It’s time to continue our series of looking at how every MLB team’s top 10 prospects are faring in the minor leagues.

We have covered the Chicago Cubs and New York Mets and are now going to tackle the Colorado Rockies.

Rockies’ Top Prospects

Colorado’s top prospect is Chase Dollander. He’s a 22-year-old right-handed pitcher who was drafted ninth overall in the 2023 MLB Draft.

Dollander is pitching for the organization’s High-A team this year in his first minor league action. In 13 starts, Dollander has a 4-1 record, 2.82 earned run average and 102 strikeouts over 67 innings pitched. Opponents are hitting .230 against him, and Dollander has a 1.25 WHIP figure.

Dollander has a 65-grade fastball and 60-grade slider. He’s also got a 55-grade changeup and 50-grade curveball, along with a 50 for his control.

Any pitching prospect in the Colorado organization gets knocked down a few pegs because of the home park they play in. The team is hoping he turns into an ace, but again, fantasy owners need to set reasonable expectations for a Colorado pitcher.

He could be a quick riser in the minor leagues if he continues to excel, but I think the earliest we see Dollander in the big leagues is the end of the 2025 season, and more likely at some point in the 2026 season.

Adael Amador is the team’s No. 2 prospect. He’s a 21-year-old who is playing in Double-A, but who has also already made his MLB debut.

The middle infielder played 10 games earlier this season for the Rockies, posting a .171 average and .194 on-base percentage along the way. He only struck out six times in 35 at-bats, but he clearly needs some more minor league seasoning.

Amador has also struggled in AA, sitting with a .188 average and .328 OBP this season. He’s a career .273 hitter with a .388 OBP in the minor leagues despite this year’s struggles, so I wouldn’t get too worried about his numbers this season.

The Rockies thought enough of Amador to call him up already, and he could get more MLB seasoning later this season when the team decides to see what they got for the future.

Jordan Beck is the team’s No. 3 prospect and currently playing in the big leagues. He’s 23 years old and was the 38th overall pick back in 2022.

In 23 MLB games this season, Beck has a .190 average and .198 OBP. He’s struck out 30 times in 79 at-bats, while having six extra-base hits among his 15 total knocks.

Beck is a .280 career hitter in the minor leagues - he gets on base at a .380 clip. He’s got some power and speed to burn, but strikeouts are a problem.

I wouldn’t react too quickly after seeing Beck’s numbers at the MLB level. He’s shown to be a solid hitter in the minor leagues, and with some pop and speed, should be able to offset some strikeout issues.

While Beck might not be playable in fantasy leagues right now, the MLB experience this season could prove huge for him down the line. If dynasty leagues, I’d just hold tight on Beck, or see if you can buy low on him.

Yanquiel Fernandez is the team’s No. 4 prospect. He’s a 21-year-old outfielder playing in Double-A right now. He was signed by Colorado in 2019.

He’s known for his power and arm, while being graded as a below-average hitter and runner. Fernandez has a .282 average and .338 OBP in parts of four minor league seasons, and has displayed plenty of power. Strikeouts are a big issue with him too, but he’s only got 51 in 69 games this season - after averaging more than a K a game the past two years.

I’m a little surprised Fernandez is still in AA, after also spending some time there last season. He should make the jump to Triple-A at some point, and I think there’s a small chance he makes his MLB debut at some point this season.

He’s a prospect I’ve targeted in a couple leagues and think his overall ranking could jump quite a bit next season. If you want to add Fernandez, do it before his stock goes up even more.

Zac Veen is the team’s No. 5 prospect. He’s a 22-year-old outfielder also in Double-A. He was taken with the ninth pick in the 2020 MLB Draft.

He’s got a career .267 average and .365 OBP in the minor leagues, but has a .328 average and .430 OBP across 36 games this season. Veen has a little pop, but is most known for his speed. He’s also got a bit of a strikeout problem.

If he can continue to find ways to get on base, Veen can use his speed to offset a lack of a big power boost. He appears ready to move on to Triple-A soon and has an outside chance at the big leagues before the end of the season. It’s probably more likely he debuts in 2025.

Sterlin Thompson is a first baseman and outfielder playing in Double-A. He was the 31st overall pick in the 2022 draft and is 23 years old.

He’s got a 55 for his hit tool, while being a below-average runner and power hitter. Thompson has shown a little pop in the minors, along with a career .275 average and .350 OBP.

Thompson is hitting just .242 and getting on at a .315 clip this season, so while some have him as a late-season call up, I think it’s more likely he gets his first crack at the big leagues next season. He’s the Rockies’ first prospect in this story so far who is not listed inside the top 100, but might be worth a roster spot in some deeper dynasty leagues.

Dyan Jorge is a 21-year-old shortstop playing in High-A. He was signed by the team in 2022 and has an ETA of 2026.

In parts of three minor league seasons, Jorge has a .301 average and .376 OBP. He doesn’t have much power, but can swipe plenty of bases. Jorge doesn’t strike out too much, so the lack of power isn’t a huge deal.

Jorge is still a couple years off from playing in the MLB, but is a player to watch considering his strong average and OBP in the minors.

Cole Carrigg is the team’s No. 8 prospect. He can play the outfield, shortstop and catcher, which is a huge plus. He’s 22 years old, was the 65th overall pick last summer and is playing in High-A.

The switch-hitter has a .322 average and .386 OBP over 103 games the past couple seasons. He flashes some power and plenty of speed.

Should Carrigg continue to excel, I’d expect him to move up the minor leagues fairly quickly. Being able to play multiple spots could help him get to the big league quicker, but it probably won’t be until some point late in the 2025 season, if not the 2026 campaign.

Drew Romo is the team’s No. 9 prospect and a 22-year-old catcher playing in Triple-A. He was taken 35th overall by the team in 2020 and also is a switch-hitter.

He’s a career .280 hitter with a .329 OBP in the minor leagues and has a .305 average and .337 OBP across 65 AAA games this season. He’s known best for his defense, but as his numbers suggest, can handle his own at the plate.

Romo should make his MLB debut at some point this season. The Rockies could make room for Romo by trading regular starter Elias Diaz at the deadline, so Romo is definitely a name to monitor over the next couple weeks.

Benny Montgomery is another outfielder currently at the Double-A level. He was drafted eighth overall in the 2021 MLB Draft.

Montgomery has only played 11 games this season, and hasn’t been on the field since April 20. He could be back late in the season, but his progress to the MLB has certainly been slowed.

He’s a career .277 hitter with a .354 OBP across four minor league seasons and had an outside chance to make the big leagues at the end of this season. Montgomery is a big-time stolen base threat and offers a little pop.

Now a late 2025 MLB debut or even sometime in 2026 is the most likely ETA for Mongtomery. He’s still one to keep tabs on, but not if you are looking to compete immediately.
