Jose Altuve Battles Post-IL Rust, but Favorable Matchups Loom

Altuve recently returned from a Grade 2 oblique strain but has struggled to find his timing, batting just .111 with 10 strikeouts over his last six games. Now back in his everyday role at second base, he will try to spark the fourth-place Astros, who currently sit at 31-39 in the standings.

Do not panic over this small-sample slump, as his plate discipline remains excellent with 21 walks in 48 games. Our models project a strong rest-of-season rebound toward a .274 batting average, 14 home runs, and 10 stolen bases, which aligns closely with his career baseline.

The Astros travel to Kansas City for three remaining games this week. Altuve will face Luinder Avila and his high 1.60 WHIP on Friday, followed by Noah Cameron, presenting a golden opportunity to break out of his post-injury funk. Verdict: Start.
