Super Bowl LIX Prop Bet Expert Picks: Saquon Barkley, Xavier Worthy, Dallas Goedert and More
The experts at FantasySP answer a handful of questions in preparation for this week's Super Bowl.
We are in the final week of NFL football before a long offseason. Watching the Super Bowl is fun, but it’s also the biggest betting event of the season. That includes the score and winner of the game but expands to so much more.
There are countless other things people can bet on, from individual player stats to the coin flip to things related to the national anthem and halftime show. Sites like FanDuel offer plenty of options for both fans and those who are tuning into the season for the first time.
To help you get in the mood, the experts at FantasySP looked at just a few of the many bets. Morgan Rode, Mark Morales-Smith, and Daniel Hepner answered five questions about Super Bowl LIX.
What is your favorite individual player prop bet?
Morgan: I like Xavier Worthy to go over 40 receiving yards. He’s hit that mark in nine straight games. If you really like Worthy in this one, taking him to go over 50, 60 and more yards could help you get even more bang for your buck. Taking a total yard prop with Worthy could be even better, as he gets a couple rushing attempts per game.
Mark: Every playoff game for a few years now I’ve bet Patrick Mahomes’ over in rushing yards. HIs rushing totals spike in the playoffs. He hit last week, and he’ll top his 29.5 O/U again this week.
Daniel: Saquon Barkley over 125 receiving + rushing yards (-125). Barkley has averaged 159 total yards in the three playoff games; he averaged 130.2 during the season. Kansas City has a good defense, but Barkley has been the story of the season. I’m not ready to start betting against him at the biggest time.
What is your favorite prop bet not related to the actual game (so the coin flip, anthem, halftime show, etc.)?
Morgan: Why not start the fun before the game even kicks off. Tails never fails. Lock it in!
Mark: I like to go with the Gatorade color, although my absolute favorite odd prop is betting on a kicker to doink the ball off the goal post.
Daniel: Travis Kelce to NOT propose to Taylor Swift after the game (-1500). He’s gotta be smarter than that, right?
Who outside of the main contributors might score a touchdown in this one?
Morgan: JuJu Smith-Schuster. He’s scored just twice this season but made two big catches for 60 yards in the AFC Championship Game. He’s as good a bet to score a touchdown as just about any other Kansas City offensive player in what’s been a team-first approach.
Mark: Samaje Perine could take some sort of flip pass in for a short TD. They haven’t been using him much as of late, but historically, they love using their pass-catching backs down near the end zone.
Daniel: The Eagles’ tight ends have a great matchup here. Kansas City gave up the fifth-most receptions to tight ends, the most receiving yards, and the sixth-most fantasy points per game. Dallas Goedert is the most likely guy to be able to take advantage, though Grant Calcaterra is also there in a backup role.
Outside of Patrick Mahomes, Jalen Hurts, and Saquon Barkley, who do you like to emerge as the potential MVP of the game?
Morgan: I’ll go with Worthy again. A good way to win MVP if you aren’t a star is to stand out in several areas. If Worthy can catch at least one touchdown, run for another and have 100+ total yards, he could easily win MVP.
Mark: It would have to be Travis Kelce, right? He may have lost a step but is still great in the biggest moments.
Daniel: One of Philadelphia’s pass catchers. I mentioned the tight ends above, and if Goedert can score a touchdown, maybe in a low-scoring game, he would look pretty good for this honor.
Give us your pick for Super Bowl LIX.
Morgan: I have the Chiefs topping the Eagles 27-24. The game will be close in the first half before Philly takes the lead in the second half. Kansas City will tie the game in the fourth quarter, get a big defensive stop and then kick a game-winning field goal as time expires.
Mark: I’m not betting against Mahomes. I’ll take the Chiefs 24-20.
Daniel: It seems right to take the Chiefs in a close win since that’s been the theme of the season. Philadelphia’s roster is so good, though, and they dominate running the ball, allowing them to control the flow. I’ll go with the Eagles 23-17 in a more defensive affair.
