There were a number of rookies that excelled in week 3 and are among the most-added players heading into week 4. Denver Broncos wide receiver Marvin Mims was one of those players.

At the time of this publication, Mims is inside the top five in the list of most coveted players on the waiver wire and fantasy owners are using the second-most amount of their bid budget on him.

Let’s take a look at what has Mims rising on the fantasy radar, and then what you should be bidding to try and add him to your roster.

Marvin Mims Fantasy Football Outlook

Mims was one of the few bright spots for the Broncos in their lopsided loss to the Miami Dolphins this past Sunday. Mims was targeted five times, catching three passes for 73 yards.

The targets and catches make Mims look like a boom or bust kind of fantasy player, but the Broncos are getting him involved all over the field. He attempted one rush, with it going for 3 yards.

So while Mims was on the field for just 15 offensive snaps in week 3, he showed again he can still produce. He’s played just 48 snaps through three weeks, but has seven receptions on nine targets and 195 receiving yards already.

The rookie wideout also returns kicks for the Broncos, and he returned two kicks for 121 yards against the Dolphins. One of the returns was a 99-yard touchdown. If your league rewards individual players for returns, the return game is just an added bonus for those that want to start him going forward.

Sure, it would be great if the Broncos used Mims more frequently, but having the most receiving yards while playing the seventh-most snaps among the team’s pass catchers should only be encouraging for those wondering about Mims’ consistency long-term. At some point, you’d expect Denver to give the youngster some more snaps. Even if it’s only 30-40 snaps a game, Mims’ production should skyrocket.

With the Broncos already at 0-3, changes should be coming to both sides of the ball. I’d expect Mims to take on a larger role, starting in week 4.

In the receiver room, Mims is currently behind Jerry Jeudy and Courtland Sutton on the depth chart. He’s also played less snaps than Brandon Johnson and Lil’Jordan Humphrey.

Jeudy, Sutton and Johnson have all played pretty well so far, and Humphrey has scored once, so it’s not like Mims is sitting behind players that aren’t producing. Mims’ production in limited snaps is simply too strong to ignore though, and I think over time, the team will find ways to get him more involved.

How Much FAAB Should You Spend on Marvin Mims

FantasySP’s Fantasy Assistant tool has Mims with an Expected Waiver Interest (EWI) of 27%, tied for the fourth-highest mark as of this publication. Mims has a bid budget percentage of 14, which is the second-highest mark behind De’Von Achane.

I see that as a pretty fair number for a rookie who hasn’t been on the field all that much so far. If your league opponents don’t dive too deep into the numbers and only look at Mims’ production as a receiver and returner, then you might be able to snag him while using 10-15% of your bid budget. If you are in a league with good fantasy owners that make decisions based on deep analytics, then Mims probably is going to go for at or slightly above 20% of your budget.

I personally like Mims and believe he’s going to be fairly consistent as the season rolls along, so I’d be fine with using up to 20% of my budget on him. If I’m set at receiver and just want to stash Mims in case of injury, then I’d use roughly 10-12% of my budget on him. If I had owned Mike Williams or a receiver that started slow and needed a possible starter for each week, then I’d bump that number up to 15% or so.

The numbers, even in small quantity, are just too appealing for me to pass up. If Mims goes untouched in your league's waiver wire this week and he produces again in week 4, his bid budget number is going to jump significantly going into week 5. I say add him now and save your budget for more moves down the line.
