Tyquan Thornton has been dealing with a soft tissue injury, and the New England Patriots wide receiver told reporters that the team was “monitoring” it on Tuesday.

Coach Jerod Mayo mentioned that every player healthy enough to play will see the field in Thursday’s preseason opener against the Carolina Panthers. Whether Thornton will be one of those players or not remains to be seen.

The first official week of preseason football is on the horizon, which means player evaluations are about to get kicked up a notch. It’s an important period for a New England Patriots team hoping to put together a good enough roster to eliminate the stench from their four-win season in 2023.

It all starts on the offensive side of the ball.

The Patriots have made efforts in adding offensive line depth, but the injury bug has been nipping at their heels throughout training camp. Jake Andrews and Tyrone Wheatley Jr. are both on injured reserve, while Chukwuma Okorafor and Caedan Wallace have been nicked up in recent practices.

The New England Patriots opened up their 2024 preseason slate on Thursday night with a 17-3 win over the visiting Carolina Panthers.

It was mostly a defensive game dictated by field position until Patriots rookie quarterback Joe Milton III entered the game in the second half.

New England came into the matchup with an interesting strategy of starting Jacoby Brissett for a drive and following that up by giving rookie first-round draft pick Drake Maye only one drive as well. They then went with Bailey Zappe for the rest of the first quarter and most of the third

New England Patriots cornerback Isaiah Bolden had high praise for the team’s young group of wide receivers.

Bolden is entering his second season with the Patriots. His 2023 season was cut short after he suffered a head injury in the team’s preseason game against the Green Bay Packers last August. Now, he is looking to contribute to the Patriots’ strong defensive unit.

While on that unit, he has taken notice of Javon Baker, Ja’Lynn Polk and DeMario Douglas. It’s hard not to with all three consistently making plays at training camp practice
