How to Draft From the Second Overall Pick in Fantasy Football: 12-Team PPR Mock Draft
This fantasy football draft season, the second overall pick seems like an easy decision: Take Justin Jefferson if he falls, or take Ja’Marr Chase. But can it be that easy? Yes! But once that first pick is made, what are the best options for someone with the second pick? After Chase, now what?
Here’s what I did after taking Chase with the second pick in a mock using the FantasySP Mock Draft Simulator. I did a full PPR mock draft, and the lineups are 1 QB, 2 RBs, 3 WRs, 1 TE, 1 Flex, 1 K and 1 Defense. For the purposes of these mocks, I always take 1 QB, 2 RBs, 2 WRs and 1 TE on my bench. You can find the whole draft and my draft grade here.

Second Overall Pick Mock Draft Analysis
Round 1 (1.02): WR Ja’ Marr Chase, Cincinnati Bengals
Chase is the second-best overall player in the draft and I have seen him go first overall on a few occasions too. Assuming Jefferson goes first overall, don't mess around here, just take him.
Round 2 (2.11): WR Chris Olave, New Orleans Saints
Olave is my favorite second-round pick if I can land him near the end of the second like this.
Round 3 (3.02): WR DeVonta Smith, Philadelphia Eagles
He’s going right around this range, making him a great target for 1.02 drafters. A no-brainer pick in Round 3 on a terrific offense.
Round 4 (4.11): QB Justin Herbert, Los Angeles Chargers
I’ve said it all offseason: Give me Herbert or Trevor Lawrence and I am going to win a bunch of leagues.
Round 5 (5.02): TE Darren Waller, New York Giants
This is tremendous value for a player who could see his career rejuvenated in New York.
Round 6 (6.11): RB James Cook, Buffalo Bills
I am ready to die on the James Cook hill. He’s too good to not be a fantasy star.
Round 7 (7.02): RB Javonte Williams, Denver Broncos
Williams' last preseason game cemented that he is back. He could have 1,500 total yards from scrimmage and Russ loved throwing to him before he got injured.
Round 8 (8.11): RB Brian Robinson, Washington Commanders
Robinson is possibly the most underrated RB available. Washington is going to run a ton this season.
Round 9 (9.02): WR Courtland Sutton, Denver Broncos
I think Jerry Jeudy will be out for at least a month if not more, making Sutton and Marvin Mims great pics.
Round 10 (10.11): WR Elijah Moore, Cleveland Browns
He will likely be gone earlier than this in most leagues. He has plenty of talent and will finally be used properly in Cleveland.
Round 11 (11.02): QB Anthony Richardson, Indianapolis Colts
Mark my words: Richardson will play well enough in a few games that he will win someone a million dollars in DFS. That said, for seasonal purposes, he’s going to be highly inconsistent, but I'll take him as a high-upside backup.
Round 12 (12.11): RB Roschon Johnson, Chicago Bears
It would not shock me to see him win the Bears' RB1 job by November 1st.
Round 13 (13.02): RB Tyjae Spears, Tennessee Titans
Spears is a lock to see five to eight touches a week, with more possible if Derrick Henry finally slows down.
Round 14 (14.11): K Justin Tucker, Baltimore Ravens
I draft Tucker a lot in these mocks because it's hard to miss with the best kicker ever.
Round 15 (15.02): Miami Dolphins Defense
The Dolphins have a solid defense with a better pass rush than most realize plus they have a Week 10 BYE.
Round 16 (16.11): TE Irv Smith, Jr., Cincinnati Bengals
Smith was a good player in Minnesota prior to his injury. Minnesota moved on to T.J. Hockenson while Smith is now in Cincy. Playing with Joe Burrow is always good for fantasy statistics.
Final Pick 2 Mock Draft Analysis
I think I love this team. I have a top QB and TE, plus I have three tremendous receivers in PPR formats. If James Cook is as good as I think he is and if Javonte Williams can stay healthy, there are two “Os” in Roto when they write me the check!
