Week 16 Fantasy Football Running Back & Wide Receiver Waiver Wire Pickups: Tyler Allgeier Is Beasting It Up!

Will Desvallees Dec 19th 4:46 PM EST.

There are always more free-agent options at running back and wide receiver than there are at quarterback and tight end even with just three weeks remaining in the 2022 NFL season. Tyler Allgeier continues to stand out as one of the best free-agent running backs while Marquise Goodwin is slated to see his role increase with Tyler Lockett getting ready to undergo season-ending hand surgery.

Let's dive in on the best waiver wire pickups availble at the running back and wide receiver position as we gear up for the semi-finals of the fantasy football season.

Week 16 Running Backs To Add

RB Tyler Allgeier, Atlanta Falcons (43.28% Owned)

Tyler Allgeier has had a fantastic season for the Falcons despite starting the season as a backup to Cordarrelle Patterson. Allgeier has amassed 743 rushing yards, 84 receiving yards, and three total touchdowns as a fifth-round rookie out of BYU. Allgeier had his best rushing performance as a rookie on Sunday against the Saints. He produced 139 rushing yards and one touchdown on 17 attempts. Allgeier has had at least 10 rushing attempts in each of the last three games, which poses well moving forward, especially with Desmond Ridder at quarterback. The Falcons will likely continue to lean on the rushing game until Ridder is more comfortable in the offense after struggling in his first outing. Allgeier has had at least 10 games this season with 10+ rushing attempts and should continue to see more touches moving forward. Allgeier could see his share of carries and rushing yards increase over the next few weeks. At the moment, the rookie running back is available in approximately 55% of fantasy football leagues.

RB Zack Moss, Indianapolis Colts (1.68% Owned)

Jonathan Taylor exited the Colts’ nail-bitting game on Saturday after just one touch. This allowed Zack Moss to get going. The former Buffalo Bills had 24 carries for 81 rushing yards. While he only produced 3.4 yards per carry in that game, the fact that he had so many rushing attempts on Saturday should encourage fantasy owners who are in desperate need of a running back. Moss is available in more than 98% of leagues at the moment. If JT remains out in Week 16, Moss could be considered a must-start at running back.

RB Gus Edwards, Baltimore Ravens (60.68% Owned)

Gus Edwards has rushed for 50+ yards in each of the last two games despite playing a backup role on the team to J.K. Dobbins who has returned to the active roster. Edwards had 13 carries for 66 yards (5.1 AVG) in Week 14 against the Steelers, and seven rushing attempts for 55 rushing yards (7.9 AVG) on Saturday against the Cleveland Browns. The 27-year-old RB in his fifth season out of Rutgers has produced at least 50+ rushing yards in five of the six games he's played in this season. Though he is a backup option, Edwards has been highly efficient for the Ravens. He is available from waivers in approximately 40% of leagues at the moment. If Dobbins goes down again with an injury, Edwards could be a fringe RB1 in fantasy based on volume alone.

Week 16 Wide Receivers To Add

WR Rashid Shaheed, New Orleans Saints (2.34% Owned)

Saints’ WR Rashid Shaheed has emerged as a deep-ball threat for New Orleans over the last few weeks. Shaheed has amassed at least 50+ yards in each of the last three games. He had four catches for 75 receiving yards against the Bucs on Dec. 5, and three catches for 95 yards and one touchdown against the Falcons this Sunday. Behind rookie Chris Olave, Shaheed has emerged as one of the Saints' top receivers, especially in recent weeks. He is also clearly their best deep threat and his speed can take the top off of opposing defenses. Heading into Week 16, Shaheed is virtually available in all but the deepest of fantasy leagues.

WR Marquise Goodwin, Seattle Seahawks (4.41% Owned)

Tyler Lockett is getting prepared to have surgery on his hand. This will end his 2022 NFL season and allow Marquise Goodwin to earn more targets over the last few weeks of the regular season. He had five catches for 95 receiving yards and one touchdown on Dec. 11 but had a quiet outing in Week 15. With Goodwin, it really comes down to Lockett’s absence for the remainder of the season. With him out of the picture, Goodwin could easily have big performances over the last few weeks of the regular season. Although Geno Smith is regressing, he can still throw the deep ball, which is where Goodwin excels. In 2022, the 32-year-old veteran has tallied 27 catches for 387 receiving yards and four touchdowns. Maybe he could get a few more hundred yards and a couple of tuds before the season comes to an end.

WR K.J. Osborn, Minnesota Vikings (5.07% Owned)

Vikings' wideout K.J. Osborn exploded for a career-high game on Sunday. He caught 10-of-16 passes from Kirk Cousins for 157 receiving yards and one touchdown, helping the Vikings defeat the Colts 39-36 in a historic comeback game which concluded in overtime. At 5'11'' and 203 lbs., Osborn isn't the biggest receiver in the league but he certainly knows how to be efficient. In Week 14 against the Lions, Osborn caught all five of the passes thrown his way for 38 yards and a touchdown. Osborn has emerged as a hot route-runner for Kirk Cousins late in the season. He's emerging late in the year providing the Vikings' offense with some relief downfield. His catch rate over the last two weeks has been impressive, and he's currently available as a free-agent receiver in approximately 95% of all fantasy football leagues.
