The New England Patriots have reportedly signed linebacker Joe Giles-Harris and Yvandy Rigby to the practice squad, according to ESPN’s Mike Reiss.

Giles-Harris was always considered a long-shot roster hopeful, but he steadily worked his way closer to making the initial 53-man roster after an impressive training camp and preseason run. He even picked off Washington Commanders backup quarterback Jeff Driskel in the preseason finale.

However, it still wasn’t enough to secure a spot in a crowded linebackers room in New England. He was an obvious practice squad candidate the moment he was released

Final rushing statistics of games often did not tell the actual story of the struggle experienced by the Commanders’ offense because of quarterback Jayden Daniels’s rushing numbers.

Daniels would rush for first downs when pass plays would break down, and his giftedness kept the chains moving but masked the fact that the offensive line and running backs had games where they really struggled in the run game

The 2024 NFL season was supposed to be a rebuilding year for the Washington Commanders. Adam Peters and Dan Quinn were brought in after the 2023 season ended with just four wins, they had to draft a quarterback, and their supporting cast of skill players was mediocre at best.

But what happened next shocked everyone, including the Commanders. Wide receiver Terry McLaurin took a big leap in terms of touchdowns. Way back in 1978, the NFL expanded its 14-game season to 16 games. NFL seasons remained at 16 games until 2021 when a 17th game was added. There was controversy around that expansion with players citing concerns about their health and endurance, but the owners voted and it stood.

When the 17-game season was approved, there was talk even then about expanding to 18 games by 2025. Well, here it is 2025, and while it’s unlikely to happen this year, it’s still up for consideration. The New York Giants have placed tight end Lawrence Cager on season-ending injured reserve (IR) with a groin issue. He had previously been listed as doubtful to play on Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams.

Taking Cager’s place on the 53-man roster is second-year linebacker Darrian Beavers, who was signed from the team’s practice squad.

The Giants selected Beavers in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL draft but he suffered a torn ACL in the team’s second preseason game. He avoided starting this season on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list but was waived as a part of final cuts and then added to the practice squad

It was back in the Week 3 edition of Monday Night Football, with the Commanders on the road against the heavily favored Cincinnati Bengals.

There was immense pressure on Daniels to score often as Washington’s defense would have issues stopping Joe Burrow and Cincinnati’s high-powered offense.

Commanders’ new addition, wide receiver K.J. Osborn, has arrived and has hit the playbook.

WUSA9 in Washington reported that Osborn communicated he was picked up by the Commanders Wednesday afternoon, caught a flight Wednesday night, arrived around midnight, and was up by 5 a.m., getting to work on his Commanders’ playbook.

Catching only seven passes and one touchdown with the Patriots, who are 3-10, Osborn has a very upbeat attitude after being signed by the Commanders, who are 8-5 and in the seventh-seed NFC Playoff position

The Washington Commanders have 31 impending free agents in 2024, and it stands to reason that not all of them will return to the team in 2025. Recently, The 33rd Team announced some free agency moves that could shake up the NFL, and one of those involved Commanders wide receiver Dyami Brown landing with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The 2025 NFL Draft receiver class isn’t overly deep or fast, so teams will want to buy their way out of forcing an early-round pick at the position.

While the 25-year-old Dyami Brown was on the field for about 40 percent of snaps and caught only 30 passes for 308 yards and one touchdown in the regular season, his team-leading 229 yards on 14 receptions in the postseason opened eyes. An incentive-laden deal will await Brown in free agency as teams chase his speed
