Which Western Conference Players Could Be Traded Next? Jordan Clarkson, Brandon Ingram, Jerami Grant, Bradley Beal, Andrew Wiggins and More

Let’s wrap up this quick, two-part series where I highlight several players who could be moved before the trade deadline on Thursday, February 6.

There was a big shakeup in the NBA over the weekend with a pair of big deals happening. Luka Doncic and Anthony Davis were moved in a blockbuster deal, while De'Aaron Fox and Zach LaVine were a part of another big transaction.

It got me thinking about which NBA players might be traded next, so I decided to do this series. Let’s discuss the Western Conference after already looking at several Eastern Conference options.

I split the East story into players from rebuilding teams, playoff teams and contenders, but I don’t see any true standout contending teams in the West, so we’ll stick to rebuilding teams and playoff teams.

Players from Rebuilding Teams

I have just three teams in the rebuilding section. The last-place Jazz are the first team I’ll talk about.

Some veterans the team could move are P.J. Tucker and Jordan Clarkson - everyone else is 27 years old or younger. Both are making less than $15 million this season, so they are pretty affordable.

If the Jazz want to offload some salary, Lauri Markkanen, John Collins and Collin Sexton are trade assets. Getting more picks and young talent might not be the easiest given the players available.

The Pelicans are 14th in the West and likely going to retool instead of going for it.

One veteran who might be traded is CJ McCollum, but he’s making over $33 million, so that won’t be easy to pull off. He’s also over $30 next season, but the veteran still would be a nice addition for a contending team.

Brandon Ingram is also making over $36 million this season, but his talent might still be worth it for a true contending team. He’s a risk given his durability/injury history.

I wonder if the Pelicans might want to move Zion Williamson too. He’s a great talent when healthy, but hasn’t been out there enough to make a big difference. The other question is: would any other team even want him?

The Trail Blazers are still rebuilding and sit in 13th in the conference.

Jerami Grant is the only player over 28 years old. He’s also nearly making $30 million, so trading him won’t be the easiest. Grant should still be a target for a post-needy contender.

Deandre Ayton is making over $34 million this season, and is just 26. If a contending team needing a big wants an experienced post player, Ayton would be an intriguing addition, albeit an expensive one.

Robert Williams III and Matisse Thybulle are making over $10 million and might be offloaded to help Portland get organized for the coming years.

Players from Playoff Teams

The other 12 Western Conference teams are all in this section. Let’s start with the Spurs, who already added Fox.

The Spurs are clearly looking to be contenders in the coming seasons, so they’ll be more likely to just stand pat, or move off veteran contracts.

Chris Paul and Harrison Barnes are two veterans making a lot, but also are valuable role models for an otherwise very young team. I think they keep both guys.

Devin Vassell is nearly making $30 million, and Keldon Johnson and Barnes are each over $18 million. Jeremy Sochan is at just $5 million, but is another name who might not be in the team’s long-term plans.

The Warriors are outside the playoff picture right now, but unless Stephen Curry is traded, they are in the playoff hunt. Maybe they’ll trade Curry - I’m only half joking.

Draymond Green, Gary Payton II, Buddy Hield, Dennis Schroder and Kyle Anderson are all over 30 years old, at least making $8 million. I’d be surprised if one of them isn’t moved at the deadline. Andrew Wiggins is a more expensive $26 million, and Kevon Looney is at $8 million but just 28 years old.

Golden State should shakeup its roster somehow, and I think Curry is probably the only untouchable.

The Kings sent out Fox, but getting LaVine keeps them in the playoff picture.

If Sacramento wants to get younger, moving DeMar DeRozan makes some sense. Trey Lyles could be another option with his $8 million contract. I could see the Kings trading, but it being more likely after the season is over.

The Mavericks lost Donic, but still got Davis in return. They were in the Finals last year, and should be in the playoff mix again this season.

I’m not really sure what other moves Dallas might make at the deadline. There’s veterans (Klay Thompson, Dwight Powell, Kyrie Irving, Davis, Spencer Dinwiddie) who could be moved. Younger guys with larger salaries (P.J. Washington, Daniel Gafford) could also be sent packing.

I’m not ruling anything out after the Doncic trade.

The Suns could go in several directions too. Bradley Beal has been in trade talks all season, and if that’s the case, maybe the only untouchable on the team is Kevin Durant?

Jusuf Nurkic, Grayson Allen and Royce O'Neale are trade options outside of the big three (Durant, Beal and Devin Booker). I’d expect the Suns to go for it again, then blow things up after the season if it all fails.

The Timberwolves have taken a step back this season, so the deadline could help them get back to being big-time contenders.

I’m not sure if anyone is untouchable outside of Anthony Edwards. Mike Conley, Rudy Gobert, Julius Randle, Donte DiVincenzo, Jaden McDaniels and Naz Reid are among the players with big contracts who could be moved. The Timberwolvers could really shakeup the Western Conference more with all the notable players on their team who could be dealt.

The Clippers are likely to keep adding in search of a title with their veteran-laden roster.

Nicolas Batum and Patty Mills are some older vets who could be shipped out to make the team a bit younger. There’s not many players I expect the Clippers to want to move though, and I think they are more involved in the buyout market than a trade.

The Lakers probably need a big man after the trade of Davis. I mentioned a couple guys in the Eastern Conference writeup.

Aside from Doncic and LeBron James, everyone in LA might be on the trade block as the team looks to maximize the final years of LeBron’s career.

The Nuggets are always in contention when Nikola Jokic is around. It feels like Denver needs to make a move to really be a contender though.

This is another case where outside the star player(s), Jokic, everyone else might be on the chopping block. Denver could make a big splash if it thinks it's on the outside looking in after the recent moves around the league.

The Rockets are pretty young, and if they truly think they can contend for the Western Conference title, why not go after a couple big-name players?

They have tradeable contracts too, with Jeff Green and Steven Adams, among others. I also wonder if anyone outside the young studs (Alperen Sengun, Amen Thompson) are off limits…

The Grizzlies are pretty similar in my eyes. They need more talent to truly contend, I think.

They are really young though, with only Marcus Smart over 28 years old. Brandon Clarke, Luke Kennard and John Konchar are all 28 and making at least $6 million, so they could be moveable pieces too.

Memphis could really shakeup the West too if they decide to move a star, like Ja Morant or Desmond Bane. Don’t count out anything after the Doncic, Davis trade.

The Thunder have built for years and are finally into their contending stage.

Alex Caruso and Kenrich Williams are the only two players over 26 years old - if the Thunder want to get even younger. Outside Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, all the other Thunder players could be used to go after some more firepower.

I think the team would also keep Jalen Williams or Chet Holmgren, but if adding one of them to a trade nets the Thunder a megastar, they’d probably do it.

I think we are in for the best NBA trade deadline in years, so buckle up!
