Week 3 Fantasy Football: Using Predictive Adds To Determine Waiver Wire Pickups
Week 2 is in the books after last night’s Monday Night double header in which the Buffalo Bills took care of business against the Tennessee Titans and the Philadelphia Eagles manhandled the Minnesota Vikings. Stefon Diggs went nuclear with Gabe Davis out of the lineup. Meanwhile, Jalen Hurts finished with over 300 passing yards, 50+ rushing yards, and three touchdowns. Diggs and Hurts were the players of the night.

There have been several big surprises over the first two weeks of the fantasy football season including some serious injuries suffered by superstar caliber players such as Dak Prescott. Cooper Rush captured a victory in his first start of the season in Prescott’s absence and actually seemed to have some fantasy value. Another massive surprise and unsettling piece of news we received is that second-year quarterback, Trey Lance, sufferred a serious ankle injury in Week 2 and will miss the rest of the season. The San Francisco 49ers will give the starting nod to Jimmy Garoppolo.

Looking At Week 3 Fantasy Football Predictive Adds:
[predict="add-2022-3"]
QB Jared Goff, Detroit Lions
Goff has now accumulated six passing touchdowns compared to just one interception through the first two weeks of the NFL season. If you owned Dak Prescott or Trey Lance, you have to consider the veteran quarterback in Detroit after his impressive start to the season. Goff has a really strong running game at his disposal featuring D’Andre Swift and Jamaal Williams and he has some really strong weapons in the passing game. Amon-Ra St. Brown has been impossible to stop since the second half of last season. In Week 2, he caught nine balls for 116 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Plus, he turned two carries into an additional 60+ rushing yards. St. Brown is the real deal and Goff will only get better once Jameson Williams is in the lineup.
[career="Jared Goff"]
WR Noah Brown, Dallas Cowboys
With Michael Gallup still out of the lineup, Noah Brown appeared to have some real chemistry with Cooper Rush. Rush connected with Brown five times on Sunday for 91 yards and a touchdown. Brown has seen a 19.1% target share over the first two weeks of the season and is averaging more than 75 receiving yards per game. With three juicy matchups on tap against the New York Giants, Washington Commanders, and Los Angeles Rams, Brown has some serious upside potential. Fantasy owners looking for a WR3 of flex play need to look no further than Noah Brown.
WR Garrett Wilson, New York Jets
The rookie wideout should be owned in every league but if he’s somehow available on your league’s waiver wire, be sure to add him before it’s too late. Wilson went nuts in Week 2 against the Cleveland Browns, finishing with eight receptions for 102 receiving yards and two touchdowns. He also saw a team-high 14 targets from Joe Flacco. Wilson is locked and loaded as Gang Green’s WR1 and does not belong on the waiver wire at this point of time.

QB Jimmy Garoppolo, San Francisco 49ers
Trey Lance suffered a season-ending injury early on in Week 2, which means the Niners will be trotting out onto the field led by Jimmy G. Garopollo completed 61.9% of his passes on his way to 154 passing yards, one passing touchdown, and one rushing touchdown. Garoppolo is probably one of the best quarterbacks available on the waiver wire but he’s not going to win you any weeks this fantasy football season. Jimmy G is a game manager and is not the type of quarterback who is going to toss five touchdowns in a single outing. That said, he can get you between 16 and 20 fantasy points each and every week. With solid weapons at his disposal such as Deebo Samuel, George Kittle, and Brandon Aiyuk, Garoppolo should have a decent 2022 season.
RB Eno Benjamin, Arizona Cardinals
Benjamin has logged exactly 51 total yards from scrimmage in each of his first two games of the 2022 season. In Arizona’s Week 2 overtime victory over the Las Vegas Raiders, Benjamin rushed eight times for 31 yards and added three receptions for an additional 20 yards. James Conner went down with an ankle injury which meant the Cardinals were forced to rely on Benjamin and Darrel Williams. The two formed a committee and although the snaps and touches seem to be distributed evenly, it was Williams who seemed to be the first choice in short-yardage and goal-line situations. And although Benjamin saw more targets than Williams, the ex Kansas City Chiefs still snagged two short passes. Both Benjamin and Williams will need to be added in all fantasy football leagues if Conner remains out in Week 3. Both players could have serious flex appeal if Conner is unable to suit up.
WR Greg Dortch, Arizona Cardinals
After hauling in seven-of-nine targets for 63 receiving yards in Week 1, Dortch was yet again featured in the passing game with DeAndre Hopkins still serving his six-week suspension after testing positive for PEDs. The rookie didn’t see the same number of targets but he was able to corral all four of the balls thrown his way for 55 receiving yards and his first touchdown of his professional career. With Hopkins out of the lineup until Week 7, Dortch should continue to see a decent number of balls out of the slot. Marquise Brown is still the WR1 in Arizona but Dortch is getting more opportunities than I anticipated before the season. Dortch is still battling Brown, A.J. Green, and Zach Ertz for targets, but the rookie should continue to see about five targets per game.
WR Jahan Doctson, Washington Commanders
Through two weeks of the season, the rookie wide receiver has logged seven receptions for 99 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Doctson impressed in his season debut, hauling in two touchdowns in Washington’s impressive Week 1 victory. Doctson continues to be the bright light in Washington’s offense through two weeks. The passing game is clicking on all cylinders and Doctson seems to have established legitimate chimestiry with quarterback Carson Wentz. Although he is competing for targets with Terry McLaurin and Curtis Samuel, Doctson should continue to see at least five targets per game moving forward. He’s clearly one of Washington’s most dynamic playmakers.
[projection="Jahan Doctson"]
WR Sterling Shepard, New York Giants
Shepard didn’t play a huge role in New York’s Week 1 victory over the Tennessee Titans but he did catch a 65-yard touchdown. He only finished with two receptions in that game but it was clear that Shepard remained one of Daniel Jones’ most trusted target. In Week 2, Kenny Golladay wasn’t able to get any separation, Kadarius Toney continued to struggle, and Shepard remained his quarterback’s safety valve. The veteran was targeted 10 times, catching six passes for 34 yards. Until Daniel Jones is able to get on the same page as Golladay and Toney, Shepard remains the wide receiver to own in New York.
