Matthew Boyd progressing through knee rehab, remains sidelined for the week ahead

Matthew Boyd remains completely sidelined with no recent games played after undergoing left knee meniscus surgery in early May. His absence hurts a fourth-place Chicago Cubs team (34-34) currently on a three-game losing streak and managing multiple rotation injuries. He is currently off the active depth chart as he targets a mid-summer return.

Before his injury, Boyd struggled over five starts this season, posting a ballooned 6.37 ERA and 1.37 WHIP, a stark contrast to his stellar 2025 campaign where he logged a 3.22 ERA and 14 wins. However, our rest-of-season models project a bounce-back to a solid 3.82 ERA and 1.19 WHIP once he returns. His elite 12.35 K/9 before going down suggests his swing-and-miss stuff remains fully intact.

With the Cubs currently on a road trip facing Colorado and San Francisco, Boyd will provide zero fantasy production this week. Managers in competitive leagues should continue to hold him in an IL slot, but he is an obvious sit for the week ahead.
