Week 6 Fantasy Basketball Waiver Wire Pickups: Mason Plumlee Is Getting Big!
This week, the top ballers to scoop from waivers are PF Larry Nance Jr. of the New Orleans Pelicans and C Mason Plumlee of the Charlotte Hornets. Both players are playing efficient big-man basketball for their respective teams.
Elsewhere, SG Terence Davus of the Sacramento Kings scored 31 points (12-16 FG) in just 26 minutes on the floor to help the Kings beat Kevin Durant and the Brooklyn Nets at home.
Let’s take a look at the best free agent fantasy basketball players as we head into mid-November of the 2022-23 NBA season.
Guards
PG Immanuel Quickley, New York Knicks (35.92% Owned)
Immanuel Quickley of the Knicks is performing solidly this season. He’s seeing 21.7 minutes off of the bench for 9.1 PPG, 4.8 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 1.4 steals per game. While he isn’t anything special, Quickley has a unique ability to erupt for some big scoring games. For example, on Sunday, Quickley had 24 points (8-17 FG) in 23 minutes against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
SG Terence Davis, Sacramento Kings (6.80% Owned)
Terence Davis exploded for a huge game as the Kings set the high-scoring mark of the season with 153 total points in a solid victory over the Nets on Tuesday night. In 26 minutes on the floor, Davis had 31 points, converting on an impressive 12-of-16 shots taken from the field and 7-of-10 shooting from downtown.

PF Larry Nance Jr., New Orleans Pelicans (56.46% Owned)
Especially in games where Zion Williamson is out, PF Larry Nance Jr. tends to emerge as a force to be reckoned with at forward. Over the last two games, he’s recorded at least 19 points and shot a minimum of 80% from the field. He’s produced 16 rebounds and two blocks over the last two games. Any time Zion is out, Nance is a must-start. His last two games demonstrate his value to fantasy owners and the Pelicans anytime Williamson is out.
PF Marvin Bagley III, Detroit Pistons (45.39% Owned)
Marvin Bagley III has only played in two games so far this season. On Monday, he logged 29 minutes and tallied 16 points (6-11 FG), five rebounds and one steal. For the Pistons, if Bagley III sees approximately 30 minutes per game this season, these are the kind of numbers he can produce. At the moment, he is available as a free agent forward in approximately 55% of leagues.
Centers
C Mason Plumlee, Charlotte Hornets (54.29% Owned)
Mason Plumlee has elevated his game in November as opposed to October. In fact, Plumlee has recorded three double-doubles in the Hornets' last four games. He topped it off on Monday night with 18 points (8-9 FG), 10 boards, two assists, three steals, and one block. Plumlee is performing more efficiently this season, at least from a fantasy perspective, than he did for the Hornets in 2021-22. He is available as a free agent big to scoop from waivers in approximately 45% of fantasy basketball leagues right now. Add him now before rookie Nick Richards starts to see more playing time and surpasses Plumlee on the depth chart.
C Onyeka Okongwu, Atlanta Hawks (31.43% Owned)
The Hawks’ 22-year old center has been off to a solid start this season despite backing up C Clint Capella. Okongwu is averaging 8.2 PPG (66.7 FG%) and 5.6 REBs in less than 20 minutes per game this season. Okongwu has a massive wingspan which allows him to be effective off of the glass on offense and on defense. He’s certainly making the most of his minutes on the court each game for the Hawks this season. He is available in approximately 70% of fantasy basketball leagues at the moment and the market for centers is very shallow. Not to mention, he should see an uptick in production in the blocks category. Last season, he averaged 1.3 blocked shots per game. This year, he's only swatting 0.8 shots per game. Expect that number to increase in the weeks to come.
