Week 13 Waiver Wire Target: Should You Add Jalin Hyatt After Big Week 12 Outing? Should You Stash Hyatt in Dynasty Leagues?
Discussing New York Giants' Jalin Hyatt as a possible week 13 waiver wire addition and looking at his dynasty league fantasy outlook.
The week 12 fantasy leaders at the wide receiver position included a lot of well-known players, or ones that have pretty consistently produced this season.
One newish name to the list was New York Giants’ Jalin Hyatt. He’s only produced a couple solid fantasy showings this season, but turned in a career-best showing in week 12.
Let’s discuss Hyatt as a potential waiver wire addition before week 13 (really week 14 as the Giants are on a bye week this coming week), with a bit of extra emphasis on his dynasty outlook.

Week 12 Showing/Season Numbers
Hyatt was one of the few bright spots from the Giants’ 10-7 win over the New England Patriots. He caught five of his six targets for 109 yards.
Hyatt played 31 offensive snaps, which was 60% of the team’s total.
The five receptions were a new season high for the third-round rookie. Hyatt broke 100 yards for the first time.
His production has been hit or miss all season. Hyatt had two grabs for 89 yards in week 2. He had two catches for 75 yards in week 7. Before week 12, Hyatt had gone for just eight catches on 15 targets for 57 yards in all his other games combined.
Hyatt’s Fantasy Outlook
It makes sense why a rookie receiver would struggle, especially when he’s on an offense as putrid as the Giants. He’s flashed potential in a few games now and figures to be a long-term piece for New York.
In terms of the rest of the season though, Hyatt has the chance to serve as the team’s top fantasy pass catcher given nobody else has consistently stepped up. Hyatt’s production has been so inconsistent that he’s going to be hard for fantasy owners to trust, especially when it comes to putting him in starting lineups during critical late season and playoff matchups.
Another contributing factor to Hyatt’s inconsistent showings could be that he’s had to play with three different starting quarterbacks over the course of the season. Week 12 was the third start for Tommy DeVito, so maybe there’s a chance that he and Hyatt are clicking and can be a decent fantasy combination as the season winds down.
Unfortunately, the matchups the rest of the season aren’t very favorable for Hyatt and the rest of the Giants’ receivers. They have a grade of C+ on the new FantasySP strength of schedule page.
After the Giants’ week 13 bye, they play the Green Bay Packers in week 14, New Orleans Saints in week 15, Philadelphia Eagles in weeks 16 and 18 and the Los Angeles Rams in week 17. The Eagles are the only really favorable matchup, and you might lose out on one of those matchups if your league championship is in week 17.
How to Approach Hyatt
I think Hyatt has a promising future in the NFL, especially if the Giants can get their quarterback situation figured out. The Giants likely will roll with DeVito the rest of this season, so whatever progress the rookie makes before the end of the season is likely going to be wiped out before next season kicks in.
In terms of whether or not I’d add Hyatt, that decision isn’t likely needed until week 14 because of the team’s bye week. Given how his entire season has looked, I’d try to avoid adding Hyatt in standard redraft formats. In deeper leagues, he’ll be a decent option, but I’d have to think there are some more consistent options available.
In dynasty leagues, especially ones with deeper rosters, Hyatt will be a pretty hot commodity the next couple weeks. If your team isn’t in playoff contention and you have a veteran player that’s fading, maybe you drop them and take a chance on Hyatt.
If you are in playoff contention, but have a roster spot to play with, Hyatt is a decent option. His matchups aren’t great moving forward, but you don’t need to start him the rest of the season if you don’t want to. This move could be one geared toward the future, with Hyatt just being a player you stash until next season.
As mentioned before, I like what Hyatt has shown in his rookie season, his situation is just bad. Some stability at quarterback should allow him to make a pretty considerable jump in production, and I’d have to think he’ll at least be given the opportunity to do so as the roster gets retooled.
While I wouldn't add Hyatt unless your are in a deeper league or dynasty, I do think he offers some upside, although I believe that comes next year instead of the rest of this season.
