Week 17 Waiver Wire Pickups Running Backs and Wide Receivers: Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Zamir White, K.J. Osborn, Demarcus Robinson and More
Championship Week is here and these are the waiver wire pickups who can help you bring home that trophy!
We finished our 16th football Sunday, and now it's time to hit the waiver wire. With Week 16 over, we are now focusing on winning our fantasy football championship. Here, we are going to focus on the best running backs and wide receivers that may be available in your league.
Week 17 Waiver Wire Pickups
Running Backs
Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Kansas City Chiefs
CEH may be the last man standing in the Chiefs' backfield with Isiah Pacheco in the concussion protocol and Jerick McKinnon now on injured reserve. That would leave just about all the backfield touches to CEH. However, if Pacheco does clear the protocol and play then we would not advise you to start CEH. Nevertheless, he is absolutely worth a pickup before waivers clear, and if Pacheco is ultimately ruled out he would be the top waiver wire add of the week.
Chris Rodriguez, Washington Commanders
With Brian Robinson sidelined, it has been Rodriguez and not Antonio Gibson who is the back to own in Washington. He had double-digit carries for the second straight week on Sunday and this week took his 10 carries for 58 yards and two TDs while adding one reception. He has a tough matchup this week against a probably pissed-off 49ers' defense, but he still could be worth a look as a desperation flex if you have been left without any other options. If Robinson returns, then Rodriguez is unuseable so be sure to monitor this situation closely.
Khalil Herbert, Chicago Bears
We are still very skeptical about this backfield and would not want to start any Bears' running backs. However, his performance in Week 16 does make him worth mentioning. With D'Onta FOreman out, Herbert ran the ball 20 times for 112 yards and a TD. This backfield has been impossible to figure out week to week, and there is a decent chance Foreman returns this week and muddies things up even further. Those 20 carries are worth considering, however, we suggest you tread very carefully with this one.
Zamir White, Las Vegas Raiders
White has been a fantasy playoff revelation with Jacobs sidelined. Over the past two games, he has carried the ball 39 times for 214 yards, one TD, and has seen five targets. This includes 22 carries, 145 yards and a TD performance on Monday against the Chiefs. This week the Raiders play the Indianapolis Colts, who are allowing the third-most fantasy points to running backs this season. If Jacobs is once again ruled out, White will be an excellent start.
Justice Hill, Baltimore Ravens
Hill is what he is at this point, however, with Keaton Mitchell on injured reserve, he has once again established himself as an important piece in this offense. He saw a team-leading 10 carries on Monday night and was targeted three times. That only turned into 57 total yards, but the point remains that he's seeing opportunities and we know he is capable of a solid game, especially in that offense. We wouldn't feel confident plugging in Hill, nonetheless, he's at least going to see some touches.
Wide Receivers
K.J. Osborn, Minnesota Vikings
When Jordan Addison went down on Sunday, Osborn stepped up in a major way, catching five of seven targets for 95 yards and a TD. We can't be sure yet, but it looks like Addison's injury could cost him some time. If Addison is ruled out this week, expect Osborn to step up as the WR2 opposite of Justin Jefferson. With Jaire Alexander likely locked on Jefferson this week, it could be a productive day for the WR2 in Minnesota.
Rashid Shaheed, New Orleans Saints
Shaheed has been featured in this article constantly all year and just continues to make big plays. He caught another 45-yard TD pass this past week and finished with five catches for 70 yards and a TD on nine targets. The key here is the nine targets. On top of being a big play guy, he is also becoming a guy who gets a decent amount of volume which makes him a very intriguing fantasy option week to week. This week he faces off with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who have allowed the fourth-most fantasy points to wideouts this season.
Demarcus Robinson, Los Angeles Rams
Robinson has seemingly come out of nowhere but he now has at least 44 yards and a TD in four straight games. That includes a 10-target game in Week 14 and in Week 16 he caught all six of his targets for 82 yards and a TD. This is a scary option because he's the WR3 on his own team and has just suddenly exploded after years of being an afterthought. Nevertheless, you have to consider him after what he's been consistently doing for a month now in an offense that we know can produce a ton of fantasy value.
