Fantasy Football Impact: Jets Acquire Running Back James Robinson
After losing rookie running back Breece Hall, the New York Jets have acquired James Robinson from the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Jets stud rookie running back Breece Hall went down on Sunday and was diagnosed with a torn ACL, forcing him to miss the remainder of the season. The 5-2 Jets moved quickly to acquire a replacement in James Robinson. New York will send a late-round pick to Jacksonville for J-Rob.
Robinson who has been a fantasy league winner in the past has struggled mightily as of late after a fast start to the 2022 season. He is coming off a torn Achilles, a death sentence for running back’s careers. Robinson looked like he was going to buck that trend early on, unfortunately, he has since fallen off a cliff. Any fantasy owner who started him this week feels this pain as they look at a zero in their lineup.
The Jets backfield will now be led by the duo of Robinson and Michael Carter. While Travis Etienne has a stranglehold on the Jags RB1 job with JaMycal Hasty sliding in as his handcuff.

Fantasy Football Impact of James Robinson Trade
This is an obvious upgrade for Robinson, however, that’s not saying a ton. He’s coming off a game when he played 12 snaps and had no touches. Despite the upgrade in the situation, Robinson is still unlikely to have a significant fantasy impact. The Jets’ offensive line is in shambles, the quarterback doesn’t take any focus off the rushing attack and Robinson looks like he’s running on fumes.
If anything, Robinson muddies the Jets’ backfield which looked to be Michael Carter’s all to himself. No one should be more upset than a Carter owner who held on to him all this time and thought he was getting his shot. He’s a decent runner with high PPR upside. As long as both of these guys are healthy neither can be considered more than a desperation flex option.
In Jacksonville, they are telling us what we already figured out. Etienne is the man in that backfield and he’s going to eat. Coming off a career-best game in Week 7, in which he saw 19 targets and rushed for 114 yards and a touchdown, fantasy owners can now plug him into their lineup with full confidence.
Hasty is now the clear-cut handcuff in Jacksonville. Nonetheless, it’s unlikely he has any standalone value as long as Etienne is healthy. It would be a surprise to see him receive more than five or so touches per game moving forward.
