LEADER: Drake Maye gives credit to his defense immediately when he gets to the podium: "Phones down, phone's down. Notepads down. We're clapping up the defense. Clap it up, clap it up. Somebody else clap up. There we go." The #Patriots have a STUD. pic.x.com/zEQAXQDxbZ

I asked Patriots safety Jaylinn Hawkins if he noticed any tendencies throughout the week when preparing for this Bears offense. "There was a couple of tendencies. They do the no-huddle. They go check with me, a couple of stuff like that. Certain players in certain positions, alert, you know. Some third downs nuggets, you know. Stuff like that. Every week you have those, some cadences and stuff like that, some tendencies, but those are some of the stuff we picked up on and we just studied."
I asked Patriots cornerback Isaiah Bolden what it was like preparing for the #Bears throughout the week. In his answer, he mentioned that the team "saw tendencies." I followed up by asking if it was apparent what offensive coordinator Shane Waldron was doing with his playmakers. Here is what Bolden said. "The coaches they worked their butts off by showing us the tendencies such as like ball disruption, how to carry the ball. Different where they might use, you know as well as, what's the word I'm looking for, how they line up. Stuff like that, so our coaches do a great job of like giving us information and it makes us play faster and process it."
The Patriots benched Kendrick Bourne today. He didn't play a single snap.
Ja'Lynn Polk leaks into the flat after engaging LB TJ Edwards, and beats both Edwards and Tyrique Stevenson (see Hail Mary against the Commanders) to the pylon. 10-3, Patriots.
Mike Onwenu, who said he needs to be better, just got beat on 3rd & 5. Maye sacked. 3-and-out.
Good luck trying to block Keion White in a one-on-one situation.
In fact, the New England Patriots standout defender doesn’t believe there’s a single offensive guard in the NFL capable of blocking him one-on-one.
It’s hard to argue with that point after seeing him and the rest of the Patriots’ defensive front run roughshod over the Chicago Bears on Sunday. White finished the game with four tackles, one pass deflection, one sack, two tackles for a loss and two quarterback hits.
“I don’t think there’s a guard in the league who can block me 1-on-1,” White said, via Patriots.com’s Evan Lazar
The New England Patriots and Chicago Bears have released their list of inactives ahead of Sunday’s game.
Patriots veteran wide receiver K.J. Osborn is set to make his return after being deemed inactive in last week’s game against the Tennessee Titans.
There was a belief that Osborn being held out of the game could be due to him potentially being traded ahead of the trade deadline. However, no such move came to fruition, and the Patriots will once again lean on his experience in hopes of getting the offense headed in the right direction
New England Patriots safety Kyle Dugger has missed the last two games with the ankle injury he suffered back in September. His absence has been notable on a defense that is missing several key players.
Some have wondered if his season could potentially be in jeopardy. That question was posed on Friday afternoon with coach Jerod Mayo updating his availability.
Here’s a breakdown of where things stand in that regard, as well as the other options the Patriots have at the safety position:
Dugger went down with an ankle injury in Week 4 against the San Francisco 49ers. He has missed four out of the last six games since that contest. The injury proved to be a problem again this week, as he missed the entire week of practice

Bears score 3 points at home against the Patriots and none of Keenan Allen, DJ Moore, Rome Odunze, Cole Kmet or D'Andre Swift reached 45 receiving yards. Disaster of a passing game (again).
Teven Jenkins is down. Which means the #Bears will be playing with backups at every OL position but center.

Bears inactives for today's game against the Patriots: - Jaquan Brisker - Ameer Speed - Noah Sewell - Darrell Taylor - Darnell Wright - Nate Davis - Braxton Jones - Kiran Amegadjie The #Bears are thin on the offensive line with Davis out. The O-line will be out here soon so we can see what the lineup will look like. With Taylor out, I expect more snaps for Jacob Martin. He played 15 snaps against the Commanders and 16 snaps against the Cardinals. Martin has had some good pass-rush snaps when he has played.

Three keys for the Bears to win Sunday’s home game against the 2-7 Patriots: Stop the runThe Bears are coming off their worst game against the run in the last two years. They allowed 213 rushing yards to the Cardinals — 45 more than at any other point since the start of the 2023 season. The second-most rushing yards they’ve given up? The week before against the Commanders.Losing nose tackle Andrew Billings to a season-ending pec injury adds a whole new set of problems.Take a leadThe Bears have led for just 25 seconds over the past two games — the final seconds before they gave up a Hail Mary to the Commanders to lose. That’s what happens when you’re the worst first-quarter team in America. No NFL team has fewer yards, touchdowns, first downs or yards per attempt than the Bears do in the first frame. The Bears need to start hot. Or at least not ice cold. A rude rookie welcomeThe last time the Bears played a rookie quarterback, they held Jayden Daniels to 12 points —until he threw a 52-yard Hail Mary to win the game. They need to treat Patriots quarterback Drake Maye even more harshly Sunday. The No. 3 overall pick is 1-3 as a starter, completing 82-of-125 passes for 770 yards, six touchdowns, four interceptions and an 85.1 passer rating.
Ryan Poles’ trade with the Panthers for DJ Moore and eventually quarterback Caleb Williams and offensive tackle Darnell Wright — a gift that is literally still giving — was a masterstroke that earned the Bears’ first-time general manager a ton of goodwill and credibility that has insulated him from issues the Bears have had this season. But that cushion is dissipating by the minute. And after the Bears’ hit a disheartening, discouraging low in a 19-3 loss to the Patriots on Sunday at So
The Bears are down to one starting offensive lineman in his original position against the Patriots after left guard Teven Jenkins left with an ankle injury in the second quarter. He went to the locker room, and the Bears ruled him out for the game early in the third quarter. As they approach halftime, only center Coleman Shelton was intact from the Bears' first-string offensive line configuration, though guard Matt Pryor is filling in at right tackle because of Darnell Wright's knee injury. The Bears already were down left tackle Braxton Jones, and now Doug Kramer replaced Jenkins.Durability has been an ongoing concern for Jenkins, who has appeared in every game but left at least three with injuries. The Bears are playing veteran Ryan Bates at right guard after activating him from injured reserve Saturday. If Jenkins is out, their only remaining offensive lineman is practice squad call-up Jake Curhan. Curhan played for Wright last week against the Cardinals.Guard Nate Davis was scratched hours before kickoff because of a back injury. He had not been on the injury report all week.
