Top 5 Quarterbacks in the AFC East: Ranking Josh Allen, Tua Tagovailoa, and McCorkle Jones
There has been plenty of debate about who the best quarterback in the AFC East is and we're here to give you the definitive list of the Top 5 QBs in the division.
Top 5 Quarterbacks in the AFC East
5. Zach Wilson, New York Jets
Coming in at No. 5, we have Zach Wilson. With Aaron Rodgers out for the season, Wilson has been thrust back into a starting role. Rodgers claims he may be back for the playoffs, but he won't. He's a nearly 40-year-old man whose Achilles exploded and he wasn't very good last year. He'll be lucky if he's back next year and even close to decent. However, the point is moot anyway because the Jets aren't making the playoffs.
Wilson is an abomination of a quarterback and the whole team knows he stinks. Last year, his wide receivers were wearing shirts supporting the backup quarterback who was better than him. The team is rallying around him now, but check back in three weeks after they get a chance to watch him play and he's missing a wide-open Garrett Wilson. This team is going to fall apart and it's because of the quarterback. They have a lot of pieces in place to be a great team, but they are missing the key piece of the puzzle. Wilson isn't only the worst quarterback in the AFC East, he's the worst starting quarterback in the NFL.
4. Mike White, Miami Dolphins
You heard me mention Zach Wilson's backup who was better than him. Well, he's in Miami now and he's coming in at number four. The Dolphins backup breathed some life into an anemic Jets' offense last year and supplanted Wilson as the starting quarterback because he was clearly better. When he came in the offense ran better and the team morale was infinitely higher. The receivers openly supported White over Wilson. Despite only being a backup, White is still better than the Jets starter. This year he won't be there to save him.
3. McCorkle Jones, New England Patriots
Many people are very torn on Jones whether he's good or bad. I'm not one of those people. Jones is a noodle-armed sub par quarterback who struggles to throw the ball beyond 15 yards downfield and plays his worst ball in the fourth quarter. He's a bottom ten quarterback in the league and if a few of these young kids develop he could be closer to bottom five by the end of 2023. We saw him get benched last year for Bailey Zappe who played better than him and had the fans chanting his name from the crowd when Jones was back in. Perhaps he can turn things around after a good Week 1 with a new offensive coordinator, but the bigger issue is a lack of talent. At the end of the day, he's just not good.
2. Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills
Allen is easily the flashiest quarterback in the AFC East and his ability to run makes him a superstar. The issue is his passing. Allen is an inaccurate passer and a horrific decision-maker. In 2022, he led the league in turnovers and already in 2023 leads the league with four turnovers and three interceptions. Don't get me wrong, when he's great, he's great. He has a cannon for an arm and is like a tank running with the ball. It's almost like he's a young Cam Newton. Nevertheless, it's his legs that make him special and that becomes an issue for a QB as he begins to age. We have seen regression from Allen as a passer over the past two seasons since Brian Daboll left for New York. At some point, he's going to have to figure out a way to make better decisions and limit the turnovers.
1. Tua Tagovailoa, Miami Dolphins
Tua sits at the head of the table in the AFC East. It's time that we accept what was always inevitable and acknowledge the Tribal Chief. His decision-making, accuracy, and ability to place the ball perfectly on deep, intermediate, and short routes are incredible. He hit Tyreek Hill with two passes last week on their game-winning drive that was otherworldly. People did a whole lot of talking about Tua, but he is burying the naysayers week after week. Embarrassing them and making them look foolish. As long as he stays healthy he will continue to climb the rankings as one of the best quarterbacks in not only the AFC East but the entire NFL. Don't be shocked if you see Uce playing in February this season.
