Week 7 Fantasy Football Drop Candidates: Kyler Murray, Antonio Gibson, Calvin Ridley and More

You can consider dropping these players on to your waiver wire this week.

Quarterbacks

Kyler Murray, Arizona Cardinals

This may be jumping the gun a bit, but this is a name that has been coming up a lot when it comes to benching or cutting a QB this week. He has not been for a full month now and an injury Marvin Harrison Jr. does make things feel promising for next week.

However, we wouldn't cut him just yet in anything deeper than an eight-team league. If you are in a 10-team league, it's not a crazy move if you have a guy like Baker Mayfield and a shallow bench, but it's a tough call.

Jacoby Brissett, New England Patriots

Not many people own Brissett, but this is specifically for owners in deep Superflex leagues. Drake Maye came in this past week and played well enough that we are never going to see Brissett start another game in New England without an injury. It's time to cast him aside in all leagues no matter how deep.

Justin Fields, Pittsburgh Steelers

The Steelers have announced that Russell Wilson will get the starting job in Week 7 now that he's finally healthy. It's not beyond the realm of possibilities that Wilson can fall on his face and Fields will get the job back, however, in a lot of leagues it's tough to sit on a backup quarterback in hopes that he eventually gets the job.

Running Backs

Gus Edwards, Los Angeles Chargers

Edwards was placed on injured reserve last week and we may have seen the end of him. Rookie Kimani Vidal stepped in Week 6 and looked better than Edwards had at any point this season. J.K. Dobbins had already captured the starting job, but now it looks like even if Dobbins were to get injured or slow down, Edwards probably won't even be the next man up.

Antonio Gibson, New England Patriots

Gibson got his big opportunity this week with Rhamondre Stevenson sidelined and he carried the ball 13 times for 19 yards. It's hard to be that bad. There doesn't seem to be any reason to keep him on your roster considering Stevenson will be back and it feels impossible to start Gibson this week even if he does get another start.

Cam Akers, Houston Texans

The Akers experience wasn't fun while it lasted and now it's over. If he's still on your roster, it's time to let him go. Joe Mixon and Dameon Pierce both returned in Week 6 and are far ahead of him in the pecking order.

Not only will Akers not be startable with them healthy, but he wasn't very good when they were out and probably won't even be active moving forward. There is a chance he's even traded or cut at some point in the near future.

Wide Receivers

Calvin Ridley, Tennessee Titans

This is the most polarizing name coming up this week. He has been completely useless and help at the quarterback position doesn't seem to be coming anytime soon in Tennessee. Over the past three weeks, he's caught a total of two passes for 14 yards.

In Week 6 he was targeted eight times and couldn't catch any of them. It's a scary thought just outright cutting him, but we understand the decision if you do.

Mike Williams, New York Jets

Williams followed his "man gets hit in groin with football" moment by falling down and allowing the Buffalo Bills to make the game-ending interception on Monday Night Football. The Jets subsequently followed that performance up by trading for Davante Adams on Tuesday morning.

Not only is Williams never getting another pass thrown his way by Rodgers, but he may also get cut by the team. Allan Lazard may be appearing in this article in the coming weeks as well.

Quentin Johnston, Los Angeles Chargers

This applies to pretty much all the Chargers wideouts, but Johnston was the one we most recently had hope for. He can be sent to the waiver wire with the once-promising Joshua Palmer and any other pass catcher in Los Angeles, along with their quarterback.

Dontayvion Wicks, Green Bay Packers

With Christian Watson back, there is no reason to hold on to Wicks. He is the WR4 in Green Bay and a general afterthought in the offense. Also, he got banged up this week and hurt his shoulder, which could lead to him missing time. Whether he misses time or not, he doesn't need to be on your roster.
