Points
Anthony Edwards - OVER 28 points
Our system has Edwards at 27.5 points tonight, so that’s right on line with the PrizePicks number. His matchup against Utah is one of the better defensive matchups for a guard, so I like Edwards’ chances over going over tonight.
Over his past 10 games, Edwards is averaging 29.1 points. This will be the first meeting of the season between the teams.
Donovan Mitchell - OVER 25 points
Mitchell is projected for 27.3 points tonight, so he’s a bit over his projected line. A clash with the Hawks is another pretty favorable matchup on paper.
He’s averaging 27.5 points per game over the past 10 contests. He’s topped 25 points in three of the past four games and five of the past seven outings.
In back-to-back games against the Hawks earlier in the regular season, Mitchell had two very different outings. In the first game, he scored 30 points. Two nights later, Mitchell only scored 12 on 5-of-23 shooting. I’m trusting Mitchell’s recent numbers and Atlanta’s struggles to slow guards and say Mitchell goes over tonight.
Jalen Green - OVER 23 points
Green is only projected for 20.8 points in our system tonight. He’s at 24.9 points over his past 10 games though.
He has topped 23 points just twice over the past five games, but was over that mark in the seven games before that. Memphis is another pretty favorable matchup on paper, and Green has delivered big games against Memphis in two previous matchups.
Green scored 27 points in the team’s first meeting on January 9. He erupted for 42 points just four days later against the Grizzlies. I think Green clears 23 points tonight.
Franz Wagner - OVER 23.5 points
Wagner is another player who I like to go over tonight. He’s projected for 24.3 points in our system and has a pretty favorable matchup against the Trail Blazers tonight.
Wagner has averaged 27 points in his three games since returning to the court. He had 29 points last game and 32 the game before that.
His only game not over that 23.5-point projection since returning actually came against Portland. He scored 20 points on 9-of-20 shooting that night. He’s looked more like his early-season self the past two games, and I think Wagner keeps things rolling tonight, going over 23.5 points in the process.
Anfernee Simons - UNDER 19 points
I see Simons finishing under 19 points tonight. His matchup against Orlando is one of the toughest in the league, and Simons has averaged 18.1 points over his past nine games.
He scored 21 points against Orlando a week ago on 8-of-15 shooting, but I don’t see him faring as well tonight.
Deandre Ayton - UNDER 13.5 points
I have Ayton under 13.5 points tonight. He’s scored 14.8 points over his past five games, but has a very tough fantasy matchup against Orlando tonight.
He’s projected for 13.6 points tonight in our system. Ayton has not faced the Magic yet this season.
Jaren Jackson Jr. - UNDER 22.5 points
Jackson is another player I have going under tonight. He’s averaged 23.3 points across his past 10 games, but has a very tough matchup tonight.
Jackson scored 21 points on 9-of-15 shooting in the first clash with Houston this season. Just four days after that, he shot 6-of-12 and scored 17 points.
The mix of the tough matchup and previous showings against Houston are enough to make me think Jackson goes under tonight.
Blocks
Walker Kessler - OVER 1.5 blocks
I have Kessler getting multiple blocks tonight. So does our system, projecting him for two.
He’s averaging 1.8 blocked shots per game over the past six contests. He has at least two blocks in five of the past six games. Fantasy centers average 1.7 blocks per game against Minnesota.
Jarrett Allen - OVER 0.5 blocks
I see Allen getting at least one block tonight. He failed to record a block in his last contest, but had at least once in the four games before that.
Our projection system has him at one block tonight. Centers average 1.5 blocks per game against Atlanta. He did not record a block in either game against the Hawks earlier this season, but I’m trusting his recent trend and saying he gets at least one tonight.
Rebounds
John Collins - OVER 6.5 rebounds
I really like this pick tonight. He’s averaging 8.4 rebounds per game this season and grabbed 12 in his last appearance.
Our system has him at 9.3 rebounds tonight, which is comfortably ahead of his over/under mark. I think he eases past 6.5 boards tonight.
Alperen Sengun - OVER 7.5 rebounds
Sengun is averaging 10.2 rebounds over his past 10 games, so this feels like another slam dunk. Our system has him at 9.3 rebounds tonight.
He had eight rebounds in his last game against Memphis and 14 the meeting before that. As long as he’s active and makes it through the game, I think Sengun easily hits 7.5 rebounds.
Wendell Carter Jr. - OVER 6.5 rebounds
Carter is averaging 8.1 rebounds over his past 10 games. The projection on FantasySP has him at 8.3 rebounds, again comfortably ahead of his over/under mark tonight.
Carter only had six rebounds in the first meeting against Portland, but that also only came in 23 minutes. He’s been at 31 and 35 minutes in the two games since.
Assists
LeBron James - OVER 9 assists
Our system has James projected for nine assists tonight. The Lakers will be without Anthony Davis, so I expect James to have the ball in his hands a bunch, which should lead to double-digit assists.
He’s averaging 9.2 assists over his past 10 games, and that was with Davis playing nine of those games. LeBron has 10 or more assists in three of the past six games.
James had 13 assists in a triple-double effort in the team’s last meeting with Washington.
Isaiah Collier - OVER 4.5 assists
Collier is averaging 8.3 assists over his past 10 games. Our system has him at 6.5 assists tonight, which is still comfortably ahead of his over/under mark.
Collier has had at least eight assists in three straight games, and reached the mark in six of the past seven contests.
3-Point Makes
Fred VanVleet - OVER 2.5 3-pointers
I have VanVleet making at least three triples tonight. He’s averaging 3.7 triples over the past nine games.
He’s been a bit cold as a shooter the past two nights, but has five 3-pointers made across two games against Memphis this season. I see VanVleet getting back on track with the 3-ball tonight.
Lauri Markkanen - UNDER 2.5 3-pointers
I have Markkanen going under his 3-point line tonight. He’s 3-for-20 from deep over the past two games and going up a Minnesota team that really shuts down forwards from deep.
Of course, he could get hot, or simply make three triples after getting up double-digit attempts, but the numbers are suggesting he falls below his line tonight.
DFS Recap
In my last attempt at a DFS lineup, I did fairly well, scoring 238 points, and it really could have been a lot higher had my most-expensive players delivered.
My top scorer was Anfernee Simons, tallying 40.75 points. Damian Lillard had 35.75 points, but after spending $8,700 on him, I was pretty disappointed with the result.
Andrew Wiggins (33), Austin Reaves (33.5) and Isaiah Collier (31) were also all above 30 points. I got decent showings from Vit Krejci (28.75) and Brook Lopez (24.25) and a dud from Max Christie (11).
We’ll give it another go a different day, so check back for that.
