Optimal DFS Lineup for the Super Bowl Showdown Slate
We built the optimal DFS lineup for the Sunday Super Bowl Showdown and this is who went with.
With only one game being played this week, there are going to be a lot of similar-looking DFS lineups on this showdown slate. This is how we are approaching the optimal lineup. First, you have to decide on a game plan. You can't own the entire Chiefs' offense and then plug in the 49ers defense. It just doesn't make sense.
We are approaching this as if the Chiefs will win a game in which they do the majority of their damage through the air while the 49ers will look to attack the Chiefs on the ground and with the short pass. With that in mind, this is the lineup we have come up with. This lineup has a $50,000 salary cap and finishes with $500 left over. The $500 we are saving for a potential pivot that we will get into later on.
DFS Showdown Lineup
Captain
QB Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs $15,900
Our top guy is going to be Mahomes. Being a QB gives him the most upside despite him being the second-most expensive player on the slate behind Christian McCaffrey based on price relative to his position. However, it would be silly to not go with Mahomes in a game we expect the Chiefs to win by throwing the ball. This will allow us to roll with a quarterback getting bonus points as the captain of our team.
Flex
TE Travis Kelce, Kansas City Chiefs $10,200
After Mahomes, we have his favorite target Travis Kelce. He's the top red-zone option in Kansas City and has been red-hot as of late. There is no reason to believe that he won't lead the team in both targets and receptions. If he can tack on more yards than expected, there is a potential for a monster game here.
Flex
RB Christian McCaffrey, San Francisco 49ers $12,000
$12,000 is a massive price tag for a running back, but it's tough to sell a lineup without CMC in it. There is just too much value to be had and he's on the field for virtually every snap. If we believe the Niners will look to attack on the ground and with short passes, that projects a ton of touches for McCaffrey. The guy also scores a TD in almost every game he plays in. We won't be caught out in the cold while all of our opponents are piling up points with CMC all night.
Flex
WR Deebo Samuel, San Francisco 49ers $9,200
Samuel also has a ton of upside based on how the Niners use him. Not only is he their WR1, but he's also their RB2. In a game like this, he should be peppered with targets and see a handful of carries as well. He has the ability to score those tough TDs in the red zone or break a long play to find pay dirt. We love Samuel in this game and had to get him into our lineup.
Flex
WR Kadarius Toney, Kansas City Chiefs $1,400
This is where we have to start saving money. Toney hasn't played since the regular season, nevertheless, we know he has playmaking ability even if it comes along with game-losing tendencies. That's not our concern right now. Just last year in the Super Bowl we saw how valuable he could be to this team. It would make all the sense in the world to unleash him in this game with his own package or trick plays that San Francisco has never seen before. We have to pick one of these Kansas City wide receivers that both have upside and fits under our salary cap and this is where we landed. Obviously, if Toney is inactive for this game we would have to pivot. The player we'd have to go with to fit under the cap is Chiefs' WR Mecole Hardman.
Flex
FB Kyle Juszczyk, San Francisco 49ers $800
This is where we really scraped the bottom of the barrel and saved a ton of money. It's not like he never gets used though. In the NFC Championship Game, he was given one carry and three targets. He also has two TDs on the season. The hope here is that he gets a carry or two, catches a couple of passes and finds his way into the end zone. This is far from a lock, however, if he does score a TD at just $800 he can pay off in a major way.
