Bo Nix on throws over 10 air yards: 2-for-12 for 42 yards and 2 picks

Marvin Mims only played 12 snaps (17%) today and dreams of a Year 2 breakout are all but dead.

It's early, but Devaughn Vele is running ahead of Marvin Mims as Denver's No. 3 WR. Sutton and Reynolds are the 1-2 out of the gate.

Yikes. Bo Nix’s debut got off to a rough start and didn’t improve much as the afternoon progressed. He threw for just 67 yards in the first half, had one interception and four others that easily could have been, too. Nix didn’t wow with an array of big plays in training camp and the preseason, but he did do a good job of protecting the ball. Seattle’s defense had him out of sorts from the start.

Every time Denver’s run game started to get going, head coach Sean Payton seemed to get away from it. But fumbles by Audric Estime (recovered by Denver) and Jaleel McLaughlin (lost in the third quarter) certainly didn’t help any attempts at controlling the flow of the game

Initial thoughts from the Broncos’ loss to the Seattle Seahawks in Week 1 at Lumen Field in Bo Nix’s professional debut:

Dropping the ball: Think Bo Nix misses Tim Patrick? While it would be silly to pin the Broncos’ passing game struggles on the decision to waive the oft-injured wide receiver, it sure didn’t look great early on when Lil’Jordan Humphrey and Courtland Sutton dropped catchable third-down passes in the first half. Nix and Patrick memorably showed some chemistry working with one another during the preseason. After one game, the rookie quarterback didn’t find that guy (Josh Reynolds?) until it was too late. The question is how long it will take for that to show up for an entire game

Highlight: There were few pretty moments. But in the closing seconds of the second quarter, Nix completed a 25-yard pass near the sideline to wide receiver Josh Reynolds. In what was Nix’s best throw of the afternoon, helping set up a 45-yard field goal by kicker Wil Lutz. Nix showcased his legs in the fourth quarter when he scrambled to the right, pump-faked and spun into the end zone for a 4-yard touchdown with 2:09 left in regulation
