Week 17 Fantasy Football Who Should I Start? DK Metcalf, Keenan Allen and D.J. Moore vs. Jauan Jennings, Deebo Samuel and More
Analyzing more Thursday night players in trending start/sit decisions.
The biggest trending player going into Thursday night was Seattle’s Zach Charbonnet. After covering him in a running back article, there’s some wide receivers from Thursday’s game that we need to talk about.
We’ll discuss Seattle’s DK Metcalf and Chicago’s Keenan Allen and D.J. Moore against a few other receivers.
If you also have Metcalf, Allen or Moore, but are debating them against other players, make sure to use the FantasySP start/sit tool as a guide. Best of luck this week!

Fantasy Outlooks for DK Metcalf, D.J. Moore and Keenan Allen
Let me start this section off by saying I discussed these three wideouts, and other fantasy options, in the Thursday night starting options story.
Metcalf is averaging 13.1 PPR fantasy points per game this season. He scored 14.1 points last week, which was his first time in double digits in three weeks. Metcalf hasn’t scored over 14 fantasy points in a game since returning from a two-game absence.
Metcalf is projected for 13 PPR points. He takes on the Bears on Thursday night, which is a very tough matchup on paper.
Allen is averaging 13.3 PPR points per week after a hot streak. He’s been over 20 PPR points in four of the past five games. Allen has 13 targets in back-to-back games, and has scored five touchdowns over the past five games.
Allen is projected for 14 points in week 17. His and Allen’s test against the Seahawks is a slightly above-average matchup for a fantasy wideout.
Moore has scored in double figures in five straight games. He’s been at or below 15 points over the past three weeks. Moore, who has 18 targets over the past two games, is projected for 15 points.
Other Receivers in Trending Decisions
Metcalf is part of trending decisions with Adam Thielen and Jakobi Meyers. Allen is in decisions with Deebo Samuel Sr. and Jauan Jennings, while Moore goes up against Jennings and Jordan Addison.
Thielen has played in eight games this season and is averaging 12.8 PPR points per game. He had 15.3 points last week, and has 8.7 or more since getting back on the field five weeks ago.
He takes on the Buccaneers, who are a very favorable matchup. He had 99 yards and a score on eight receptions and 10 targets when the teams met back in week 13. Thielen is projected for 15 points.
Fantasy owners prefer Metcalf over Thielen, but it’s pretty close. If you are all about playing matchups, then Thielen is your guy.
I prefer Thielen over Metcalf this week. Thielen has been the better fantasy performer over the past several weeks, and the matchup favors him too.
Meyers is averaging 13.4 points per game this season. He only had 6.1 last week, but was in double figures the previous four games before that.
He’s got a favorable clash against the Saints this week. Meyers is projected for 15 PPR points.
Metcalf is still favored over Meyers by fantasy owners. Again, if you are playing matchups, then Meyers is the one you’d want to try.
I also prefer Meyers this week. I feel each are risky options as fantasy starters, so I’d give the guy with the more favorable matchup the nod, and that’s Meyers.
I think my biggest takeaway with the Metcalf decisions is that he’s being overrated a bit because of his name. He hasn’t been very good of late, and this matchup doesn’t help him out any.
Samuel scored 25.1 points last week, raising his per-week average to just 10.3. He was under 6.5 points in five straight games coming into last week.
Jennings tallied 9.1 fantasy points last week, which was an improvement on his 5.1-point outing the week prior. He has one double-digit performance over the past five games.
Jennings and Samuel take on the Lions on Monday night. They have one of the most favorable matchups in the league. Jennings is projected for 17 PPR points, while Samuel is at 15.
Fantasy owners prefer Samuel over Allen this week. Both have really favorable matchups, but based on how each guy has performed of late, I’d prefer to start Allen over Samuel.
Fantasy owners like Moore over Jennings. In another decision, owners like Jennings over Allen. I also like Moore over Jennings, and would also take Allen over Jennings. I just think the Bears’ offense is likely to keep passing a bunch, and I trust that to happen more than Jennings to score more fantasy points.
Addison is averaging 14.8 PPR points per game this season. He’s been at 13.3 or more in three straight, and has hit that mark in five of the past six contests.
Addison is projected for 15 points in a clash with the Packers. Green Bay is a very tough matchup on fantasy wideouts.
Fantasy owners like Moore over Addison this week. I agree with the majority, again wanting to take advantage of the more favorable matchup.
A lot of these are really close decisions in my eyes, and things could go either way. It comes down to how you judge players at the most critical time of the fantasy season. I try to take everything into account, but you need to do what makes you feel most confident.
