Fantasy Football Injury Report Week 7: Christian McCaffrey, Aaron Jones, Deebo Samuel, Deshaun Watson and More

Mark Morales-Smith Oct 21st 11:55 AM EDT.

Week 7 is almost here and there are a ton of questions surrounding a bunch of big-named players who are dealing with injuries. Here are all the latest updates on the fantasy players who may or may not be active this week.

Week 7 Injury Report

Quarterbacks

Justin Fields, Chicago Bears (Thumb)

Fields has been ruled out for Week 7 with a thumb injury and is expected to miss more games beyond this one. However, the team is optimistic he can avoid surgery and return sooner rather than later. In the meantime, Tyson Bagent will be starting for the Bears.

Jimmy Garoppolo, Las Vegas Raiders (Back)

Jimmy G has been ruled out for Week 7 and Brian Hoyer will get the start. The good news is, the injury isn't as bad as the team originally thought it might be. Hopefully, this won't be a long-term absence.

Deshaun Watson, Cleveland Browns (Shoulder)

Watson was able to do a lot more in practice this week and despite being listed as questionable is trending towards playing. As long as he's healthy, this is a big upgrade for all the Browns' pass-catchers. However, Watson did say he's not sure if his shoulder will ever be fully recovered during this season which is concerning.

Daniel Jones, New York Giants (Neck)

Jones is listed as questionable after getting in limited practices all week and is looking to be shaping up like a potential true game-time decision. Tyrod Taylor would get the start if Jones can't go.

Kyler Murray, Arizona Cardinals (Knee)

Murray returned to practice this week, but will not be activated off of injured reserve to the active roster and will not play in Week 7. This could be one of if not Joshua Dobbs's last game as a starter this season.

Running Backs

Christian McCaffrey, San Francisco 49ers (Oblique)

CMC looks to be on the wrong side of questionable, nevertheless, the Niners playing on Monday Night Football this week is further complicating the situation. All reports are a day behind and fantasy owners may have to make a decision on what they plan on doing with him by Sunday. To make matters worse, if he does sit out it's unclear whether Elijah Mitchell or Jordan Mason will lead the backfield in his absence. This situation is a mess and will continue to be unless we get unexpected clarity by Sunday morning.

David Montgomery, Detroit Lions (Ribs)

Montgomery has been ruled out for Week 7 and could be on track to miss a few weeks. Craig Reynolds is also listed as questionable with a hamstring injury and is far from a lock to play. However, Jahmyr Gibbs has been removed from the injury report and is set to handle a full workload if needed. There is still a chance the Lions end up throwing someone else out there with him to torment Gibbs's fantasy owners.

Kyren Williams, Los Angeles Rams (Ankle)

Williams has been ruled out for this week and is expected to miss multiple weeks with his ankle injury. The team also lost Ronnie Rivers last week in the same game and placed him on injured reserve. The backfield will now consist of some combination of Zach Evans, Royce Freeman, Darrell Henderson and Myles Gaskin. It is unclear how the backs will be deployed.

Aaron Jones, Green Bay Packers (Hamstring)

Jones is listed as questionable but is expected to return this week. Hamstrings are always tricky and we've already seen him return on a snap count before missing additional time. He will be a high-upside but risky start this week.

Jeff Wilson Jr., Miami Dolphins (Ribs/Finger)

Wilson is expected to make his season debut this week and form some sort of committee with Raheem Mostert upon his return. Miami also placed rookie Chris Brooks on IR this week after he suffered a serious ankle injury in Week 6.

Roschon Johnson, Chicago Bears (Concussion)

Johnson has once again been ruled out this week with a concussion which is beginning to look more concerning. There is a good chance Travis Homer returns this week to further complicate this already messy backfield.

Kareem Hunt, Cleveland Browns (Thigh)

Hunt is listed as questionable with a thigh injury for this week. He was able to get in some limited practices and is looking like he's going to give it a go on Sunday.

Zach Charbonnet, Seattle Seahawks (Hamstring)

Charbonnet was an in-week addition to the injury report with a hamstring injury which is never a good thing. He logged two DNPs and only managed to get in one limited practice. It's looking like he is trending towards sitting this one out which would leave Kenneth Walker with the backfield to himself with DeeJay Dallas perhaps seeing a few more snaps.

Damien Harris, Buffalo Bills (Neck)

Harris has been placed on IR after suffering a scary neck injury last week. This should consolidate touches in the Bills' backfield to just James Cook and Latavius Murray

Wide Receivers

DK Metcalf, Seattle Seahawks (Hip)

Metcalf is listed as a game-time decision this week with a hip injury. It sounds like he's leaning toward playing but is not a sure thing.

Diontae Johnson, Pittsburgh Steelers (Hamstring)

Johnson will be activated off of injured reserve and will return to action this week.

Deebo Samuel, San Francisco 49ers (Shoulder)

Much like CMC, Monday Night Football is making this injury more difficult for fantasy owners. It sounds like Samuel will try to play through the injury again this week, however, his performance has clearly been hindered this season from playing through injuries.

JuJu Smith-Schuster, New England Patriots (Concussion)

Smith-Schuster, along with Demario Douglas, are both trending towards returning from concussions this week, but we haven't gotten official word on either that they have cleared the protocol. There is a chance fantasy owners may have to start a Patriots' wideout this week with six teams on a bye, nevertheless, none of them will be confident starts as long as McCorkle Jones is throwing them the ball.

Tight Ends

Pat Freiermuth, Pittsbugh Steelers (Hamstring)

Freiermuth suffered a setback late in the week and now has been ruled out for Week 7. The good news is that it looks like he'll avoid IR, however, he could still miss multiple weeks.

Hunter Henry, New England Patriots (Ankle)

Henry is listed as questionable for this week and as usual, we are getting very little information out of New England in regards to whether or not he'll be able to go this week.

Greg Dulcich, Denver Broncos (Hamstring)

Dulcich has been ruled out for Week 7 with a hamstring injury.

Kylen Granson, Indianapolis Colts (Concussion)

Granson will not be able to play this week due to a concussion and has been ruled out.
