Week 4 Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Pickup: Harold Ramirez Entering His Prime!

Ismail Albiz Apr 24th 10:55 PM EDT.

With a win over the White Sox Sunday at Tropicana Field, the Rays established a franchise record for most consecutive wins at home at any point in a season. They have also tied the record for the best home record in professional baseball in the last decade and a half.

More importantly, the 48 home runs they have hit lead the league, and they have hit one in every single game so far this season. With such a formidable start, they have put the rest of the league on notice. This week they open up a three-game set against the Houston Astros at home.

While the team is getting stellar defense and sound pitching, it is the timely hitting they have been getting that is allowing them to stay ahead of other teams in the league. One catalyst on offense has been Harold Ramirez. The 28-year-old outfielder seems to be hitting his prime in his fourth season of professional baseball. While this is only his fourth season of professional baseball, he did spend quite some time in the minor league systems of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Toronto Blue Jays.

While he was able to make some significant progress throughout their minor league systems, he was not able to earn a promotion to the MLB roster. However, he was finally able to make his league debut after being traded to the Miami Marlins. In his big league debut in 2019, he singled off Edwin Diaz for his first-ever MLB hit. Following his stint with the Marlins, Ramirez was involved in a few other moves, he was claimed by the Guardians of Waivers. For the Guardians, in 99 games he had a batting average of .268 with 41 RBIs. He was then traded to the Chicago Cubs, who then traded him to the Tampa Bay Rays which is where he seems to have found his home in the majors.

Last season, Ramirez enjoyed his coming out party as he become a regular at the pro level. More importantly, he was able to silence his doubters and his critics who believed that his potential would only be to hit for average, and have trouble sticking around as an everyday player. That appears to be the case, as in 2022, in his age 27 seasons, he was able to suit up for 120 games and hit for an average of .300 with 6 home runs and 58 RBIs in 403 at-bats.

This season he seems to be entering his prime. That appears to be the case, as not only is he increasing his stock on the field, but is also increasing his ownership in fantasy leagues. This season he is owned at 40% in Yahoo leagues. More importantly, he is known for his rocket arm in the outfield and his versatility on defense as he can play in any of the outfield positions as well as first base.

At the dish, he seems to be showing off his power and putting his exit velocities to good use. He currently has an average of .373 with 5 home runs and 10 RBI. Also, he is currently on a 9 game-hitting streak.

Finally, Ramirez is bursting with confidence he is set to establish career highs in home runs and RBIs this season. Also, his high quality of contact is not only going to result in a batting average but also an increased number of home runs as well as RBIs. That appears to be the case, as he seems to have figured out how to elevate the ball with a better exit velocity while swinging for the fences!
