Tough injury scene for Falcons: DB Demarco Hellams carted off the field with air cast on his leg in early preseason opener drive. Hellams has been competing for a starting safety spot. Earlier this week, ATL WR Rondale Moore suffered season-ending knee injury in joint practices.

The Atlanta Falcons have ruled out 22 players ahead of Friday’s preseason opener against the Miami Dolphins. As expected, most of the team’s starters won’t play, so we should get a nice long look at some players fighting for roster spots.
The only notable starter who appears to be playing is safety Richie Grant. Perhaps it’s a sign Grant’s job isn’t entirely secure, but we don’t want to read too much into anything during Week 1 of the preseason. Here’s the full list of players ruled out, per the team’s website

The first few drives for the Falcons offense ended quickly. After going three-and-out to start the game, Atlanta followed that up with a fumble by wide receiver Chris Blair. Neither drive allowed rookie quarterback Michael Penix to get into a rhythm. That would change on the second drive, though.
Penix showed confidence in his receiver by going back to Blair and connecting on a 41-yard catch and run down the sideline. Catch out the highlight below, as by the NFL’s official Twitter account:
Penix makes the connection downfield!

Rookie safety Patrick McMorris, who tied for the team lead in tackles with 8, told me he was awarded a game ball. Nice job by the rook and well deserved

Liking what I'm seeing from Patrick Paul the more I watch him. He's aggressive and stays on blocks. Not saying he's ready to start, but I like what I'm seeing so far

Nice back-to-back plays by Nik Needham, blitzing and then having a PBU

Nice play by LB Channing Tindall. He's had a quiet camp

Do you remember what the running back position looked like for the San Francisco 49ers prior to the arrival of Christian McCaffrey? Things were different, but by no means were they negative.
With the help of then run-game coordinator Mike McDaniel, Kyle Shanahan’s offense was quickly known for developing top-end talent without the star power. With the help of their running back-friendly scheme, Shanahan and the 49ers seemed to often find hidden gems who could carry the rock and get instant production. Players like Raheem Mostert, Elijah Mitchell and Matt Brieda all broke out and thrived in Shanahan’s offense

With starters for both the Miami Dolphins and Atlanta Falcons watching from the sideline, it was the home team’s backups that earned a 20-13 win at Hard Rock Stadium on Friday night.
On a night full of sloppy offense, a few of the Dolphins’ draftees shined brightest in their first game in aqua.
Running back Jaylen Wright led the way for the Dolphins offense with 5.5 yards per carry and a touchdown in his limited action, and left tackle Patrick Paul looked like a mauler against overmatched Falcons defensive linemen

On a summer afternoon joggers, bicyclists and several people with big-brimmed hats, a few looking through binoculars, focused their attention on the squawking and seemingly chaotic swarm of white birds flying over a crescent-shaped island in Mission Bay. The social frenzy was thousands of elegant terns teaching their fledglings how to fly and forage at a man-made piece of land known as West Ski Island that lies less than a quarter-mile from Crown Point Park. A few women stopped to ask Andrew Meyer, the director of conservation at San Diego Audubon Society, and Cristina Santa Maria, conservation manager for the […]

The Miami Dolphins kick off their 2024 preseason with a home exhibition against the Atlanta Falcons on Friday night. It’ll be the first glimpse at a new squad that largely resembles its 2023 version with a few tweaks across the roster.
The 2023 season was a year that saw many franchise records get shattered, but the team fell short of its season goal. A playoff loss to the Kansas City Chiefs continued a postseason victory drought dating back to 2001.
Gone now are Christian Wilkins, Andrew Van Ginkel, Robert Hunt, Raekwon Davis and Brandon Jones. Replacing them are a slew of defensive linemen including veteran Calais Campbell, new defensive starters Jordyn Brooks, Kendall Fuller, and Jordan Poyer, offensive lineman Aaron Brewer, and a few new targets for quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

When the Miami Dolphins released their first depth chart of the season ahead of a preseason debut against the Atlanta Falcons, coaches gave Mike White the nod over Skylar Thompson as the second-team quarterback
But head coach Mike McDaniel made sure to clarify Wednesday that the battle for the backup job is far from over.
“I see that as it’s neck and neck, and far from me even thinking about who’s going to win that job, and I think that’s a compliment just because they’re both developing very well,” McDaniel said
