2021 Fantasy Football Auction Draft: Home League Recap
I had an auction draft last night in one of my home leagues. With just a few days left before the season kicks off, it might be valuable for fantasy owners to see how players were valued heading into Week 1. In this league, you must start 2 QBs, 2 RBs, 3 WRs, 1 TE, 1 Flex, 1 K and 1 DEF. This league is 21 rounds (I know, right) but that's why you'll see I spent more than the average $200.
Auction Results
Although my team isn’t as star-studded as I was perhaps hoping for, it is incredibly balanced. In fact, I was shocked that I was able to get a lot of players I liked for less money than I had budgeted. Let’s take a look.
Quarterbacks
- QB1 Russell Wilson $21
- QB2 Matthew Stafford $8
- QB3 Mac Jones $1
If you are wondering why I spent so much on Wilson, it’s because in 2-QB leagues, quarterbacks are just as valuable as running backs. Although, some of you may be wondering why I took Jones. With Cam Newton gone, I expect Jones to put up top-20 numbers. Jones makes up for what he lacks athletically with what his intellect. Between the ears, he is second to none. I was happy to get Stafford at his value. He will be a top-10 quarterback for sure. He’s never had weapons like Robert Woods, Cooper Kupp and Tyler Higbee. I wouldn’t be shocked if he tossed over 40 touchdown passes.
Running Backs
- RB1 Clyde Edwards-Helaire $27
- RB2 David Montgomery $26
- RB3 Damien Harris $19
- RB4 Javonte Williams $17
- RB5 A.J. Dillon $6
- RB6 Tony Pollard $5
- RB7 Giovani Bernard $1
I was thrilled to get Williams at $17. Mike Davis went for $24 and Gus Edwards went for $25. Edwards only two dollars less than CEH? One less dollar than Montgomery? Sign me up! And I think Javonte is as good if not better than both Davis and Edwards. Plus, I got Harris as a luxury pick but I love his upside with Cam gone. A.J. Dillon is the guy who I really wanted in the event of an Aaron Jones injury. If that happens, I’ve got myself another RB1.
Wide Receivers
- WR1 Stefon Diggs $37
- WR2 Diontae Johnson $24
- WR3 Odell Beckham Jr. $15
- WR4 Robby Anderson $15
- WR5 Michael Pittman Jr. $4
- WR6 Russell Gage $2
- WR7 Marquise Brown $1
I could not be more thrilled with my receivers. Diggs went way under where I expected him to go. I was not planning on getting him, but at $37, he was a must-purchase. Diontae Johnson and Robby Anderson were the guys I was targeting going into the night. Man, did things pan out. Anderson, Beckham, Pittman, Gage and Hollywood Brown are all solid players.
Tight Ends
- TE1 T.J. Hockenson $15
- TE2 Robert Tonyan $5
I wanted Kyle Pitts but he went for close to $25. Hockenson is coming off his best season ever and should only get better with Kenny Golladay and Marvin Jones off to new destinations. Plus, Jared Goff likes to utilize his tight end. Just look at what Tyler Higbee did at the end of the 2019 season. Tonyan could be a starter for many teams, so I was happy to pay the extra buck to get him.
Team Defense & Kicker
- Def: Washington $2
- K: Harrison Butker $1
I always like to pay the extra dollar for a top defense or kicker. This year, nobody spent $2 on a kicker outside of the owner who took Justin Tucker. So I got a Chiefs scoring machine in Butker and perhaps the best defense in the league in Washington.
