10-Team Categories Fantasy Basketball Mock Draft from 4th Position | Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Domantas Sabonis, Jalen Brunson, Franz Wagner, Daniel Gafford and More
Morgan conducts his second fantasy basketball draft of the year, selecting fourth in a 10-team standard categories setup.
After getting a fantasy basketball mock draft earlier in the week, I had the itch to do another one.
I completed this 10-team mock draft through Yahoo and selected from the fourth position. The league was a category scoring one: field goal/free throw percentage, 3-pointers made, points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks and turnovers. There were 10 starting spots (PG, SG, SF, PF, C, G, F, 3 Util) and three bench slots.
Let’s get into it!
Round 1 - Shai Gilgeous-Alexander
With my first-round pick, I chose SGA. Gilgeous-Alexander averaged 30.1 points, 5.5 rebounds, 6.2 assists, 2 steals, 0.9 blocks and 2.2 turnovers per game last season. That kind of well-rounded player is exactly who I’d target in a league setup like this.
Round 2 - Domantas Sabonis
Sabonis was my pick in round two, and I absolutely love it. He averaged 19.4 points, 13.7 rebounds, 8.2 assists, 0.9 steals, 0.6 blocks and 3.3 turnovers. That kind of production is hard to get out of post players, so I went with Sabonis instead of some players with more points per game.
Round 3 - Jalen Brunson
I nabbed Brunson in the third round. I wasn’t really after another point guard, but I didn’t want to reach on anyone, so I just chose the best player available. Brunson averaged 28.7 points, 3.6 rebounds, 6.7 assists, 0.9 steals, 0.2 blocks and 2.4 turnovers. He should be in store for at least those numbers again this season, but I’m anticipating an even better year from him.
Round 4 - Bam Adebayo
I added another big in round four with Adebayo. He averaged 19.3 points, 10.4 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 1.1 steals, 0.9 blocks and 2.3 turnovers last season. Bam isn’t quite as well-rounded as Sabonis, but the points and boards are good figures, and he’s also a pretty efficient shooter, so that’s what appealed to me.
Round 5 - Franz Wagner
Wagner continues to get better as he gets acclimated to the NBA. Last season, he averaged 19.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.1 steals, 0.4 blocks and 1.9 turnovers. I expect another jump in those numbers this season, so I’m a big fan of this pick, which also helps fill out my starting lineup.
Round 6 - Brandon Ingram
Ingram is another versatile wing I added in the middle rounds. He averaged 20.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, 5.7 assists, 0.8 steals, 0.6 blocks and 2.5 turnovers last season. The points are great, and he’s also got good marks in rebounds and assists - he’s also improved his shooting percentage over the past couple years, so that’s another plus.
Round 7 - Michael Porter Jr.
I noticed I was lacking 3-point specialists, so you’ll see me add a bunch of deep-range shooters over the next several picks. He averaged 16.7 points, 7 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 0.5 steals, 0.7 blocks and 1.1 turnovers. The 3-pointers are what appealed to me, but the rebounds and solid shooting percentage also will be useful for my team.
Round 8 - Jabari Smith Jr.
Smith improved his numbers in his second NBA season, and I expect another jump this coming year. He averaged 13.7 points, 8.1 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 0.7 steals, 0.8 blocks and 1.2 turnovers per contest. I view this as a nice draft steal, and if Smith really takes off this season, he could help me win it all.
Round 9 - CJ McCollum
Another 3-point pick here in round nine with McCollum. He averaged 20 points, 4.3 rebounds, 4.6 assists, 0.9 steals, 0.6 blocks and 1.7 turnovers. McCollum is a nice boost to my 3-point shooting, and not a bad rebounder or passer either.
Round 10 - Daniel Gafford
I also wanted to add some blocks and rebounds late in the mock, and Gafford accomplished that in round 10. Last season between two teams, Gafford averaged 11 points, 7.6 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 0.9 steals, 2.1 blocks and 1 turnover. I think Gafford is just starting to figure things out in the NBA, and will continue to improve this coming season.
Round 11 - Klay Thompson
My round 11 pick of Thompson was all about 3-point shooting. He averaged 17.9 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 0.6 steals, 0.5 blocks and 1.5 turnovers last season. I think he’s got a couple more solid seasons in him, and even if he isn’t the deep shooter he used to be, he’ll definitely help in the 3-point department.
Round 12 - Collin Sexton
I added another guard in round 12 with Sexton. Last season, Sexton averaged 18.7 points, 2.6 rebounds, 4.9 assists, 0.8 steals, 0.2 blocks and 2.1 turnovers. After a couple injury-plagued seasons, Sexton looked good again last season, and if he can remain healthy this season, I see him finishing with even better numbers.
Round 13 - Zach Edey
My round 13 pick was a bit of a shot in the dark with Edey. I’m not sure how effective Edey can be in today’s NBA, but I’m willing to use my last pick on him to see if he can add a good number of rebounds and blocks. He should shoot a high percentage too.
Final Thoughts
My projections for the season were pretty positive, and if a couple players take the leap I believe they will, I think I’d have a great chance to win it all with this group.
I’m not weak at any position, and have an ample amount of players at each spot. I mostly have well-rounded players who will carry my team, and some of my specialists should give me a good chance of competing with any other league opponent.
Overall, I’m feeling great about this mock, and am excited to get another mock in soon!
