Fading Veteran Tight End Offers Minimal Fantasy Appeal Outside of Deep Formats
Jonnu Smith enters the 2026 season as a veteran depth option coming off a relatively quiet campaign. Following a career-best 2024 season with Miami where he posted 884 receiving yards, his output dipped heavily in 2025, resulting in just 41 receptions for 243 yards and two touchdowns on 57 targets.
Our data suggests his fantasy upside is heavily capped as an aging secondary target in the passing game. With his current roster ownership hovering around nine percent and active start rates resting at just two percent, fantasy managers are largely treating him as a deep-league stash or situational streamer.
Without a guaranteed starting job or a clear path to high-volume targets, Smith is difficult to trust in standard redraft formats. Unless his offensive environment shifts dramatically to boost his route participation, he should remain on fantasy waiver wires to start the season.
