Thursday Night Football Week 14: Green Bay Packers @ Detroit Lions NFL Best Bets and Top Props
It's Week 14 and we kick off the week with another great Thursday Night Football game.
Usually, when we start these Thursday Night Football articles, we recap the previous week's game. We aren't going to do that being that we covered four games because of the holiday. However, we will let you know that we picked the winner of every game correctly.
This week, we have two of the winning teams from the Thanksgiving Day games facing off in an NFC North showdown when the Green Bay Packers try to steal a game on the road against the Detroit Lions. This has been the best division in football and, in our opinion, these are the two best teams in the division.
The Packers need this win to stay in the race for the division, while a loss can make it difficult for them to climb out of third place. This should be a fun one and is certainly a meaningful one.
NFL Best Bets Week 14
The Lions have been the best team in the league this season and our Power Rankings have reflected that. Their offense has been dominant and their defense has been outstanding. However, injuries continue to mount on their defense, which could eventually take a serious toll on their performance. It's just a matter of whether or not the Packers' offense led by Jordan Love and Josh Jacobs can take advantage and give them the edge in this game.
The Lions' offense is loaded with fantasy stars. Jared Goff is usually a solid option at quarterback while his weapons are the standouts in the passing game. Amon-Ra St. Brown is the superstar, but Jameson Williams and Sam LaPorta have both shown incredible upside quite a few times. The real bread and butter of this team though is their rushing attack. The two-headed monster of Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery has been virtually unstoppable.
The Green Bay offense isn't nearly as flashy, but still has plenty of fantasy relevance. Love has been a bit up and down this season, but continues to have impressive touchdown efficiency. Jacobs, even when he's not overly efficient, is still a valuable fantasy asset based on pure volume every single week. Jayden Reed has stepped up as the true WR1, while all the other options in the passing attack have been hit or miss. It's hard to predict who will step up as the second option from week to week.
Both these defenses will have plenty to deal with though and we expect the offenses to have the edge. It should be a big night for bettors and fantasy owners.
The Picks
Spread: Green Bay Packers +3.5 (-115)
Over/Under: Over 51.5 (-108)
Moneyline: Detroit Lions (-170)
Player Props of the Night
Prop #1: David Montgomery, Anytime TD (-165)
With 11 touchdowns in 12 games, Montgomery is almost a lock for a TD each week. He may lack the flash and explosion that Gibbs provides, but he has an undeniable nose for the end zone. He has scored in all but three games this season. One of those games did happen to come against the Packers. We expect him to right that wrong in this game and put on a show for his home crowd.
Prop #2: Josh Jacobs, Under 71.5 Rushing Yards (+105)
There are two pieces to this prediction. We will start with the matchup. The Lions have a dominant run defense and have allowed the third-fewest rushing yards to running backs this season, with just a total of 795 yards. That's just 66 yards per game. Running backs simply don't get it done against them. However, there is another issue that is really concerning. Jacobs has been overworked - not just this year, but over the past few seasons. He had been dealing with a calf injury leading up to this game and that's an injury that can pop back up in a hurry. Between the bad matchup and a lingering calf injury, we love the under here.
Prop #3: Amon-Ra St. Brown, Over 6.5 Receptions (-110)
St. Brown is a PPR machine and has a great matchup this week. The matchup is so favorable because the Packers' top corner Jaire Alexander has already been ruled out for this game. We aren't so sure there is any corner that he can't get the best of, but you certainly don't want to face him without your top guy. He comes into this game fourth in the league with 76 receptions and he will finish the night with the league lead.
