A new week of fantasy baseball is upon us, so it’s time to go over some waiver wire options.

These players are all taken off the Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Pickups page. We’ll skip over the starting pitchers, because FantasySP’s Daniel Hepner covers SPs in daily streaming stories.

Spencer Horwitz Fantasy Outlook

Horwitz has tallied six hits over his past two games, so it’s no surprise to see him as a waiver wire target. He’s rostered in 22% of fantasy leagues right now.

Among the six hits, four were extra-base hits (three home runs and one double). He drove in five runs and scored four times over those contests.

He’s been playing pretty regularly, and has collected 13 hits over his past eight games (six starts). Horwitz had two doubles and four home runs among those knocks, along with eight RBIs, seven runs scored, two walks and four strikeouts.

Horwitz is a little more valuable in fantasy leagues because he should have eligibility at first and second base, but on a weak offense, he’s not a great fantasy option. He’s worth a look in standard leagues, but I’d imagine there’s better players out there on the waiver wire.

Horwitz should be added in deeper leagues, and can probably be inserted into the starting lineup for a little while at least. He’s hitting well enough to start in those deeper leagues, so scoop him up if you can.

Connor Norby Fantasy Outlook

Norby was part of the story on the weekend’s top performers. He’s jumped to 56% rostered now.

He’s been great since being traded to the Marlins and called up on August 19. In 18 starts since, he’s got a .329 average and .372 on-base percentage. Norby also has seven doubles and six home runs among his 24 total hits, along with 13 RBIs, 18 runs scored, five walks, two stolen bases and 23 strikeouts.

He’s still striking out too much, but he’s making up for it with a great average and OBP, and also is adding in plenty of other numbers on a pretty regular basis.

Norby is on a weak Marlins’ offense, but he needs to be heavily considered in standard leagues now. His hot streak might not last the rest of the season, but I’m sold on Norby and would want him on my team for the near future at least.

He should already be rostered and starting in all deep leagues and dynasties.

Jonny DeLuca Fantasy Outlook

DeLuca has eight hits over his past four games, so his own percentage is on the rise. He’s still owned in just 8% of leagues though.

Looking back on DeLuca’s game logs, he really started heating up back in late July. In 37 games (33 starts) since, DeLuca has a .271 average and .324 OBP. He has six homers, three triples and three homers among his 35 total hits in that span, along with 11 RBIs, 17 runs scored, nine walks, 23 strikeouts and nine stolen bases.

That’s a good sample size of games to look back on. While he’s playing and has a good average and OBP, his run production is lacking too much to really make him a big-time fantasy asset. However, he’s playing enough now and has good enough numbers to definitely add, or at least consider him, in deeper leagues. At least give him an add for a short span.

Andres Gimenez Fantasy Outlook

Gimenez wasn’t a big-time fantasy asset for drafts this spring, but he’s definitely still disappointed. He’s heating up at the plate and is now rostered in 76% of leagues.

Dating back to August 21, Gimenez has 19 hits over 18 games, including two doubles and three home runs. He’s got seven RBIs, 10 runs scored, two walks, 15 strikeouts and five stolen bases in that span.

There’s some solid numbers in there, but at the same time, he’s still not hitting for much power, or doing much in the run production department. He’s a good option in standard leagues, but only if you need a second baseman or extra infielder. I prefer Gimenez starting in deeper leagues only.

Lane Thomas Fantasy Outlook

Thomas is another Cleveland player who is trending upward of late. He’s at 52% rostered now.

He’s got a hit in four straight games, with one double and a homer in that span. He’s drove in two runs, scored once, failed to walk and struck out seven times.

Thomas is another player who has disappointed this season, and despite a hit in a couple games in a row, is still not a great waiver wire option in standard leagues because of all the strikeouts.

I get wanting to take a chance on him because he’s had success in the past, but at a loaded fantasy position (outfield), there’s got to be better options out there in standard leagues. He’s a deep league option, but again, the strikeouts probably aren’t the best for your fantasy team right now, so I also wouldn’t want him in my lineup all the time.

Lucas Erceg Fantasy Outlook

Erceg is back on the waiver wire list after earning two more saves over the weekend. He’s at 38% rostered now.

After a rough stretch in which he allowed seven runs across three outings, Erceg has allowed just one hit in three games since. He’s picked up saves in those three contests, while also recording a strikeout in each game.

Kansas City is going to continue to win games down the stretch, and with a lot of their wins being tight games, that makes Erceg a good fantasy option. He looks to be past his rough stretch and back looking like a dominant closer again, so I’d be confident in adding Erceg for the stretch run in any league type.

Seth Brown Fantasy Outlook

Brown has been hitting well over the past couple weeks, and his own percentage is on the rise as a result. He’s up to 28% rostered now.

Since August 23, Brown has 21 hits in 16 games (14 starts). He has four homers, a double and a triple in that span, along with 15 RBIs, seven runs scored, five walks and 13 strikeouts.

Brown should have position eligibility at first base and in the outfield, so that makes him a touch more valuable in fantasy leagues too.

He’s done some good things at the plate of late, but he’s still lacking in several stats, which keeps him below consideration in standard leagues. A power surge would make him a standard league candidate though.

Right now though, I like the idea of adding and playing Brown in deeper leagues. That position versatility will be nice down the stretch as you try to squeeze every possible fantasy point out of each player you roster. Pick up Brown if you need some help at first base, or in the outfield.

Eugenio Suarez Fantasy Outlook

The last guy I want to write about today is Suarez, who is red hot at the plate again. He’s up to 79% rostered.

Since September hit, Suarez has 14 hits across eight starts. He’s homered five times and doubled twice this month, along with tallying seven RBIs, 14 runs, four walks and seven strikeouts.

When Suarez is hot at the plate, he can be one of the better fantasy hitters in the MLB. He’s on a great run right now, and deserves a ton of consideration in standard leagues. I’d do my best to add him, whether or not I had a roster spot available.
