Fantasy Football Quarterback Start/Sit Week 10: Should You Start Sam Howell, Joshua Dobbs, or Will Levis?
Welcome to Week 10. C.J. Stroud is a top-3 fantasy quarterback on a points per game basis. Joe Burrow is closer to Mac Jones on a points per game basis than he is to Patrick Mahomes. And Sam Howell has been a better fantasy quarterback than Trevor Lawrence, Dak Prescott, and Deshaun Watson on a points per game basis. Exactly how we all drew it up!
All that to say, we've got our work cut out for us as we try to figure out what to do with our start/sit decisions moving forward.
You're obviously not benching any of those guys (more on that below), but there are plenty of other borderline fantasy starters we need to sift through.
I'm going to use the list below to cover every quarterback start/sit situation for Week 10. The list is broken into tiers (which as pretty self-explanatory based on the names of them), and you can simply look at the list and make start/sit decisions -- because it's in order of preference! Think of it as my weekly quarterback rankings.

No-Brainer Start 'Em
You drafted these guys as your starter. There's no reason to waffle on them based on matchups or anything like that. We don't even need to talk things through on any of these guys -- let's stop over-thinking things. Here's the order in which I'd start them this week:
-
Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills
- Allen is QB1 on the year and he has an A+ matchup with an awful Broncos defense on tap.
-
Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals
- After a slow start, Burrow has finished as a top-6 quarterback in each of his last two games and has another great matchup this week.
-
Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys
- Prescott has a top-3 quarterback in each of his last three games. Keep rolling with him as long as he's hot.
-
Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens
- I don't love Lamar's matchup this week, but you shouldn't ever think about sitting him.
-
Justin Herbert, Los Angeles Chargers
- Herbert didn't do much last week, but he didn't need to. He should be able to put up fantasy points against the Lions this week and is a must-start.
-
Jared Goff, Detroit Lions
- Goff has a great matchup this week and is coming off a bye. Fire him up!
-
C.J. Stroud, Houston Texans
- Coming off the best game a rookie QB has ever had, I think Stroud has to be a must-start at this point.
Still Start 'Em
These guys are a little more of a borderline decision, but they're worth starting this week. Here's the order in which I'd start them this week:
-
Sam Howell, Washington Commanders
- I don't know what to think of Howell, but he's been producing. I don't love the matchup, but he should be a top-12 QB this week.
-
Brock Purdy, San Francisco 49ers
- I don't trust Purdy, but there just aren't many good QB options at this point and he's positioned to be a QB1 against the Jaguars.
-
Trevor Lawrence, Jacksonville Jaguars
- I don't like the matchup, but the 49ers haven't been quite as scary as of late. Lawrence is a must-start.
-
Derek Carr, New Orleans Saints
- It hasn't always looked pretty, but points are points. Carr has been a top-15 fantasy QB for five straight weeks and should be able to do some damage against the Vikings.
-
Baker Mayfield, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
- Mayfield has been a top-12 QB for three straight weeks and should be able to continue that run against the Titans.
-
Joshua Dobbs, Minnesota Vikings
- Dobbs looked great with zero prep. Let's see what he looks like with a week of prep (although I don't love the matchup).
-
Russell Wilson, Denver Broncos
- I really don't like the matchup and would have him in the lower tier during most weeks, but Wilson should be a top-15 QB considering the options below.
-
Kyler Murray, Arizona Cardinals
- It's a little risky going with Murray in his first game back, but I like the matchup against a scuffling Falcons team.
Deep League Starts
These guys are basically "sits" in a 12-team league. But they're likely someone you should start in a superflex league or a 16-team league. Here's the order in which I'd start them this week:
-
Deshaun Watson, Cleveland Browns
- Watson looked good last week in his return from injury, but he's got a tough matchup this week and I'd shy away from him if you can.
-
Geno Smith, Seattle Seahawks
- Geno has been really disappointing this season and the Commanders defense isn't bad. I'm out on Geno outside of deep leagues until he proves me wrong.
-
Taylor Heinecke, Atlanta Falcons
- Heinicke is a lowupside play, but he has enogh weapons in a nice matchup against the Cardinals to make him a deep league start.
-
Jordan Love, Green Bay Packers
- Love's been fading over the last few weeks, but he's still worth a start in deeper leagues this week.
-
Will Levis, Tennessee Titans
- Levis has looked good at times, but he's likely in the QB17-20 range this week.
-
Gardner Minshew, Indianapolis Colts
- Minshew doesn't have a ton of upside, but he's still worthy of a deep league start against a so-so Patriots defense.
-
Bryce Young, Carolina Panthers
- Young is improving (a little) despite a rough game last week. I don't love him this week, but he has some upside against a bad Bears defense.
Sit 'Em
These guys are "sits" in pretty much any league except a superflex. Here's the order in which I'd start them this week if you absolutely have to:
-
Kenny Pickett, Pittsburgh Steelers
- Pickett hasn't finished higher than QB14 all year and shouldn't be in your lineup outside of really deep leagues.
-
Mac Jones, New England Patriots
- There is no reason for Jones to be in your starting lineup this week. Or any week.
-
Zach Wilson, New York Jets
- Wilson is seemingly regressing -- which is almost impressive because I didn't realize that was possible for him. Don't start him.
-
Tyson Bagent, Chicago Bears
- Could you luckbox your way into a decent score with Bagent? Maybe. But there are better options out there.
-
Aidan O'Connell, Las Vegas Raiders
- The Raiders won last week, but it wasn't because of O'Connell. Keep him on your bench.
-
Tommy DeVito, New York Giants
- DeVito has a little bit of a floor due to his borderline rushing ability, but he has a tough matchup and shouldn't be in any lineups.
