Best Fantasy Football FAAB Pickups for Shallow Leagues (10 and 12 Teams)
RB Ezekiel Elliott, New England Patriots
Starting RB Rhamondre Stevenson left the game with what looked to be an ankle injury. Although the Patriots' offense is horrible, Zeke becomes worthy of a start with an increase in snap count and touches, even in shallower leagues and especially in PPR formats. He was second on the team in targets and carried the ball 17 times. Pick up Zeke for 12-16% of your remaining budget.
RB Dameon Pierce, Houston Texans
Pierce missed nearly a month and Devin Singletary was solid as his replacement. With so many bye weeks during the past month, Pierce may have been cut in shallow leagues to make room for healthy players on rosters. He came back in Week 12 but only saw five carries for 14 yards. This past week, though, Pierce more than doubled his touches, saw more carries than Singletary, and scored a TD, which means it’s time to get him back onto your rosters. 24-28% of your remaining FAAB could get it done, although at this point in the season a bid in the 35-40% range is also acceptable.
QB Jameis Winston, New Orleans Saints
With Derek Carr leaving the game midway through the fourth quarter in Week 13 vs. the Lions, it’s possible that Winston will be the Saints' starter in Week 14 against the last-place Carolina Panthers. The Saints came up short in their comeback effort last week, but Winston has been with the Saints for a few years now and is very familiar with their personnel, so a bid of 15-20% of your remaining FAAB is fine.
RB Tyjae Spears, Tennessee Titans?
The severity of the injury is in question right now, but Titans star RB Derrick Henry left the game in Week 13 and Spears took over for him. He was great rushing the football and was involved in the screen game too, so if Henry is out for Week 14 or beyond, Spears becomes a must-add. If there’s even a chance that Henry will miss time, Spears is worth a big bid, between 28% and 32% of your remaining FAAB.
Best Fantasy Football FAAB Pickups for Deep Leagues (14 and 16 Teams)
QB Mitch Trubisky, Pittsburgh Steelers
It was just horrible timing for Kenny Pickett to get hurt when the Steelers' offense finally started to look good since the firing of Matt Canada. If he misses time, it’s Trubisky who is going to take over. In your Superflex or 2-QB leagues, he’s worth a pickup if Pickett is forced to miss any time with an ankle/leg injury. Just don’t have big expectations for Mitch, who has underwhelmed everywhere he’s ever quarterbacked since joining the NFL. Somewhere between 4-6% is all you should spend here.
QB Tommy DeVito, New York Giants
He’s led the Giants' offense better than both Daniel Jones and Tyrod Taylor have this season. Over the past few weeks, he has looked more and more comfortable. Now, because he is coming off his bye week, I like him even more. The bye week should have given him more time in this offense with his pass catchers and he should be even more in sync with them now for the remainder of the season. In Superflex leagues, 12-14% of your remaining budget is good. In 1-QB, where you’re looking for a backup, 5-8% works.
QB Joe Flacco, Cleveland Browns
I can’t even believe he’s playing in the NFL again, let alone for a team that is right in the thick of a playoff race. Still, as a current starting QB in the league, he has value in your Superflex and 2-QB leagues and has solid weapons around him, too. I like him more than both DeVito and Trubisky because of the players around him, so 15% seems like the way to go.
RB Antonio Gibson, Washington Commanders
Brian Robinson Jr. exited the Week 13 game and it led to Antonio Gibson seeing a lot more touches. He’s always been a solid pass-catching back, and now that he could see increased carries, Gibson is worthy of a pickup this week, even with the Commanders heading on their bye week. Hamstring injuries can be tricky, so there’s no telling if/when Robinson will return. Gibson is worth a bid in the 6-9% range.
