October 28 Fantasy Basketball Waivers: Brandin Podziemski, Jordan Hawkins, Caleb Martin and More
NBA players who had good games on Sunday and are widely available in fantasy leagues.
Five NBA games took place on Sunday, October 27. Each provided valuable insight for fantasy basketball owners.
Let's hop straight into the top performances that caught my eye from waiver wire players.
Waiver Wire Options
Philadelphia 76ers forward Caleb Martin started the night with a very impressive 17-point and 12-rebound double-double against the Indiana Pacers. Martin is owned in 27% of leagues, but this number should see a steady increase.
With star forward Paul George expected to miss at least the next two games, the Sixers will continue to call on Martin for his versatility on both ends. He has averaged well over 30 minutes in every game this season, so he should be considered a very valuable asset moving forward.
New Orleans Pelicans guard Jordan Hawkins is another player who has benefitted from unfortunate injuries, but has shined when called upon. Hawkins posted his third straight double-digit game on Sunday and saw his minutes increase once again.
Hawkins is owned in 54% of leagues right now; that number could fluctuate. He brings a wrinkle of movement shooting no other player on the Pelicans can replicate, so I expect his minutes to steadily hit over 25 per game. His exceptional fit next to Zion Williamson is also a positive sign; fantasy owners should monitor Hawkins very closely from now on.
Brooklyn Nets forward Noah Clowney is owned in 10% of leagues, which is relatively low in comparison to my opinion of him. Clowney saw his minutes increase for the third game in a row, as well as his first double-digit game.
The reason why I think Clowney is going to start producing very well is because he is one of the few positive spacers on this Nets team. His size and shooting ability should earn him minutes over other younger guys on the team during this season.
Portland Trailblazers forward Toumani Camara is a solid waiver option for deeper leagues. His two-way potential has obviously impressed the Blazers brass enough to start him and play him big minutes in each of their three games so far.
Camara is only owned in 18% of leagues, but he has shown a consistent ability to get near double-doubles thus far this season. He could be a sneaky good move for most owners. He’s currently shooting 55% from three and 45% from the field, so as long as he stays efficient, he is a great option.
Los Angeles Clippers guard Kris Dunn has started the season on fire on both ends; his two-way ability has earned him at least 20 minutes in every game this year. He is averaging seven points, six rebounds, and an absurd two steals a game.
He is only owned in 7% of leagues, which is less than Terance Mann and Kevin Porter Jr., two guys Dunn has finished the game over. As his minutes continue to rise, so should his production, he will be a good contributor to your fantasy team.
Warriors guard Brandin Podziemski has struggled so far the regular season, so you might ask why I have included him in this. Well, he’s going to be the Warriors new lead ballhandler. Stephen Curry was ruled out at least until Friday, so that means Podziemski will get more on-ball reps, which could help him find his rhythm.
Brandin is owned in 66% of leagues right now, but if he starts to bounce back after this week, that number will see an increase. Steve Kerr had heaped his trust in Podziemski many times before, so I believe he will get a big increase in minutes and opportunities.
Los Angeles Clippers forward Derrick Jones Jr. has proved to be a main catalyst to the Clippers early success. He has been a force in transition, getting easy baskets from James Harden. He has averaged 13 points and 3 assists on 66% shooting so far this season.
He’s averaging 30 minutes per game, but still is only owned in 21% of leagues so far. Jones has shown a reliable stroke from downtown, so he can be a good option for any owners who want a consistent starter.
Oklahoma City Thunder forward Aaron Wiggins is off to a hot start this season. Though he’s averaging under 20 minutes per game, he produces in the time he’s called upon. Wiggins has averaged 10 points and three rebounds on 70% shooting in just 17 minutes per game.
Wiggins is scoring at an unsustainable rate right now, but he has always been an extremely efficient player throughout his career. Wiggins is only owned in 12% of leagues right now, so he is a very attainable player for any owner.
