It’s been a little bit since I put together a fantasy basketball drop article.

The NBA Cup kind of screwed up the fantasy season, but we’re back in week 10 of the season to talk about several drop candidates. Let’s get right into it!

Brandon Boston Jr. Fantasy Outlook

Boston has been having a fine season, but has seen a decrease in playing time, and fantasy owners are following suit by dropping him. He’s now owned in 30% of fantasy leagues after a recent 7.1% drop.

Boston is averaging 11.8 points, 3 assists, 3.4 rebounds, 1.4 steals and 0.3 blocks across 26 minutes a game. He has 40 turnovers across 703 total minutes played.

Boston has only played 17 and 15 minutes over the past two games, so it makes sense why fantasy owners are bailing on him. He was a pretty solid deep-league option with his averages, but if he’s playing and producing less, then he shouldn’t be owned in nearly as many fantasy leagues.

He’s a player to keep tabs on in case his role increases again later in the season. For now though, Boston should only be rostered by those of you in the deepest fantasy leagues.

Obi Toppin Fantasy Outlook

Toppin has been dropped in 5.5% of leagues, bringing his overall mark down to 51%. His minutes haven’t taken that big of a dip, but his production on the court has, and I’d guess that’s the reason behind him being dropped.

On the season, Toppin is averaging 10.7 points, 1.8 assists, 4.1 rebounds, 0.8 steals and 0.4 blocks across 19.9 minutes. He has 19 turnovers across 577 total minutes.

He saw a nine-game streak of scoring in double figures snapped earlier this week, and his game before that was a similar fantasy output. I get why fantasy owners are dropping him.

Toppin is still a pretty good deep-league fantasy option, but it might take a little time for his own percentage to reflect that. He’ll likely have hot stretches of play later in the season, at which point he isn’t a bad standard league option in a pinch.

Keep Toppin on your watch list, but I agree that some deep-league owners should be moving on from him right now.

Jonathan Mogbo Fantasy Outlook

Mogbo has a 12% own mark after a recent 5.4% decrease. His drop trend is also because of playing time.

Mogbo is averaging 5.6 points, 1.8 assists, 4.6 rebounds, 0.8 steals and 0.4 blocks across 17.4 minutes a game. He has 27 turnovers across 522 minutes played.

He really has pretty similar numbers to Toppin, minus the points of course. It’s kind of cool to see what a few extra points can do to a fantasy player’s own percentage.

Anyway, after several games with 20 or more minutes, Mogbo played just 16 minutes on December 16. He got back up to 22 minutes on December 23, but it was another sub-20 point fantasy outing (his third in five games) and those things mean that fantasy owners are going to move on.

He’s another player to keep tabs on throughout the season, as his role could change quickly, and he might be worth adding in many deeper leagues for several games at a time.

Dru Smith Fantasy Outlook

Smith tore his Achilles, and that injury will end his season. He should be dropped in all redraft leagues.

He was averaging 6.3 points, 1.6 assists, 2.6 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 0.4 blocks across 18.7 minutes. His absence will open more playing time at the point guard and shooting guard spots, which works in the favor of Terry Rozier, Tyler Herro, Duncan Robinson, Alec Burks, Josh Richardson, Pelle Larsson and maybe others.

Moritz Wagner Fantasy Outlook

Wagner tore his ACL a couple days ago, so his season is also over. He can be dropped in all redraft leagues.

He was averaging 12.9 points, 1.4 assists, 4.9 rebounds, 0.8 steals and 0.4 blocks across 18.4 minutes per contest. Wagner is just the latest injury for the Magic, who are also playing without Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner.

Until Franz Wagner and Bancheco return, Tristan Da Silva, Goga Bitadze, Jonathan Isaac, Wendell Carter Jr. and others will fill in for Mortiz Wagner.

Dillon Brooks Fantasy Outlook

Brooks is dealing with a sore ankle right now, and that explains his recent drop trend. He’s rostered in 55% of leagues after a 4.6% dip.

He is averaging 13.3 points, 1.6 assists, 4 rebounds, 0.7 steals and 0.3 blocks across 30.7 minutes a game. Brooks has 30 turnovers across 830 minutes played.

His averages make him a good deep-league option, and a standard league streamer when he’s going right. Fantasy owners who need the roster spot should absolutely look to another option.

If those fantasy owners are in a deeper league though, I’d do my best to hang on to Brooks. You aren’t going to find too many players on the court for that many minutes a night, and although his averages aren’t great, he puts up a respectable amount of fantasy points every night.

He can be dropped in standard leagues, but should be kept in most deeper leagues.
