Key Fantasy Football Injuries Heading into Week 3:Tua Tagovailoa, Isiah Pacheco, Cooper Kupp, Evan Engram and More
All of these players came out of Week 2 banged up and will have to be monitored prior to Week 3.
Quarterbacks
Tua Tagovailoa, Miami Dolphins (Concussion)
Tua has been sent to injured reserve after suffering a third concussion in three years. He will be out until at least Week 8. This is a tough blow to all the Dolphins' weapons, but no one will feel his loss more than Jaylen Waddle. Skylar Thompson will start Week 3, but the team also signed Tyler Huntley.
Jordan Love, Green Bay Packers (Knee)
Love has not been ruled out for Week 3, but it's very unlikely he plays. The team seems to be determined to drag his status out each week though. Malik Willis is in line for another start.
Russell Wilson, Pittsburgh Steelers (Calf)
Even if Wilson is healthy this week and he was active in Week 2, Justin Fields looks like he's going to continue to start until the wheels fall off.
Running Backs
Christian McCaffrey, San Francisco 49ers (Calf/Achilles)
CMC has now been placed on injured reserve and it sounds like he's going to miss beyond the four-game minimum. You shouldn't count on him until after mid-season. Jordan Mason will be an RB1 as long as he's out and an injury to Deebo Samuel Sr. will only boost his value.
Isiah Pacheco, Kansas City Chiefs (Leg)
Pacheco has been diagnosed with a fractured fibula and has landed on injured reserve. He will be out for 6-8 weeks. Carson Steele is pegged as the starter as of now, with Samaje Perine working in on pass-catching downs. The team also signed Kareem Hunt, whose role is not yet clear.
Joe Mixon, Houston Texans (Ankle)
Mixon suffered an ankle injury on Sunday, but it is not believed to be serious. There is still a chance that he will miss Week 3. We will have to monitor this injury throughout the week.
Kenneth Walker, Seattle Seahawks (Abdomen)
Walker sat out Week 2 and things aren't looking good for Week 3. Zach Charbonnet is looking like he'll get another start against the Dolphins this week.
Rachaad White, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Groin)
White is dealing with what is believed to be a minor groin injury. As of now, he appears to not be in danger of missing any time. However, groins are tricky and easy to re-aggravate.
Tyjae Spears, Tennessee Titans (Ankle)
Spears suffered an ankle injury on Sunday. We do not yet know the extent of the injury so we will have to monitor it throughout the week. If he is forced to miss any time, then Tony Pollard will see an increased workload.
Raheem Mostert, Miami Dolphins (Chest)
We haven't gotten an update on Mostert, who missed Thursday Night Football last week with a chest injury. It didn't appear serious and there is a good chance he's ready to go for Week 3 after an extended break.
Wide Receivers
Cooper Kupp, Los Angeles Rams (Ankle)
Kupp landed on IR this week after injuring his ankle. With Puka Nacua already sidelined, Demarcus Robinson will serve as their WR1. Tyler Johnson will also slide in as the starter opposite him.
A.J. Brown, Philadelphia Eagles (Hamstring)
Brown injured his hamstring in practice on Friday and missed Monday Night Football. He has already stated that he expects to miss a couple of weeks. DeVonta Smith gets a nice boost as the top target.
Deebo Samuel Sr., San Francisco 49ers (Calf)
Samuel has suffered a calf strain and is expected to miss about three weeks. You never quite know with a calf injury though as fantasy owners know all too well after dealing with his teammate CMC this season. His absence will be a big boost for Mason, George Kittle and Brandon Aiyuk while hurting Brock Purdy, who has already been less than stellar so far this season.
Justin Jefferson, Minnesota Vikings (Quad)
The injury to Jefferson doesn't seem to be much more than a thigh bruise and isn't expected to have any impact on Week 3. However, he's an elite option, so we are going to monitor it.
Amon-Ra St. Brown, Detroit Lions (Leg)
St. Brown seems to be in a similar boat as Jefferson, however, his may be a bit more significant. This is not a long-term concern, nevertheless, we will monitor him for Week 3.
Tee Higgins, Cincinnati Bengals (Hamstring)
After missing the first two weeks of the season with a hamstring injury, it sounds like Higgins is getting closer to suiting up for Week 3. Reports have been positive this week, so we are cautiously optimistic about his potential availability for this week.
Tight End
Evan Engram, Jacksonville Jaguars (Hamstring)
Engram injured his hamstring in pregame on Sunday and missed Week 2. It looks like he's going to miss a couple more games moving forward, but will avoid IR. Brenton Strange caught three passes for 65 yards filling in last week, but we'd be very hesitant to consider him as a streaming option.
Jake Ferguson, Dallas Cowboys (Ankle)
Ferguson missed Week 2 due to his knee injury and is in danger of missing additional time. Luke Schoonmaker was productive, catching all six of his targets for 43 yards in his absence.
