Week 9 Fantasy Football RB Snap & Touch Report: Are Chase Brown, Rico Dowdle and Tyrone Tracy Weekly Starters Going Forward?
Morgan takes a look at important usage numbers for fantasy football running backs coming out of Week 9.
It’s time for another backfield breakdown story, this time looking at week 9.
The only two teams not in action were the Steelers and 49ers, so there’s plenty to discuss.

Patriots
Rhamondre Stevenson dominated the Patriots’ backfield again. He got 15 touches and scored two touchdowns for a second straight week.
JaMycal Hasty and Antonio Gibson each got two touches across 10 and eight snaps, respectively. They are no more than handcuffs to Stevenson at this point.
Jets
Breece Hall got 17 touches across 44 snaps, while Braelon Allen only four touches across 17 snaps. This backfield still belongs to Hall, and while he’s a good/great starting option every week, Allen is going to cut into his workload from time to time.
Bills
James Cook got 15 touches across 36 snaps, but it didn’t lead to a huge fantasy showing.
Ray Davis had six touches across nine snaps, while Ty Johnson got three touches across 19 snaps. Cook is still the best fantasy option in Buffalo, but don’t be surprised if Davis sees more and more work after some big plays in week 9.
Dolphins
De'Von Achane had 20 touches across 42 snaps and had another big fantasy showing. He’s a must-start player at this point.
Raheem Mostert got 12 touches, but only played 14 snaps. Jaylen Wright was at six touches across nine snaps. Mostert is still a solid fantasy option with double-digit touches in each of the past three weeks, but he’d need a favorable defensive matchup to be somewhat confidently started. Watch Wright, as at some point, a sputtering Dolphins’ team could give him more looks.
Ravens
Derrick Henry powered Baltimore with 24 touches across 35 snaps. He needs to be started every week he’s playing.
Justice Hill got eight touches across 19 snaps in a blowout win. He’s a deep league PPR option, but it’d take a pretty deep setup for me to be all that confident in playing him.
Bengals
With Zack Moss out, Chase Brown dominated the backfield, getting 32 touches across 59 snaps.
Khalil Herbert could settle into the backup RB role, but I doubt he’ll eat into Brown’s workload too much going forward.
Browns
Nick Chubb played 28 snaps and got 16 touches. He had a poor fantasy showing, but is still the Cleveland back to own.
Jerome Ford only got three touches across 36 snaps, while Pierre Strong was at two touches across 12 snaps. D'Onta Foreman didn’t play. These three are just handcuffs to Chubb at this point.
Texans
Joe Mixon got 24 of the team’s 28 backfield touches in week 9. He played 44 snaps overall and is a great starting option every week.
With Dameon Pierce out again, Dare Ogunbowale played 29 snaps, while J.J. Taylor got only six. Taylor had three touches to one for Ogunbowale. No other RB will be fantasy relevant unless Mixon misses time.
Titans
Tony Pollard got 31 of the 36 backfield touches and played 66 snaps. He’s a great weekly starting option right now.
Tyjae Spears missed the game, so Julius Chestnut got five touches across 13 snaps as the top backup. Spears will probably retake the backup role when he’s healthy, but there’s a chance the Titans still use Chestnut, and that could negatively impact Pollard.
Colts
Jonathan Taylor didn’t have a good fantasy day, but he got 16 touches and 39 snaps in week 9. He’s a weekly starter.
Trey Sermon got the remaining three backfield touches across his 14 snaps, while Tyler Goodson was at just one snap. They’ll only become relevant if Taylor is hurt again.
Jaguars
Tank Bigsby led a muddled backfield with eight touches across 28 snaps. Travis Etienne returned from injury and got five touches across 17 snaps, while D'Ernest Johnson was at two touches across 13 snaps.
I still like Bigsby the best of the three RBs, but if they are going to continue splitting touches/snaps, none of them are great fantasy options.
Broncos
Javonte Williams got 14 touches across 39 snaps, while Jaleel McLaughlin had eight touches across 23 snaps. Audric Estime was at five touches across seven snaps.
This is another confusing backfield, and one to try to avoid in tough and even average matchups.
Chiefs
Kareem Hunt dominated the backfield, getting 28 of the 36 touches across his 49 snaps played. He’s a weekly starter until Isiah Pacheco is ready to return.
Samaje Perine scored a touchdown across his five touches and 24 snaps, while Carson Steele was at three touches across 14 snaps. Perine has some deep-league starting appeal in PPR formats, but he’s a risky play with so few touches per game.
