Game News

I'm thinking Jake Moody won't be on the 49ers next season.

Deebo Samuel saved his best for when the 49ers needed it the least. What a player.

Nick Bosa and Dre Greenlaw are active today vs. the Dolphins.

Brock Purdy overcame a ton on that drive. TD came the play after Jaylon Moore and Aaron Banks clearly did not earn their Toyotas

At his postgame press conference, Fred Warner declined to discuss big picture or the 49ers offense and said the 49ers defense must force turnovers to win. Not much of an endorsement of Kyle Shanahan.

Jonnu Smith set a Dolphins single season record for receiving yards for a TE today (802). Incredible year for talented playmaker.
Also shows love to Jon Embree, one of best TE coaches in league who also helped develop early career George Kittle.
@Marcel_LJ: Dolphins TE Jonnu Smith on his record-setting season: “This is the first time i've really been able to come into my own … God's timing is perfect.”
Also heaped praise on Dolphins TE coach Jon Embree for “taking my game to another level”

Patrick Taylor Jr. doesn't know where to be. Purdy was clearly throwing to the trusted spot and Taylor wasn't there after also running the wrong way for the play fake

Maliek Collins hit Tua on that narrowly-missed Tyreek end-zone throw. Collins is top-5 among DTs in pass-rush win rate. Another 2-year signing who should be returning for the 49ers in 2025

Spencer Burford is in — probably to play left tackle. This has reached Code Red for the 49ers

The 49ers made a lot of strides on the right side of the O-line from 2023 to 2024, mainly thanks to Dominick Puni's arrival at RG. But Brendel and Banks both saw pass-blocking regressions and then the injury decimation of the entire left side today was just too much Shanahan has typically started with solidification at center (Richburg, Mack)

Greenlaw is on the 49ers sideline trying to get loose. He has a towel on his shoulder, no helmet on.
@mattbarrows: Greenlaw (right calf) is questionable to return. Dee Winters is in at weak side linebacker.

I don't see Leonard Floyd (shoulder) on the 49ers' sideline. He hasn't missed a game since 2017.

49ers' current o-line: LT: Spencer Burford LG: Nick Zakelj C: Jake Brendel RG: Dom Puni RT: Colton McKivitz

49ers number watch (level: challenging) 20 RB Israel Abanikanda 32 RB Patrick Taylor Jr. 41 LB Jalen Graham 49 RB Ke'Shawn Vaughn 58 DE Alex Barrett 62 OL Austen Pleasants

#49ers go to base defense around the goal line. Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles in as the third linebacker. Appeared to enter the game without objection.

#49ers inactives: QB Josh Dobbs (3rd QB) OT Trent Williams (ankle) RB Isaac Guerendo (hamstring) DE Robert Beal Jr. (ankle) CB Rock Ya-Sin TE Jake Tonges DT Khalil Davis

That was Eric Saubert's third touchdown catch in 10 seasons.

Judging from warm-ups, Israel Abanikanda will be RB2 for the #49ers. He also might handle kick returns.

Mitch Wishnowsky: 9 games, 22 punts Pat O'Donnell: 5 games, 21 punts (and climbing)

#49ers DE Nick Bosa is warming up in his usual routine, a good sign for him after being listed as questionable with lingering hip and oblique injuries again this week.

Big TFL on that first drive from 49ers DT Jordan Elliott, who's one of the many D-linemen SF signed to 2-year contracts entering 2024 — eyeing a late-2024/2025 peak. And the front has really started to blossom. sfstandard.com/2024/12/18/the…

It's either him or new guy Austen Pleasants.
@TommyHouse101: @mattbarrows Who is his backup? Zakelj?

After a loss to the Houston Texans last week, the Miami Dolphins would need a miracle to reach the postseason. They can only keep that hope alive by winning three straight games to end the year, beginning at home Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers.
Just like the Dolphins, the 49ers aren’t yet eliminated from postseason play with a 6-8 record. But a run to keep the year alive is even more unlikely for San Francisco.
Both teams enter Week 16 with a long list of injuries. The Dolphins expect to be without Jaylen Waddle and could be missing Tyreek Hill, as well. The 49ers will be missing offensive tackle Trent Williams and plan to move forward with a fifth-string running back

The Miami Dolphins host the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium in a late afternoon matchup of 6-8 teams. The Dolphins will be playing for their postseason lives in the AFC against a battered and bruised Niners team all but out of contention in the NFC. Each team will be missing stars, as the Niners will be without running back Christian McCaffrey and Miami will likely be without wide receiver Jaylen Waddle.
When looking at prop bet plays across the stats landscape, Miami has a few players who could leave Sunday’s game as franchise record holders in certain areas within their respective positions

Injury Update | Kendall Fuller has a knee injury and is questionable to return.

Pocket was not clean on that first play — Da'Shawn Hand beat McKivitz. But Purdy showed good presence and delivered an accurate 17-yarder to Jennings

Chop Robinson put McKivitz on skates there, resulting in the red-zone deflection

Deebo Samuel and former 49ers RB Jeff Wilson Jr. shared a big hug when the Dolphins came out of the tunnel

WR Jaylen Waddle (knee) is on sideline with sleeve on right leg. He's in good spirits, chatting up fellow WRs, laughing and smiling

The Miami Dolphins will be without wide receiver Jaylen Waddle in Week 16 against the San Francisco 49ers due to a knee injury.
Waddle’s absence is no surprise after he missed the week’s practices and was listed as doubtful for Sunday. The good news for the Dolphins is that they’ll have wide receiver Tyreek Hill and left tackle Terron Armstead, who were both listed as questionable.
With Austin Jackson on injured reserve and both Armstead and Kendall Lamm out of action last week, the Dolphins were forced to turn to Patrick Paul and Jackson Carman as their starting offensive tackles. With both Armstead and Lamm back in Week 16, the Miami offensive line will look much closer to its usual lineup

Jonnu Smith is officially having the best season any tight end has ever had with the Miami Dolphins.
With a 22-yard reception in the third quarter Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers, Smith set a single-season franchise record for a tight end. The reception was his 74th of the year, eclipsing the previous record of 73 that was set by Randy McMichael in 2004 and tied by Mike Gesicki in 2021.
Two plays later, Smith caught his 75th pass for a gain of nine that moved him to 797 yards on the year, surpassing McMichael’s record of 791 yards that was also set in 2004

Led by Isaiah Johnson's 14 points, the Portland State Vikings defeated the Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners 59-58.

Houston Texans rookie safety Calen Bullock was fined twice by the NFL for rule violations from a game last week’s 20-12 win against the Miami Dolphins.
The first fine is for $5,916 due to unnecessary roughness for a hit on a defenseless player for a collision with wide receiver Grant DuBose. Following the play, DeBuose was stretchered off the field and taken to a nearby hospital, where he stayed for several days because of a head injury.
DuBose was released earlier this week and placed on injured reserve

Spalding quarterback Malik Washington closed a phenomenal high school career this season and has been named Capital Gazette Player of the Year.
