Tatsuya Imai's Mechanical Tweak Sparks an Encouraging Turnaround in Houston

After struggling to adjust to his new environment, the 28-year-old righty has found his footing, pitching to a brilliant 2.12 ERA and 1.00 WHIP over his last three outings. He currently slots in as the fifth starter for a fourth-place Houston Astros team (30-37) that desperately needs him with Hunter Brown and Cristian Javier on the injured list. His resurgence was highlighted by a combined no-hit performance in late May following a shift in his fastball grip.

While Imai's career 5.50 ERA across eight big-league appearances looks scary, his recent adjustments suggest he is beating those early struggles. Our models project a much stronger rest-of-season outlook with a 3.85 ERA and 1.23 WHIP over 159.0 innings. The improved downward action on his newly adjusted four-seamer and sinker makes this breakout feel far more legitimate than a simple hot streak.

Imai is scheduled for a single start this week on June 12 against the fourth-place Kansas City Royals. He will match up against Luinder Avila, who has struggled with a 4.02 ERA and a high 1.60 WHIP this season. Given Imai's excellent current form and a favorable opponent, he represents an outstanding weekly option. Verdict: Stream.
