Injured Players
Let's get things started by looking at some players who are injured, and maybe out for the rest of the season.
Utah's Lauri Markkanen, who is down 3.9% to 80% overall, is dealing with a knee injury, and is expected to be re-evaluated in 7-10 days.
Looking at where we're at in the regular season, there's not much reason to keep holding on to Markkanen. Pick someone else up in redraft leagues if you are still competing.
New Orleans' CJ McCollum and Zion Williamson have been ruled out for the rest of the season with foot and back injuries, respectively.
You can safely drop those two in any redraft leagues, so you can use that roster spot on a player who is actually active.
Philadelphia's Tyrese Maxey has been ruled out for the season with a right finger tendon injury. He hasn't played since early March already, so now fantasy owners don't have to wonder if he'll return ever.
Drop Maxey in redraft leagues and target a player who could help you in the regular season's final few games.
Top-Dropped Players
Chicago's Matas Buzelis (down 7.9%), Memphis' Scotty Pippen Jr. (down 5.3%), Chicago's Kevin Huerter (down 4.4%), Toronto's Jamal Shead (down 4%), Markkanen, Orlando's Anthony Black (down 3.3%) and Milwaukee's Kevin Porter Jr. (down 3.3%) are the most-dropped fantasy players at the time of publication.
Buzelis tallied just nine points in his last game, but also added four steals, three rebounds and a block to still deliver a pretty good fantasy total. He's rostered in 51% of leagues.
I am not in favor of dropping Buzelis, even after a bit of a down showing. He plays 30+ minutes most nights, and is probably about as good a waiver wire option for standard leagues as there is out there nowadays. I'd try to scoop him up if he was dropped in my league.
Pippen is rostered in 63% of leagues. He's lost his starting role the past three games and has only tallied 31 points, six rebounds, 10 assists and two steals in that span.
Playing under half of games isn't helping his fantasy outlook, and it holds him back from being a standard league option in my eyes. I'd still want to utilize Pippen in deeper leagues, but I'd look elsewhere for standard league help.
Huerter is owned in 40% of leagues now. He's coming off a game in which he tallied 16 points, two rebounds and an assist across 33 minutes (in a start), so I'm not understanding why he's being dropped.
He's a pretty solid deep-league fantasy asset right now, and I think he should be a good 10 or so percent higher than he currently is. Those of you looking for help in deeper leagues could benefit from adding Huerter.
Shead is down to 23% rostered. He tallied nine points, five assists and a steal in 19 minutes off the bench in his last game.
That's not the best fantasy performance, but it's solid enough to keep utilizing Shead in deep fantasy leagues. In his past 10 games, Shead has racked up 110 points, 56 assists, 24 rebounds, 17 steals and three blocks.
Continuing to roster him, or dropping him for someone else, really comes down to who else is available in your league. I still like Shead as a fantasy asset, but would closely monitor the waiver wire in case a better option becomes available.
Black dropped to 28% owned today. He's scored in single digits in three straight games now.
He has 20 points, seven assists, rebounds and steals and two blocks in that span. That's simply not enough fantasy production, even in a lot of deeper fantasy leagues.
Black had scored in double figures in the four games before that, and in five of the past six overall, so I'm not ready to write him off completely. Until his production goes back up though, there's probably better fantasy options out there.
Porter is down to 31% rostered. On March 30, Porter tallied 28 points, five assists, four rebounds and one steal in nearly 23 minutes off the bench. On April 1, Porter played 17 minutes, tallying nine points, two assists and one rebound.
Those inconsistent showings are why Porter can be a waiver wire add one day, and then a drop candidate the next. He's swapped single- and double-digit scoring outings in each of the past seven contests and only hit one field goal in three of those contests.
Porter's production will probably continue to vary the rest of the season, so my best advice would be to stream him against opposing teams with weaker fantasy numbers against guards. Milwaukee being down a couple regulars could also help Porter, so watch the team's injury report too. Right now though, there's probably more consistent fantasy assets available in your deep fantasy league.
More Droppable Players
Philadelphia's Justin Edwards, LA Clippers' Bogdan Bogdanovic, Dallas' Kai Jones, Memphis' Zach Edey, Denver's Peyton Watson, Philadelphia's Jared Butler, Phoenix's Bol Bol and Atlanta's Zaccharie Risacher are all dropped between 2.3-2.9% today.
Edwards is at 73% rostered overall. Butler is at 42% owned now. With Maxey now out for the season, I'm not a huge fan of dropping Edwards or Butler.
Edwards is probably being dropped after he logged six points and two rebounds and steals in his last contest. He still played 31 minutes, and was in double figures as a scorer in the nine games before that.
I'd guess the low fantasy production game was just a blip, and that Edwards will deliver better fantasy totals in his next game. He needs to be held onto in deeper leagues, and I still think he's a good streaming option in standard leagues.
Butler had just five points, seven assists, two rebounds and one steal across 23 minutes off the bench in the team's last game. He scored in double figures in the four games before that.
Even though a five-point outing isn't great, Butler still posted pretty solid fantasy totals overall. Seeing his own percentage, I don't like the idea of dropping him. He's a step behind Edwards, but still should be rostered/utilized in a lot of deeper leagues - I'd hold back on calling him a standard league asset.
Bogdanovic is down to 63% rostered. He's had inconsistent outings of late, but went for 16 points and one rebound, assist and steal on Wednesday.
He doesn't stuff the stat sheet most nights, so I think he's a better deep-league fantasy asset. His own percentage was probably a bit too high lately, so dropping him makes sense, and is the right move if you are in a standard league.
Jones is down to 17% owned now. He only had two points and a rebound in two minutes played in his last appearance.
His playing time has dried up since Anthony Davis got back on the court, and there's no reason to roster Jones right now. If Davis is ever out again, then Jones would be a streaming option, but I think his run as a deep fantasy league option is pretty much over.
Edey sits at 69% rostered. He's coming off a game in which he had 10 points, 16 rebounds, four blocks and one assist.
I really have no clue as to why Edey is being dropped. He's been inconsistent as a fantasy player of late, but after his last game, I'd think he'd be added instead of dropped. He's a good deep-league option, and could be used as a standard league streamer too.
Watson is at 33% owned. He didn't play in the team's last game, but is likely going to be back for the next Denver game - I think he got Wednesday off after playing 45 minutes on Tuesday.
He's just a deep-league option, but he fills the stat sheet and is a pretty good fantasy option down the stretch.
Bol is down to 10% rostered. He's struggled to get on the court of late, and there's not much reason in my mind to keep rostering him in any redraft leagues.
Keep an eye on him in case Phoenix packs things in down the stretch, thus opening a ton of minutes for Bol.
Risacher is at 61% owned now. He's scored nine points in back-to-back games after a 36-point outing on March 30.
His numbers haven't been great of late, and it's made him a better deep-league option again. Keep a close eye on him in case he gets rolling again.