Raiders
Alexander Mattison led another muddled backfield with nine touches across 23 snaps. Ameer Abdullah played 30 snaps and got seven touches, while Zamir White played seven snaps and got two touches.
This is another backfield to avoid for now, probably even in deeper leagues.
Chargers
J.K. Dobbins had a good fantasy showing across 16 touches and 42 snaps. He’s a pretty solid weekly starting option.
Kimani Vidal got five touches across 11 snaps. He’s a handcuff to Dobbins outside extremely favorable matchups.
Eagles
Saquon Barkley got 30 touches across 57 snaps and needs to be starting every week. Kenneth Gainwell, who had six touches across 22 snaps, is just a handcuff.
Cowboys
With Ezekiel Elliott inactive, Rico Dowdle got 17 touches across 55 snaps. Dalvin Cook only had two touches on seven snaps.
If Elliott remains sidelined, Dowdle is a pretty solid starting option, especially with Dak Prescott out now with an injury.
Giants
Tyrone Tracy had 17 touches across 47 snaps, while Devin Singletary only had 18 snaps and seven touches.
This is Tracy’s backfield now, and Singletary is only worth starting in deeper leagues against super favorable defenses.
Commanders
Austin Ekeler had 14 touches across 29 snaps, Chris Rodriguez had 11 touches across 20 snaps and Jeremy McNichols had eight touches across 24 snaps. Brian Johnson missed the game with an injury.
This backfield is another mess, but as parts of an overall good offense, anyone who gets double-digit touches can be a decent fantasy option.
Vikings
Aaron Jones got 25 touches across 55 snaps and looks to be a good/great weekly starting option depending on the matchup.
Cam Akers took the backup role away from Ty Chandler. Akers had eight touches across 16 snaps and looks to now be the handcuff to Chandler.
Packers
Josh Jacobs got 15 touches across 36 snaps, but lost five touches to Chris Brooks (17 snaps) and Emanuel Wilson (13 snaps).
Jacobs is still a good weekly starting option, but his ceiling is capped by Brooks and Wilson. Those two are desperation plays in deeper leagues, but just handcuffs in standard leagues.
Bears
D'Andre Swift got 22 of the 27 backfield touches across his 46 snaps. He’s a pretty solid weekly starting option.
Roschon Johnson got the other five touches across his 28 snaps. He’s a handcuff to Swift and a deep-league starting option in really favorable matchups.
Lions
David Montgomery got 20 touches across 32 snaps, while Jahmyr Gibbs was at 12 touches in his 22 snaps played. Both remain good weekly starting options in all formats.
Falcons
Bijan Robinson got 26 touches to just six for Tyler Allgeier. Robinson played 42 snaps to only 14 for Allgeier.
Robinson should be starting every week, while Allgeier is a deep-league option, but one who could start in standard leagues when the matchup is right.
Buccaneers
Bucky Irving got 10 touches across his 19 snaps while playing through an injury. Rachaad White had six touches across 34 snaps, while Sean Tucker was at four touches across seven snaps.
Irving looks to be the leader in the ground game, but White might still be the best fantasy option, especially with Irving banged up. Tucker is only a desperation starting option in really deep leagues.
Panthers
Chuba Hubbard got 17 touches across 42 snaps. With Jonathon Brooks expected back this week, Hubbard might not be quite as involved.
Miles Sanders, who got four touches across 12 snaps in week 9, might lose his role when Brooks is active.
Saints
Alvin Kamara dominated the backfield, getting 35 touches across 61 snaps. Keep starting him every week.
With Jamaal Williams and Kendre Miller out, Jordan Mims got the backup touches.
Rams
Kyren Williams got 23 of the 24 touches and played 76 snaps. He should be starting every week.
Blake Corum got the other touch on his only snap played.
Seahawks
Kenneth Walker had 28 touches across 61 snaps, while Zach Charbonnet was at four touches across 20 snaps.
Walker is a good weekly starting option, while Charbonnet has a little deep league appeal in the right matchups.
Cardinals
James Conner had 21 touches across 28 snaps played. He’s a good weekly starting option, although he lost 15 touches to Trey Benson (nine touches across 16 snaps) and Emari Demercado (six touches across 14 snaps).
Benson and Demercado could be started in deeper leagues in favorable matchups, and could start cutting into Conner’s workload.
