing strong contact ahead of tough Phillies matchups.

Alvarez made a remarkably quick return from right meniscus surgery on June 9, well ahead of his initial timeline. Over his last 14 days, he is hitting .320 with a home run. While the fifth-place Mets (33-41) are managing his workload by occasionally utilizing him as a designated hitter, his bat remains essential.

Alvarez's improved contact rate is highly encouraging, raising his season average to .255 compared to his .223 career mark. Our projections slate him for 10 homers and 57 RBIs over 385 at-bats this year. If his knee holds up, his current .320 hot streak suggests he could easily exceed these modest power projections.

For the rest of the week, the Mets play three road games in Philadelphia. Today's matchup against Aaron Nola (6.06 ERA) is highly favorable, though he must then face Cristopher Sanchez (1.82 ERA) and Zack Wheeler (2.01 ERA) over the weekend. Despite the tough weekend slate, his offensive upside makes him a solid play. Verdict: Start.
