Week 10: Predicting Fantasy Football's Most Dropped Players
It was a wild week across the National Football League and you may be tempted to drop most of your roster after low scoring outputs from many of the game’s biggest stars. Nobody was a lock to perform in Week 9. Even perennial studs such as Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Aaron Jones, Austin Ekeler, Davante Adams, Tyreek Hill, and Mark Andrews struggled immensely.

Now, who are the players fantasy owners are giving up on heading into Week 10?

Looking At Predictive Drops
RB Boston Scott, Philadelphia Eagles
After being one of the most coveted waiver wire pickups heading into last week, Scott was surpassed by veteran Jordan Howard on the depth chart. Although Scott remained involved in Philadelphia’s offense against the Chargers, he only mustered his way to 40 scoreless yards on 10 carries. Meanwhile, Howard and rookie running back Kenneth Gainwell each found the end zone in goal-line situations. Scott is useless in the passing game, and will see an even more limited role once Miles Sanders returns to the lineup. Fantasy owners are making the right call by cutting ties with Scott.

QB Jordan Love, Green Bay Packers
With Aaron Rodgers out against the Kansas City Chiefs, many fantasy owners saw Love as a potential Week 9 winner considering the Chiefs’ defense is terrible against opposing quarterbacks and most were expecting a shootout between two of the most high-powered offenses in the NFL. Instead, we saw a defensive battle in which the Chiefs barely escaped with a 13-7 victory over the undermanned Packers. Love struggled mightily and only passed for 190 yards while chipping in with 23 rushing yards. He threw a bad interception and saved his fantasy day with a fourth-quarter touchdown to Allen Lazard. With Rodgers expected to be back one day prior to Green Bay’s pivotal matchup with the Seattle Seahawks, fantasy owners have no reason to hold onto Love. Rodgers will be back and Love will continue to ride the bench.

WR Kadarius Toney, New York Giants
Fantasy owners are reacting quite harshly to Toney’s underwhelming performance in the Giants’ upset victory over the Raiders on Sunday. Despite the absence of Sterling Shepard, Toney only drew one target and produced nine receiving yards. He also saw two carries but finished with negative rushing yards on the day. Toney caught 16-of-22 targets for 267 receiving yards from Week 4 to Week 5. Many thought he had broken out and was poised to take over as New York’s go-to receiving option. However, Daniel Jones has spread the ball out since then and Toney has just 69 receiving yards over his last four contests. With the Giants heading into their bye week, fantasy owners see this as the time to add someone who can actually contribute in Week 10. I think fantasy owners are making a mistake, as Toney seems to be the most talented playmaker on the Giants offense outside of Saquon Barkley. I’m not convinced that he won’t produce when the G-Men return in Week 11. I wouldn’t overreact to Toney’s recent struggles. Hold on to him if you can afford the roster spot. He could prove to be valuable down the final stretch.
RB Khalil Herbert, Chicago Bears
Herbert looked amazing ever since David Montgomery went on Injured Reserve. However, Montgomery was activated just in time for Chicago’s primetime matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday night. While some thought Montgomery would slowly be eased back into action ahead of Chicago’s Week 10 bye, D-Mont saw 13 carries compared to Herbert’s four and Montgomery saw the only two targets out of the backfield. Herbert finished with just four carries for 13 rushing yards. With Montgomery back in the lineup, it appears Herbert’s time as the featured back has come to an end. It’s a bit odd that Herbert wasn’t mixed into the game plan a bit more considering he was seeing 20+ touches per game and producing almost 100 total yards per game in Montgomery’s absence. But we have all seen Matt Nagy make some pretty head-scratching decisions. I’d say it’s safe to drop Herbert now that Montgomery looks to be at full strength.

WR Jamison Crowder, New York Jets
After missing the first three games of the season, Crowder burst onto the scene and secured seven receptions for 61 yards and a touchdown in Week 4 against the Titans. However, Crowder has been held scoreless since then and has exceeded double-digit fantasy points in just one game over that span. With Elijah Moore’s ascendence last week and the looming return of WR1 Corey Davis, fantasy owners have decided that it’s time to cut bait with Jamison Crowder. While I understand the impulse, Crowder is still a reliable veteran who is a chain-mover and can provide value in PPR leagues. He’s not going to be staple of your starting lineup, but he can certainly be a bye week filler during the pivotal weeks before the postseason. Fantasy owners are dropping Crowder at much too high a rate. Yes, his ceiling is limited, but his floor is also about seven PPR points. I’d hold onto Crowder a little longer.

RB Jeremy McNichols, Tennessee Titans
McNohols was a highly sought after running back on the waiver wire following the news of Derrick Henry’s potentially season-ending foot injury. But in Tennessee’s first game since King Henry’s dethroning, McNichols played second fiddle to newly acquired Adrian Peterson. McNichols played the most snaps out of the running backs (26), but didn’t produce much, managing just 24 yards on seven carries and 11 yards on three receptions. Peterson and D’Onta Foreman weren’t much better, but AP found the end zone. I think the game script is the main reason that McNichols didn’t contribute more. The Titans got off to a massive early lead and tried to chew out the clock with Peterson and Foreman. McNichols is more valuable as a passing option out of the backfield. I think better things are coming and I wouldn’t cut ties just yet.
