Key Fantasy Football Injuries Heading into Week 2: Jordan Love, De'Von Achane, Jordan Addison, Jake Ferguson and More

These are the key injuries we saw in Week 1 that could impact Week 2.

Quarterbacks

Jordan Love, Green Bay Packers (Knee)

Love went down in the closing seconds of Friday Night Football with what looked like a potentially devastating knee injury. Ultimately, he was diagnosed with an MCL sprain. While he is still expected to miss 3-6 weeks, this is one of the best possible outcomes.

Do not expect him to be available in Week 2 and the team has already announced that Malik Willis will be the starter in his absence. Willis is not a viable replacement and all of the pass catchers in Green Bay should be significantly downgraded until Love returns.

Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills (Hand)

Allen had his non-throwing hand significantly wrapped after a leaping touchdown run in which he came down to the ground hard after attempting to hurdle a defender. He is reportedly wearing a protective glove in practice this week, but has been cleared for practice and to play on Thursday Night Football against the Dolphins.

Russell Wilson, Pittsburgh Steelers (Calf)

Wilson was relegated to emergency quarterback duties in Week 1 after re-aggravating a calf injury during the week. It's not clear whether or not he was physically unable to play or if the team was being overly cautious. However, what is clear is that Justin Fields led the Steelers to a Week 1 victory and the team is preparing for Week 2 as if Fields is going to start.

This situation could get messy in a hurry. We don't know when Wilson will be able to return or if the team will want him to start when he is ready to return.

Running Backs

De'Von Achane, Miami Dolphins (Ankle)

Near the end of another big performance, Achane appeared to take a hit and injure his ankle late in the game. The extent of the injury is not yet known, but he has been estimated as a DNP on both Monday and Tuesday.

With the Dolphins playing on Thursday Night Football, he could be in danger of sitting this one out. We should know more on Wednesday, but he could end up being a game-time decision.

Raheem Mostert, Miami Dolphins (Chest)

Mostert got hurt early in the Dolphins' Week 1 opener and was used sparingly after the apparent injury, especially for the remainder of the first half. That is most likely why we saw so much Jeff Wilson after that point.

Mostert was also listed as a DNP on Monday and Tuesday to start the week and his status is unknown. If both Achane and Mostert are not able to play it could mean a ton of usage for both Wilson and rookie Jaylen Wright

Christian McCaffrey, San Francisco 49ers (Achilles)

CMC was a surprise inactive on Monday Night Football, which left a lot of fantasy owners in a tough spot. Jordan Mason slid into the starting role and was outstanding. We have since heard conflicting reports about his potential availability for Week 2.

Our best advice is to hope for the best but prepare for the worst. There is a good chance he will miss another game this weekend. Mason should be viewed as an RB1 if CMC is ruled out.

Wide Receivers

Puka Nacua, Los Angeles Rams (Knee)

Nacua went down with a knee injury on Sunday Night Football and has already been placed on injured reserve. This means he will miss at least the next four weeks and possibly more. He has been diagnosed with a PCL sprain and it is believed to be a re-aggravation of the knee injury he dealt with in the preseason.

In his absence, Demarcus Robinson is expected to step into the WR2 role, with Tyler Johnson also getting a significant boost in value. This is a rough one for fantasy owners who will have to find a way to hold on without him for at least a month.

Rome Odunze, Chicago Bears (Knee)

The Bears' first-round pick suffered an MCL sprain while blocking in Week 1 and is now considered week-to-week. Assuming he does miss time, it could be a boost for Keenan Allen and maybe even Gerald Everett, who is serving as their top tight end over Cole Kmet.

This is a tough break for a young star trying to carve out a role for himself in the NFL. Hopefully, he doesn't miss too much time and we can get a better understanding of what he has to offer and how this offense will look when whole.

Jordan Addison, Minnesota Vikings (Ankle)

Addison was forced from the season opener with a right ankle injury. It is not believed to be a major issue, but he is dealing with "significant soreness" and his status for Week 2 is currently unknown. We will have to monitor this situation throughout the week to find out if he'll be active or not on Sunday. Attempting to replace him with any other option in the Vikings' passing attack would be a risky move.

Tight Ends

David Njoku, Cleveland Browns (Ankle)

Njoku suffered what is believed to be a high-ankle sprain on Sunday and is expected to miss some time. How much time is not yet clear.

This is a brutal blow for fantasy owners as well as an already struggling Browns' passing game. The team will now have to really on Jordan Adkins as the starting tight end and has also worked out Irv Smith Jr. Neither should be considered as a waiver wire pickup to replace the ailing Njoku.

Jake Ferguson, Dallas Cowboys (Knee)

Ferguson went down with a scary looking knee injury in Week 1, but was diagnosed with just an MCL sprain. There is some optimism that he won't miss any time, but a week or two absence is still very much a possibility.

If he were to miss any games, Luke Schoonmaker would step in as the starter. The starting tight end role has proven to have value in Dallas, but we don't know if Schoonmaker is good enough to take advantage of the opportunity. He should be considered an extremely risky option.
