There are lies, damned lies, and statistics. And they say a good lawyer can argue either side of an argument. Well, I’m not a lawyer, nor am I trying to prosecute anything … however, there are often times when numbers can be so glaring that they are eye-popping. Let's take a look at some of those standout numbers for fantasy football following Week 7.

Wide Receiver Target Leaders

This week, there were 10 WRs who were targeted at least 10 times. The teams they play for went 2-8. Aside from targets, completion percentage is so important … being targeted 12 times is wonderful, but if it only translates into six catches for 58 yards (Stefon Diggs’ stats this week), your team is likely to lose.

  1. Amon-Ra St. Brown, Detroit Lions: The Lions were thoroughly dominated in their loss to the Ravens. Often, a big deficit creates a ton of passing opportunities which can drive up passing stats and help fantasy results, but not contribute to a win. St. Brown was targeted 19 times with 13 catches for 102 yards. although none of his receptions finished in the end zone.
  2. A.J. Brown, Philadelphia Eagles: Brown was targeted a whopping 15 times, but it was within the flow of the game. He caught 10 passes for 137 yards and a touchdown. His Eagles did prevail, accounting for one of the two victories in this list.
  3. Chris Olave, New Orleans Saints: Olave was also targeted 15 times but only caught seven passes for only 57 yards. Alvin Kamara was actually targeted 14 times out of the backfield for a much more efficient 12 catches and 91 yards.
  4. Tyreek Hill, Miami Dolphins: For Hill, it isn’t so much how often he is targeted because he’s always at or near the top of this list each week. The stat to look at is how many yards did he get. He’s fourth among WRs in targets with 74 and leads them all with 902 receiving yards. On Sunday, he only gained 88 yards … and the Dolphins lost.
  5. Jakobi Meyers, Las Vegas Raiders: Meyers and Davante Adams have been an interesting tandem this year. Adams is the WR1 on the team, yet Meyers tends to outperform him. Regardless of who gets the lion's share of touches and targets, the Raiders just lose. On Sunday, Meyers had 13 targets, with only seven catches and 50 yards. He was on the field for 61 snaps to only 49 for Adams.
  6. Davante Adams, Las Vegas Raiders: In Adams' 49 snaps, he was targeted 12 times, also with only seven catches. And his yardage wasn’t much better than Meyers, only gaining 57 yards. Their top two targets only catching 56% of their targets for a combined 107 yards is not enough production for the Raiders to expect to win.
  7. Chris Godwin, Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Godwin was targeted 12 times but only caught six passes for 66 yards. It was a very pedestrian game for him in a very pedestrian loss for the Buccaneers.
  8. Puka Nacua, Los Angeles Rams: In a reversal, Nacua was the most targeted WR on the Rams with 12. He caughts eight passes for 154 yards. Cooper Kupp led LA's WRs with 68 snaps, but was only targeted seven times with two catches.
  9. Stefon Diggs, Buffalo Bills: As I wrote above, Diggs only had six catches on his 12 targets for 58 yards. he did make an incredible catch and evasive run to find the end zone once, but it wasn’t enough for the Bills to prevail.
  10. Jordan Addison, Minnesota Vikings: With Justin Jefferson on the shelf, his targets have to go somewhere. It’s obvious Addison is fast becoming QB Kirk Cousins' top option. In the last three weeks he’s been targeted 24 times. On Monday he caught seven passes on 10 targets, with 123 yards and two TDs. He was one of the main reasons the Vikings prevailed in their win over the 49ers.

Running Back Touch Leaders

There were six RBs who had 20 or more combined rushing and receiving touches in Week 7. All six of them had over 100 total yards.

  1. Alvin Kamara, New Orleans Saints: Kamara had a whopping 29 touches with 17 rushes and 12 receptions. He had 153 combined yards. The team is an enigma. Between him, Olave, and Michael Thomas they should be far more productive. Kamara is the only RB in the league to have over 20 touches each of the last four weeks.
  2. Kenneth Walker, Seattle Seahawks: The majority of Walker's 28 touches were on the ground, as he had 26 rushes for 105 yards. He’s sort of a throwback. For the year, he is sixth in touches, fifth in rushing attempts, and eighth in rushing yards. He’s strong and he’s durable, even if he doesn't get much receiving work.
  3. Tyler Allgeier, Atlanta Falcons: With Bijan Robinson on the shelf, it was the perfect opportunity for Allgeier to take the lead role for the Falcons. He still only played on 33 snaps, but he had 24 touches, with 21 rushes for 59 yards and three catches for 53 yards. Picking up the rest of the slack for Robinson fell to Cordarrelle Patterson. He was out for nearly as many snaps with 26, and had 10 rushes for 56 yards.
  4. Saquon Barkley, New York Giants: Barkley had 24 touches on 57 snaps, 118 total yards and a receiving TD. It is clear that when healthy and available, he will always get the lion's share of snaps and touches on the team and be near the top in the league.
  5. Jonathan Taylor, Indianapolis Colts: In the last three weeks the transition from Zack Moss to Jonathan Taylor is becoming complete. Three weeks ago Moss led Taylor 25 to seven touches. Last week they were tied with 13. And this week Taylor had the edge, 21 to 19. They each rushed the ball 18 times on Sunday, but Taylor had more yards, 75 to 57, and he added a TD.
  6. Jahmyr Gibbs, Detroit Lions: With David Montgomery injured, Gibbs became the de facto top RB for the Lions. He had 20 touches on 65 snaps, which was second among RBs, with only Kamara having one more at 66. He had 11 rushes for 68 yards and a solid 6.2 yards per rush. The rookie added nine catches for 58 yards on 10 targets.

Tight End Target Leaders

Travis Kelce isn’t the only TE making waves in the league. Although he may get the most headlines, and has the most focus as the best TE in the league, there are two others who are putting up nearly identical numbers.

Along with Kelce, T.J. Hockenson and Evan Engram are the only other two TEs who have a catch percentage of 80% or more with over 50 targets and 40 catches.

  1. Travis Kelce, Kansas City Chiefs: 59 targets, 48 catches, 81% catch percentage, 525 yards
  2. TJ Hockenson, Minnesota Vikings: 59 targets, 47 catches, 80% catch percentage, 390 yards
  3. Evan Engram, Jacksonville Jaguars: 51 targets, 41 catches, 80% catch percentage, 346 yards

Other than the difference in yards per catch, these three are so similar. It’s not by accident that often times, as they go, so go their teams. All three had big games this week, and all three of their teams had convincing wins.
