After months of waiting, the Eagles played a football game on Friday night, traveling down I-95 for an intriguing matchup against the Baltimore Ravens.
With both teams resting the bulk of their starters, Philadelphia came away with a 16-13 win over Baltimore on a last-second 49-yard field goal from Jake Elliott after linebacker Patrick Johnson caused a late fourth-quarter fumble on a strip sack of Ravens quarterback Emory Jones.
With the matchup now complete, we’re looking at the instant analysis of the contest.

Will Shipley was drafted with the idea that he’d bring a dynamic, dual-threat ability to the Eagles’ offense. During the first drive of the preseason, Shipley made the case to be a huge part of the offense in 2024.
On the Eagles’ second drive, in place of Kenneth Gainwell, Shipley had seven carries for 23 yards rushing and one catch for a 7-yard touchdown.

Brian Daboll has taken over the play calling on offense for the New York Giants and first indications are the running game is not going into mothballs with Saquon Barkley now playing in Philadelphia with the Eagles.

The Baltimore Ravens intentionally drafted to replenish their depth chart at the defensive back position earlier this spring. They’ll get a chance to see the implications of the 2024 NFL draft when they face the Philadelphia Eagles in their preseason opener tonight.

Ravens’ rookie Nate Wiggins will tested by Eagles’ rookie wide receivers, including Johnny Wilson and former Texas A&M speedster Ainias Smith. Earlier this spring, I suggested that the Ravens draft Smith because his upside makes him an asset in special teams even if he does not make the frequent rotation needed in the 11-man personnel on offense. Nevertheless, Wilson’s game is a little different from Smith’s. Standing six feet six inches tall, Wilson creates an offensive nightmare for defensive backs, and with Ravens’ rookie wide receiver Devontez Walker already terrorizing Wiggins at practice, Wilson may excel in week 1 of the NFL preseason

Ravens have been really pleased with his camp....

Josh Johnson was 4-12 passing for 60 yards, while Owen Wright led the Baltimore rushing attack with seven carries for 33 yards, as the Ravens and Eagles finished the first half tied 6-6 at M&T Bank Stadium.
Kenny Pickett was 13-21 for 90 yards and one touchdown, while rookie running back Will Shipley displayed his dual-threat ability.
Both teams held out key starters, but Philadelphia defensive coordinator Vic Fangio ensured key players saw snaps in the first half. Most of the offensive and defensive starters sat out for the Ravens, allowing second-year linebacker Trenton Simpson to shine.

The Tennessee Titans hit the reset button on their backfield in 2024. Tennessee made the difficult choice to let franchise legend and future Hall of Famer Derrick Henry walk. Of course, with a new coaching staff and a change in philosophy, it made sense.
Gone were Mike Vrabel, Henry, and the run-first offense. In were new head coach Brian Callahan, running back Tony Pollard, and wide receivers Calvin Ridley and Tyler Boyd. The Titans also signed center Lloyd Cushenberry in free agency and used a top-10 pick on offensive tackle JC Latham

Whenever Kyle Hamilton and Lamar Jackson go against each other in practice, it is truly an example of strength versus strength. Hamilton is considered by many to be the best strong safety in the game, while Jackson is the NFL’s reigning MVP.
After the Ravens’ most recent practice was completed, Hamilton sat down with the NFL Network for a poignant interview.
During the Q&A, Hamilton paid Jackson the highest compliment possible.
“He is one of one,” the third-year defensive back said of the man ranked #2 in the NFL top 100 poll

With Roquan Smith granted the night off, backup middle linebacker Chris Board received a starting assignment for the preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Board teamed up with first-round draft pick Nate Wiggins to make the first tackle of the game for the Ravens.
That assisted tackle would ultimately be the only place that Board showed up in the stat sheet.
Board suffered a head injury midway through the first half and soon found himself in the medical tent.
He was subsequently ruled out of the game with concussion-like symptoms. The team tweeted out the following statement below

Ravens rookie tight end Qadir Ismail, the son of Super Bowl champion and broadcaster Qadry Ismail, is charting his own path.
