Week 8 Fantasy Football Drop Candidates: Justin Fields, Devin Singletary, Christian Watson, and More
You can drop these players to the waiver wire this week.
Quarterbacks
Justin Fields, Pittsburgh Steelers
There was some hope that Russell Wilson would fall flat on his face on Sunday night against the Jets' defense and his stint as the Steelers' starter would be short-lived. Despite Fields' limitations as a passer, his dynamic rushing ability gives him massive fantasy upside. Unfortunately, that doesn't appear to be the case. Wilson had the offense looking better than it did with Fields under center, and it looks like he'll be holding on to the starting job, making Fields expendable. He can dropped to the waiver wire.
Aaron Rodgers, New York Jets
Many fantasy managers were sure that with Davante Adams joining the Jets and being paired with Garrett Wilson, there was no way Rodgers couldn't find fantasy success. Rodgers now has Adams, Wilson, Allen Lazard, and Breece Hall to throw to; how could he not be a solid fantasy option? He's not, because he's washed. It's over for Rodgers, and it's over for the Jets. Adding him was a disaster for anyone involved, and all that's left to do now is watch them spiral. In his first game with Adams, Rodgers threw for 276 yards, one TD, and two picks. That's just 10 TDs and seven interceptions on the season, and he hasn't thrown for 300 yards in a game since the 12th ... of December ... in 2021.
Running Backs
Jerome Ford, Cleveland Browns
Ford has already become a sketchy start due to his inconsistent usage in the Browns' backfield combined with their anemic offense. Now that he's out injured and Nick Chubb is back, he can be safely dropped to the waiver wire, even in the deepest of leagues. The only thing he will do for your fantasy team, barring drastic changes and multiple injuries in Cleveland, is lock up a much-needed roster spot.

Antonio Gibson, New England Patriots
Gibson went from a high-priority waiver wire add to a player who has never had less value this season. Rhamondre Stevenson is now back from injury, and JaMycal Hasty is seeing his role grow after Gibson flopped when given an opportunity in Stevenson's absence. Now that he has proven that he doesn't hold value even when given a shot to start, there is absolutely no reason to hold to Gibson any longer.
Devin Singletary, New York Giants
Singletary returned this past week, but he did not return to his every-down role. He was in a split-back system with Tyrone Tracy Jr., and it's clear that he is quickly fading to a secondary role behind the rookie. Things are going to get worse, not better for Singletary. Tracy is the future in New York and the future is now.
Trey Sermon, Indianapolis Colts
Sermon has once again proven that he's terrible. It doesn't matter how many touches he's given or how good the matchup is, you don't want him in your starting lineup. Tyler Goodson proved to be the more explosive back in Jonathan Taylor's absence, and it now sounds like Taylor will be returning to practice soon. There is no reason to ever pick Sermon up again under any circumstance because he's just not good.
Zamir White, Las Vegas Raiders
White returned from injury last week and, as suspected, he has lost his starting job to Alexander Mattison. Mattison carried the ball 23 times for 92 yards and caught all three of his targets for 31 yards, while White saw just three carries and one target in the game. It's over for White, and he can safely be dropped to the waiver wire.
Wide Receivers
Christian Watson, Green Bay Packers
The oft-injured Watson finished sixth on the team in targets this week with just two. Watson can't stay healthy, and now it looks like he's dropping down the pecking order for targets. That's not to say that he can't have a big game every now and then, but they will be impossible to predict and few and far between. Drop him to the waiver wire and let him be someone else's problem.
DeAndre Hopkins, Tennessee Titans
It looks like Hopkins is all but done, and poor quarterback play in Tennessee isn't going to help revive him. Mason Rudolph threw 40 passes on Sunday, and Hopkins managed just one target. He turned that target into -2 yards. Unless he gets traded, there is no reason to have any hope for him becoming fantasy-relevant this season. Even if he were to be traded, he wouldn't be assured of any fantasy success.
