Fantasy Football Red Zone Report
Kansas City Just Keeps Chugging Along
Andy Reid has a way of continuing to find young, fast, and effective receivers. Everyone said losing Tyreek Hill could be the beginning of the end for the Chiefs … all they did was go out and win another Super Bowl, with contributions from names like Isiah Pacheco, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Jerrick McKinnon.
He’s done it again this year with Rashee Rice. Rice actually leads all KC WRs in overall targets with 24 and red zone targets with seven. That has led him to score two touchdowns, and he has been very close to at least two more, being tackled at the one. He also leads in receptions with 17. This is all in a part-time role, so the rookie could be even more productive if his snap share increases. Of course, Travis Kelce has been targeted more with 37, has more red zone targets with nine, and more catches with 27. Rice and Kelce are the only KC receivers with more than one TD reception.
Underrated 1-2 WR Combo
Everyone talks about Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle … with good reason, but there is a 1-2 combo in Las Vegas (not Seigfried and Roy) that people should be talking about as well. I’m speaking of Davante Adams and Jakobi Meyers. Adams has the most red zone targets of all WRs, while Meyers, despite missing a game, is second on the Raiders with six. Adams has caught 75% of his red zone targets, and he and Meyers each have three TDs on the season.
New Guard In Baltimore
TE Mark Andrews has been the “red zone guy” in Baltimore for years. He is a big, sure-handed target inside the 20-yard line. Like many TEs, it’s where he earns his paycheck.
So far this year, that distinction goes to rookie WR Zay Flowers. Andrews has been targeted five times in the red zone, with four catches, but Flowers leads the team with six targets and five catches, and has a slightly higher catch percentage than Andrews, 73% to 71%.
Green Bay Anomaly
Romeo Doubs has been targeted 37 times this season, which leads the team. Jayden Reed is second with 27 targets. Doubs also has a better catch percentage, 57% to 48%, yet Reed has been targeted more in the red zone. Jordan Love has targeted him nine times inside the 20-yard line, while Doubs has only been targeted seven times. Doubs does have more receiving yards and has three TDs to Reed’s two.
Philadelphia Anomaly
A similar anomaly is happening in Philadelphia with RBs D’Andre Swift and Kenneth Gainwell. On Sunday, Swift was on the field for 49 snaps, while Gainwell was only on the field for 30 snaps. The disparity in touches was even greater, with Swift touching the ball 23 times to only eight for Gainwell. Yet five of those eight touches were in the red zone. Swift only had one touch all game in the red zone. For the season, although Swift has nearly double the amount of total touches, they each have gotten 13 red zone touches.
