Week 6 Fantasy Football Drop Candidates: Deshaun Watson, Zamir White, Jauan Jennings, Mark Andrews and More
These are players you can consider dropping this week to make room for your waiver wire pickups.
Quarterbacks
Deshaun Watson, Cleveland Browns
This past week was the nail in the coffin for Watson. He couldn't get anything done against the Washington Commanders, who have been the worst pass defense in the NFL this season. His final stat line was 125 yards, one TD and one fumble.
It is time to give up on whatever little hope you may have had that he was ever going to get back to what he once was during his days with the Houston Texans. We have no idea what happened to him, but it's over. The trade the Browns made for him and the contract they then signed him to will go down as one of, if not the worst in NFL history.
Gardner Minshew, Las Vegas Raiders
We know not many fantasy owners are relying on Minshew. Nevertheless, there is a chance he is owned in quite a few Superflex leagues where almost every QB is rostered. His benching has now become imminent. We still believe that he's the better option than Aidan O'Connell, but that team feels like they have to do something, and that move looks like it's going to be the quarterback.
Jacoby Brissett, New England Patriots
Copy and paste the Minshew analysis and place it here. It's the same situation but with a bit more hope for the incoming option. Brissett's days as a starter are over and the Drake Maye era is about to begin.
Running Backs
Ezekiel Elliott, Dallas Cowboys
Dowdle officially declared himself as the guy in Dallas this week. Zeke will be little more than a change-of-pace guy moving forward.
In Week 5, Dowdle carried the ball 20 times for 87 yards, while adding two receptions for 27 yards. Elliott managed just 17 yards on six carries and didn't catch a pass. It's been a fun ride, but Zeke is now a thing of the past.
Zamir White, Las Vegas Raiders
Things were already trending this way, but with White out this week, things went even worse than expected. Mattison had already taken his starting job despite not being particularly good, however, now it looks like Ameer Abdullah may have stolen the backup job. He broke off a 40-yard TD run and caught three passes. We can't be sure that White will have any role even once he's fully healthy.
Antonio Gibson, New England Patriots
Reports came out this week that Rhamondre Stevenson would be benched in Week 5 due to his fumbling issues. Because of this, fantasy owners rushed to the waiver wire to pick up Gibson. It turns out this benching was little more than a shallow message being sent.
Stevenson didn't start the first drive and then stepped back into his usual role as the bell-cow back. If you snatched up Gibson in hopes that he was the new starter in New England, you were left with disappointment. This was a pointless thing to do that served no purpose other than to make their coaching staff look silly.
Wide Receivers
Romeo Doubs, Green Bay Packers
Doubs' antics are causing him to fall out of favor in Green Bay. You could have already made the case that he was the fourth-best wideout on the Packers before he was suspended by the team for Week 5.
He was suspended because he skipped multiple practices last week because he was frustrated with his role in the offense. That franchise isn't going to put up with that and they have enough options that they don't have to.
Jauan Jennings, San Francisco 49ers
Jennings had his moment in the sun and could shine again in the future. However, for the time being, he's now relegated back to his backup role. Deebo Samuel Sr. is back healthy and Ricky Pearsall will be back on the field soon. There is a chance that Jennings still has a strong game here or there, but you will not be able to predict them or rely on him. You can safely cut him loose.
Tight Ends
Mark Andrews, Baltimore Ravens
Be grateful that you got a few points out of Andrews late in last week's game and move on if you have any other decent option. Up until the fourth quarter, third-string Charlie Kolar was a significantly bigger part of the game plan in the passing attack.
Do not just look at his stat line from that game and be encouraged. If you watched the game, you know that you got lucky to get any fantasy points and it's time to turn to better options.
