Fantasy Football Quarterback Start/Sit Week 7: Should You Start Jordan Love, Brock Purdy, or Matthew Stafford?
While things are getting a little more normal at quarterback, we're still left trying to make heads and tails of the first six weeks. Jordan Love is still a top-10 quarterback on a points per game basis. Joe Burrow is closer to Zach Wilson on a points per game basis than he is to Patrick Mahomes. And Brock Purdy has been a better fantasy quarterback than Trevor Lawrence, Dak Prescott, and Justin Fields. Exactly how we all drew it up!
All that to say, we've got our work cut out for us as we try to figure out what to do with our start/sit decisions moving forward.
You're obviously not benching any of those guys (more on that below), but there are plenty of other borderline fantasy starters we need to sift through.
I'm going to use the list below to cover every quarterback start/sit situation for Week 7. The list is broken into tiers (which as pretty self-explanatory based on the names of them), and you can simply look at the list and make start/sit decisions -- because it's in order of preference! Think of it as my weekly quarterback rankings.

No-Brainer Start 'Em
You drafted these guys as your starter. There's no reason to waffle on them based on matchups or anything like that. We don't even need to talk things through on any of these guys -- let's stop over-thinking things. Here's the order in which I'd start them this week:
-
Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs
- Mahomes is always an auto-start. Even moreso against a bad Chargers defense.
-
Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles
- Hurts looked bad last week, but he'll have a chance to put up some fantasy points as the Eagles try to keep up with the high-flying Dolphins.
-
Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills
- There's something off with the Bills, but Allen remains a must-start either way.
-
Justin Herbert, Los Angeles Chargers
- Herbert is one of the handful of must-starts this week and should be throwing a lot as the Chargers attempt to keep pace with the Chiefs.
-
Tua Tagovailoa, Miami Dolphins
- Tua has been a Golden God this season and has played his way into being a weekly auto-start.
-
Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens
- Lamar hasn't looked great, but he's still putting up almost 20 fantasy points per game this season. Get him in there against the Lions.
Still Start 'Em
These guys are a little more of a borderline decision, but they're worth starting this week. Here's the order in which I'd start them this week:
-
Jordan Love, Green Bay Packers
- It's wild to say that Love is a top-10 quarterback, but with six teams on byes this week..here we are! He's been a little hit or miss this season, but a matchup against the Broncos puts him close to must-start territory.
-
Jared Goff, Detroit Lions
- Goff is averaging almost 20 fantasy points per game and gets a nice matchup against a Ravens defense that isn't great against the pass.
-
Matthew Stafford, Los Angeles Rams
- Stafford started the season as a mediocre option (and stil mostly is), but he's a little more valuable now with Cooper Kupp back. I don't love the matchup, but Pittsburgh's defense isn't as scary as you might think.
-
Brock Purdy, San Francisco 49ers
- Purdy came back down to Earth last week and will likely be without at least a top weapon or two. But he's still a top play due to the lack of other options combined with a nice matchup against the Vikings.
-
Sam Howell, Washington Commanders
- The Commanders have scored more than 20 points in five of their six games this year, and Howell has been surprisingly good as a fantasy option outside of a Week 3 stinker. I actually really like him this week.
-
Russell Wilson, Denver Broncos
- Wilson has been really good fantasy-wise this season as he's averaging over 17 fantasy points per game.
-
Trevor Lawrence, Jacksonville Jaguars
- Lawrence is an injury risk coming into Thursday night (and he has a tough matchup), but I think he's still worth starting this week.
-
Geno Smith, Seattle Seahawks
- Geno threw for 300 yards last week, but he offset the good with interceptions. I don't mind him against the Cardinals, but I'm not as high on him as others are this week.
Deep League Starts
These guys are basically "sits" in a 12-team league. But they're likely someone you should start in a superflex league or a 16-team league. Here's the order in which I'd start them this week:
-
Kirk Cousins, Minnesota Vikings
- Cousins has an awful matchup against the 49ers and is missing Justin Jefferson. I'd avoid if you can.
-
Baker Mayfield, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
- Baker's magic ran out last week, but he's still a top 15-20 quarterback play aginst the Falcons this week.
-
Desmond Ridder, Atlanta Falcons
- Ridder has been surprisingly good fantasy-wise as of late. That hasn't exactly translated to real-life play, but he's a decent start this week against the Buccaneers.
-
Joshua Dobbs, Arizona Cardinals
- Dobbs has been surprisingly good as a fantasy option this season. While I don't love the matchup in Seattle, I'm not against starting Dobbs if you have to.
-
Derek Carr, New Orleans Saints
- I'd normally sit Carr on a short week against a decent Jaguars defense, but I think he's viable considering the lack of good options.
Sit 'Em
These guys are "sits" in pretty much any league except a superflex. Here's the order in which I'd start them this week if you absolutely have to:
-
Kenny Pickett, Pittsburgh Steelers
- Pickett hasn't been very good this season and is averaging just over 10 fantasy points per game. I'm not sure the Rams will be the elixir that cures what ails him. Avoid him in most leagues.
-
Deshaun Watson/P.J. Walker, Cleveland Browns
- It looks like Watson will again miss this week's game against the Colts. Walker is a viable fantasy option in deeper leagues, but nothing more.
-
Gardner Minshew, Indianapolis Colts
- Minshew is really nothing more than a game manager and he has a tough matchup against the Browns. Sit him unless you're desperate.
-
Daniel Jones/Tyrod Taylor, New York Giants
- It looks like Jones is going to play this week, but neck injuries are a tricky beast so I wouldn't rule out Taylor either. Regardless, I'm not sure either of them are a great option with the Giants averaging just 196 passing yards per game.
-
Jimmy Garoppolo/Brian Hoyer/Aidan O'Connell, Las Vegas Raiders
- Who's starting? I don't know. But whoever it is...they're nothing more than a Hail Mary bye week fill-in.
-
Tyson Bagent, Chicago Bears
- I don't know what to expect from Bagent in his first NFL start, but I'd stay away from him unless you absolutely need a quarterback.
-
Mac Jones, New England Patriots
- After a strong strong (fantasy-wise) to the season, Jones has bottomed-out. There's no reason to start him against a tough Bills defense.
